Super Mario General Discussion Thread.

Rewatch notes.

SPOILER WARNING:

There may also be Adhesive Manipulation (or just physics, because impaling one object on another) because there's a technique to stick chunks to other chunks, & we see a huge structure of big, horizontally attached chunks attached to each other's side, some just hanging over the air, attached by the side.
Rewatching, narrator specifies it as "If you throw chunks made of a softer material to a surface, you can pile them up".

It's said that one's wish will be granted by reaching the planet's core. Void Co. also seems intent on going there.

When Pauline is introduced, the Giant Elder tells DK & Odd Rock to "Combine your power... and show us what you've got!". DK beats his chest, which causes Odd Rock's Unsealing/undoing of the Transformation presumably induced by Void Co, as indicated by all the Void Co. tape on Odd Rock.

Direct narrator says "Some layers are so spectacular, it's hard to believe you're underground". Some sublayers also have clouds. Not impossible underground, but suggests their planet is HUGE.

When DK eats a Banandium Gem, we see 3 banana icons filling up. These seem to correspond to the Skill Point system.

DK's Roll Forward technique is described by the narrator with "Roll forward at high speeds & send lighter objects soaring"; If this enables an auto-KO system, it might be notable for scaling. So far, it's mostly seen launching planks/walkway boards. It is also suggested to combine it with punches & jumps to "really mix it up".

DK can "tear up turnips" to find items. Big orange vegetables are shown. "Turnips", seemingly.

DK can tear off chunks off of foes. An example is shown with DK tearing off a corner of the head of a big, blocky rocky enemy.

DK can do Chunk Jumps to double jump.

Boom Rocks are noted to have explosive effects when thrown. Might be useful for scaling if anything tanks them.

Turf Surf can knock away smaller enemies.

Make Music features DK & Pauline closing their eyes & whistling. Direct Narrator says "it'll help show you the way", & that "it'll also help remove these strange seals that... someone left behind". Void Co. tape over an object is shown glowing, then disappearing, then DK punches the object as Pauline says "You can do it, DK!". The object soon breaks, & then more Void Co. purple (More sealing?) over a large structure they're atop of shatters off of it, presumably having been affected by the Void Co. object.
This also suggests that Void Co. seals make the items more durable, as DK can't break them without first unsealing them.

One enemy, when punched (defeated?), creates a prismatic rainbow bridge. A severed chunk of it releases steam, causing DK to happily ascend as the chunk depletes itself to cause this.

A Fractone NPC is shown to have musical notes in their speech, & can regenerate & shapeshift. (There was also one broken & used earlier for a chunk.).

Narrator says about Kong Bananza "With incredible destructive power, even hard terrain poses no problem!" & "Plow through the world & smash as much as possible!".

Zebra form is supposed to be fast(er), as it crosses water & crumbling terrain, & Ostrich can fly & has Egg Bombs.

"Standing in our heroes' way is The Void Company."
Void Co is called "the mightiest mining operation, both above ground and below". Scaling point, or just statement about how successful Void Co. is as a company?

Void Kong says "You shouldn't have run away, Pauline! Come back to me! Right now!". Maybe Pauline's powers of music or such are valuable to them??
Void Kong also readily interrupts Poppy Kong in explaining their destination. Very selfish sort.
Void Co is also confirmed to be responsible for the banana-stealing maelstrom on Ingot Isle.
Pauline responds to this with "The Planet Core?! But... but... No! I'm going... I'm going with DK! So you just stay away!"

One boss seems to be a rolling orb covered in bits of material, which leaves magma as it rolls. Might be notable for resistance, though DK is shown in a Bananza form with a Bananergy Meter visible for that.

When Peekabruiser is defeated, it briefly turns liquid, before becoming a bunch-like Banandium Gem. (I forget if there's a specific term for that.)

Skill Points can also boost health, how many hits to break certain toughness-levelled terrain, or raise Hand Slap range by 50%. More skills beyond the few examples shown in the video seem to exist.

At the Stuff Shop, Gold can buy balloons, which lets DK return from falls with no damage.

Apple Juice "Pressed from Giant Apples. Automatically restores all health if it reaches zero. Consumes one can per restoration."

A can of Melon Juice can also substitute for a full Bananergy Meter to enable one of DK's Bananza Transformations.

Fossils seem to be a per-layer currency, & are traded for wearables. The Styletone shopkeeper calls them "New and fashionable attire".
Effects include moving faster through Mud or Snow, gaining more Bananergy from Gold, & having more time in Kong Bananza.

Some seem to have descriptions rather than effects.

More effects: Treasure chests more likely to appear as DK destroys terrain, increased swimming speed, more Bananza Time, extended Sonar Range during a Bananza(???).

DK's regular fur is named as "All-Natural Fur". (Surely there was no doubt before, right?)

DK with the option called "Naked" still has the tie & is described with "...as the day you were born. And that's nothing to be ashamed of.". Does this mean DK had the tie when he was born?

DK with a grayish-whitish fur pattern & some kind of yellow-with-spots outfit seems to do ice skating.

In 2-player mode, Pauline's vocal blasts project stone forms of what she says. Materials of nearby terrain can be copied for this.

A big, boss-like enemy's material seems to be indicated as "concrete".

Scanning certain DK series Amiibo spawns Gold KONG letter Tiles with "explosive power" into the world.

Every other Amiibo is also compatible; Scanning them yields a giant sphere. Some are Boom Rock, another is a blue material like that of a Fractone, which displaces water when it impacts & bursts. Water? Ice? Some kind of weird crystal???

Poppy Kong seems to have some kind of translucent form like water/ice.

When Diddy Kong & Dixie Kong cameo, both them & DK are riding atop a Rambi, & there is a timer on screen. Is there some kind of time shenanigans going on in a Challenge Ruins or something? (Also, multiple Rambi?) A wall in the background also says Double Trouble. Rambi also breaks a gold-like structure in this area. Also, a prismatic-banner-like thing is being carried.

Void Kong says "I'll reach the core first, and the Banandium Root will be MINE!". The background behind him resembles stars, but this could just be cave background or something. IDK. He then shoots a beam straight up to above himself.

Pauline has a line "My own special power?". Seems to be in a cutscene. I'd suspect it's a thing about gaining self-confidence.

The final scene where DK & Pauline are falling seems to be above a creature similar to an Eelevator.

LAYERS? Can't believe Nintendo is finally using dimensional tiering in their lore
Hah. Who knows? Maybe the sublayers are in some kind of pocket dimension system or something?
There's already striking-activated portals amongst the ruins. Maybe there's something like that going on there?
Though, the layers seem to be connected by unsealing & then destroying Void Co. stuff to open sink holes.

But doesn't Yoshi's Island DS show that Donkey Kong was born around the same time as Mario? If that's the case, then DK and Pauline should be the same age.

Actually now that I think about it: Pauline was the damsel of distress in the original Donkey Kong, and the original Donkey Kong is Cranky Kong. Unless Bananza is going to drop the biggest twist of the century and reveal that this game's set in some sort of brand new continuity.

Wait, if DK and Mario are the same age then how does that work with the whole Cranky = original DK stuff? I forget what the lore is now and whether DK is Cranky’s son or grandson (I think the Mario movie had it be the former), but current DK is either DK Jr. or DK Jr.’s son which causes some really awkward timeline stuff. Maybe there’s a way to make it work if DK is Cranky’s son (like maybe Kongs just have weird aging or something), but if he’s DK Jr.’s son then the timeline completely breaks. I guess also they could make it so Jumpman and Lady aren’t Mario and Pauline.

Idk why I’m expecting a competent timeline from a series like Mario, but meh

I wouldn't think about the consistency of ages too much, Donkey Kong is both the same age as Mario yet his dad, DK Jr, was pretty clearly a child in his own arcade game while Mario was a grown man.

Just do what I do and blame any timeline inconsistencies on Bowser and his random ability to just travel through time whenever he feels like it, obviously not true but it is funny.

The game’s set in the main Mario “Earth”, right? I already don’t remember everything in the trailer, but I remember some vortex that gave me Kirby and the Forgotten Land vibes so idr if it’s under “Earth” or some alternate dimension or something.

Unless they say otherwise yeah it's the main Mario earth, but personally I wouldn't say the planet potentially being bigger in this game specifically means anything. The moon changes size every time you blink, so wouldn't put it past them to potentially (and 100% accidently) make the planet bigger just for this game.
Nah man

Absolutely using it for new calcs and no one is gonna stop me.

The planet has the one piece effect anyways and should've already been considered way bigger anyways given there's wayyyy too many large landmasses we know of.

Oh boy, this scene is weird to see now

How about a legitimate calculation for the planet, then? Is that something you would be capable of doing and posting for this site?

I'd imagine this would affect a few calculations if the Earth is so large there's a sub-layer with clouds in it.

Separate Note: Do you know of any currently-uncalced feats that land in Tier 5? After getting him to High 6-A, I'd like to finish up my personal mission for the verse and get Tier 5 (which helps that there's already a 5-C feat not in use).

I don't think you can even use there being a lot of large landmasses as a way to say the planet is bigger than average, the planets geography also randomly changes depending on games. The view of the planet and the continents on it / the way they're arranged in Mario Party 2 is different to Odyessy which is different DK Jungle Beat. Hell sometimes landmasses just randomly change size and shape (See the Mushroom Kingdom itself).

Don't doubt you can get whacky sizes for the planet in Bananza, uneasy on saying it'd apply to the entire franchise.

Haven't watched the trailer, but I feel like the multiple huge layers (and clouds underground) aren't really a confirmation of the planet's size. This is Mario Bros we're talking about, this stuff isn't really supposed to make sense.

Technically it's not that it isn't supposed that would imply they are intentionally making it confusing. It's more so that they don't care about it making sense.

I just noticed but all the characters in just their base forms have Class Y lifting strength. Isn't that, like, a comically big outlier?

Yeh... consistency has always been all over the place. IIRC in Mario Odyssey you can take damage from big falls during gameplay, but they first cutscene shows Mario being knocked off Bowser's airship in the sky and being fine. Mario 64 Mario struggles pushing large objects, but can swing around and throw Bowser dozens of meters away during their fights.

In the same game they can't shatter big boulders. It feels like Mario and Luigi's power vary like Looney Toons characters
Not exactly. Outliers are mostly classified depending on the jumps or drops in power, consistency, and justification of them. The Mario Bros were previously listed at 6-C attack potency with Class P lifting strength, and the real reason I believe we couldn't put them back into the previous 3-C ratings was because the jump in power was too big and there weren't enough 4-A or tier 3 feats to support the ratings. But seeing as how more calculations beyond 6-C yet well within tier 6 were made after the downgrade in 2023 that doesn't seem to be the case any longer.

It is still the case. A higher rating being approved doesn't mean the burden of proof for even higher ones is lessened.

Don't get too excited my dudes, people won't take this seriously like they do Sonic characters. They'll give it the "hyperbole" Kirby treatment 💀
Yeah, knowing how this wiki works, I don’t have my hopes up.
Notice how no other scrub Mario character is stated to have infinite strength like the GOAT DK? Top 1 in the verse
Rosalina’s up there too, considering what Cris Crosspoints had to say about her.

The biggest issue is the amount of anti-feats and Tier 6 is the one with the most consistent amount of feats for a high end, correct?
Oh that explains why Armorchompy is against the Reclusa CRT
No like why would someone go out of their way to make one for Mario, then claim the biggest victories in the franchise are outliers, and THEN segway into the
Mario/Paper Mario split?

Kirby has a primary comprehensive list for both of relatively equal length (both feats and anti-feats)

Mario has a HUGE list of anti-feats, but no primary comprehensive list of feats.

Sonic doesn't seem to have a primary comprehensive list of feats, but it has absolutely NO list of anti feats whatsoever.
