Darkstalkers Discussion Thread: Embrace the Dark

I’ve got a question. How come when it comes down to Darkstalkers reps in crossover fighting games, Morrigan ends up overshadowing EVERYONE ELSE? I get that she’s the face of the franchise, but Capcom’s got 17 other Darkstalkers characters to use - and when Capcom does use them while throwing Morrigan in there, like I said - Morrigan ends up overshadowing them.

TL;DR, who’d like to see a Capcom crossover fighting game WITHOUT Morrigan in it?

Thinking to get into darkstalkers
Is therr anything else to check for the lore besides graphic files and endings?

Btw why sol is used for small pyron? From what i can tell big pyron traveled that fast

It was used as a lowball of his casual speed, since it's the one he uses to cruise the universe, and big Pyron would be MFTL++++.... by sheer size.

Ohh. I assume him cruising the universe at that size comes from the fact he uses the fact he destroyed the stars for his small size power or Something else

Nah, it's a notion from thr Graphic Files.
I need to re-handle the crushing stars thing, because it's a unique take of the US translations of the games, while the japanese version has more poetry-like dialogues.

It's technically official material, not even a mistranslation, so I have no clear idea whether to use it or not, back in the day I was up for it, but now I'm not totally sure.

Just gonna bump this real quick.

So. Not sure if was known already (probably to some it was), and I had yet to bring this up until now. But Darkstalkers Resurrection actually includes a black box on the main menu has a section for “fun facts”, even bringing up the stuff we have for the Passive Madness Manip and Corruption (which is described as a poison) I think we could use these for information on the pages (the imgur link I sent isn’t all of them by the way)

Would be neat to get a hold of more of these

Oh yeah, reminds me. I was gonna save it for a revision but I’m not sure when I’ll get to that. There was also the stuff about Morrigan’s power being uncontrollable and it being able to destroy her and Makai, it says “could” though so take that as you will. (I think personally it could lead to full power Morrigan being Universal, but she gets her power split into 1/3 of that, so she wouldn’t be Universal, but probably gets close. That’s my take on that statement.) Of course there’s the stuff we already know about regarding that too.

But yeah, there is definitely more outside of what I posted, although most of it (from what I’ve seen) doesn’t matter for scaling, it’s really neat regardless. Maybe at some point I’ll have a full collection, but the facts are randomized, making it sort of a pain.

Isnt Makai like 4-A sized? As far as we know it wpuld support her 3-C rating too

I thought it was the Majigen that was 4-A sized, not Makai? I got the impression that Makai was parallel to the human universe, or at least it’s compared to it. Also the Shintai is 3-A so idk

Also pretty sure 3-C doesn’t work anymore, orbital paths don’t equate to AP from what I remember.

Pretty sure Darkstalkers is 3-C from the fact he is galaxy sized normally
I’m unsure. We know the orbital path is 400,000 light years, we just don’t know if his size also scales to that. Then again this is the same character who can just manipulate his size whenever so he might.

So, I've never played a Darkstalkers game in my life but I've read the lore in the translated plot guide and the Graphic Files and my god it's so cool.

But I have some scaling-wise questions:

1- Why does the size of Pyron's true form scale to his AP? Pyron is shapeless and purely made of energy so I don't know why GBE is used.
2- The Graphic Files says Pyron traveled at lishtspeed and he is given that speed in his profile for that, but is there any proof that his travel speed = combat/reaction speed? On the wiki you can't scale travel speed to combat/reaction speed without evidences iirc

His size is stated to be twice the milky way (he is 400K, the galaxy is 200K) and mantains himself at such a gigantic mass

He searches for planets casually at light speed when galaxy sized, if he was slower with his reactions he would clash with other celestial objects, also Jon Talbain says he aims to reach light speed in the future when he will improve

Yes but my question is that Pyron is made only of energy so does he really have mass?

He searches for planets casually at light speed when galaxy sized, if he was slower with his reactions he would clash with other celestial objects
It takes light eight minutes to just cover the distance from Earth to the Sun. I'm pretty sure Pyron could see any celestial objects several million kilometers away before reaching it. Also he is incorporeal.

also Jon Talbain says he aims to reach light speed in the future when he will improve
Actually in the Japanese text he says that he will surpass the light itself when he is stronger, but does that really scale with the other characters anyway? He is speaking in the future tense

You know that in order to keep energy in place you gotta be able to stabilize all that? Imagine trying to keep all clouds on Earth gathered in one place without scatterring, that requires energy to do so, a being keeping himself to galactic sizes would need a lot of energy to do so

it doesnt take away he still searches at that speed for planets suiting him, which would still need him to look them up regardless

If at his peak he casually travels at light speed, why would lower classes that wanna aim for that range not scale at all, Pyron already has it for consistency

I guess it’s fine, but why does the S Class upscale to his true form anyway? Morrigan's profile says she is superior to TF Pyron but without justification.

Or maybe he just temporarily stops moving to look at the planets instead of doing it while flying? The guides aren't specific about this.

We don't know what class Jon will be when he reaches FTL, so this is all hypothetical.

Demitri beaten him and absorbed his power which makes him 3-C, Morrigan is above everyone more or less, even Demitri till he evened the power levels due to Pyron being his boost

Intergalactic travel would require you to have reactions for this, thats casual speed for him anyway

It doesnt matter, if a B class tries to aim for sol, while an A class defeats someone that casually moves at that speed, it makes sense in terms of consistency

Lowkey, I don’t agree with Pyron being galaxy sized, because the text doesn’t really say that. Yeah his orbital path is, we just don’t know if he can scale to that himself (it’s possible but not clear). That and the Complete Works have his weight and height as “???” which isn’t exactly a debunk but we just don’t know his true size, he could be truly universe sized for all we know. At best it says that “Pyron is the fiery manifestation of a galactic entity” but even that’s vague.

Not really as I already explained, or like the VSBW Speed page explain:

"The typical example of such cases of travel/flight speed that doesn't necessarily scale to reactions is space travel. As space is incredibly empty there are virtually no objects one has to navigate around between destinations. Just flying in a straight line from A to B would be safe. At the same time the typical destinations, such as stars and planets, are so large that they can easily be seen from millions of kilometers away. As a result a character would only need reactions equal to a miniscule fraction of their travel speed to perform a safe and precise landing on them."

thats casual speed for him anyway
Where it is said ?

Where it is said ?
I don’t think it’s directly said, but I believe it comes from the graphic files, because Pyron was just sorta travelling at that speed, searching for planets that peaked his interest, thus that’s why it’s considered casual (also he was doing this for 200,000,000 years at least)

If you have time I think you should do a CRT on this.

That's because he can manipulate his size.
Not saying that proves he is galaxy sized or can grow up to be that big, just pointing out his nature.

1) Me and other users have been discussing this matter in private for awhile, especially because it's Pyron's gravitation field which reaches that size and not his "being" itself. And since gravity's wonky, it's been difficult to properly translate range into attack potency. We tried to figure out other ways to calc his ap, but we need calc experts able to perform them.
2) It's the remnant of an old revision and at the time I didn't really know what to give him in terms of reactions, considering there weren't much info on it. I suppose nowadays we could just upscale him from weaker characters.

Exactly, I'd have a few proposals for alternate tiers, but I need people to make calcs.

Even without Pyron scaling, there is still a few things. More definitively the stuff with Ozom’s soul being used to create the Majigen. While we don’t know it’s true size, we know the dimension has a Starry Sky in it because of the background of the stages in Vampire Savior (areas that were pulled into the Majigen given that’s where it’s all taking place from what I understand) thus 4-A, which isn’t a crazy downgrade I think (I do have another tier in mind but I’m not too sure if I want to use it)

Which tier?
I was thinking of around 3-B at best because of the Morrigan destroying herself and Makai stuff I mentioned on this page, although the text says “could destroy”, probably because it didn’t end up happening (it would not be 3-A because those statements are in reference to Morrigan’s full power that she couldn’t control, and she had her soul split into three so she’s 1/3 of that power) but I know not everyone agrees with that.

These are blatant statements, why do people will disagree with that?
