(yay another FTL thread)

So, the PC-98 games of the Touhou series takes place in space from time to time, with star and stuff in the back ground. Given that very few people seems to care about these old games, I figured I could go and calcs how fast these girls are. Also, just a few notes before starting, all these calcs kinda forget the fact that the stars are actually far far away (cuz I can't calulculate that), so the real numbers are higher. Also, I'm basing them on the average distance between two stars, which is 6.5 light years.

Anyway, first off, in Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream, all of the game's stage have a random-colored background, with what looks like many stars in the back ground. It takes approx. 1 seconds for the scrolling screen to get an unmoving character over 5 of these stars. Considering it would takes 6.5 years for light to do so over one star, which equal to 205 millions seconds. With 5 stars, it would take 1 025 600 095. And the Touhou girls can do so in 1 seconds (even with the distance), so they are 1 025 600 095 times faster than light, MFTL+. This goes for all the playable character of said game (well their non-canon counterpart anyway).

Now, Lotus Story Land. This one may be less believable, because these are stars from the dream world, but let's do it anyway. It takes 1 second for the screen to go over 1 star, approx. Again, it takes light 205 120 019 seconds to do so, it takes 1 second for a character to do it. Thus, 205 120 019 times light for Gegentsu and Mugetsu, MFTL+

Finally, Mystic Square. That one square. Here, when the characters goes from Gensokyo to Makai, a few share of stars appear in the background. But there is a catch here, as their seems to be two kind of stars here, one of them moving at high speed since the starts of the stage, and the slowers ones forming constellations later one. We don't know if the first ones are really stars, but I will callcuate it as an high end still. For the low end, it takes the screen 10 seconds to go from a star to the next. Again, it takes light 205 120 019 seconds to do so. It takes 10 for a touhou characters to do so. So, about 20 512 001 time faster than light. Still MFTL+. Then, for these super-fast maybe-or-maybe-not stars, approx. 10 of them can passes in a second. Again, 10 times 205 120 019, which is 2 051 200 190 times the speed of light, MFTL+. Bruh. The feat was done by Reimu, Marisa, Mima and Yuuka and should scale to everyone in MS that isn't Sara (this include Shinki).

Again, the numbers are possibly higher, and it's doubtable if any of those are real stars (except the one in MS, but the details of the flight through the border are unclear). I think it shoud be worth adding as possibly MFTL+ for these characters, or the non-canon version of said character.

Well, you said it yourself the usual answer for this things is: "That could also just be random blobs of light in the background"

So I am not sure if that even is secure enough to add it to the profiles...

Well, the ones in Mystic Squares are certainly stars. And while it's less sure in the two previous games, given that it happened like 3 time in 5 games, I say it should be at least be mentionned as possibly in PC Reimu, Marisa and Mima's profiles.

Hmm... Well, lets take a look if it makes sense story wise:

Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream is supposed to play in the "ruins" at least for some time. So it doesn´t really make sense for them to be in space, right?

For Lotus Land Story it isn´t really specified where things happen acept for a dream, which, as you pointed out, makes everything less believable.

Now Mystic sphere is the one where I see the possibility of it actually happening in space, but the fact that they are passing through a portal (or something similar) into another realm makes it uncertain.

But I am not all that familiar with the PC-98 games. You mentioned that Mystic Squares are certainly Stars. Does something make you conclude that except the visuals?

Actually, from what I gathers, most of the game takes places outside the ruins, as to decide who will get in. But when the fight does takes place inside, there is still stars. There is also a moon inside this damn ship http://en.touhouwiki.net/images/3/32/Th03ProbabilitySpaceHypervessel.png So to be honest I have no idea what is happning in there.

Well, it isn't really a dream, just a dream world. Also some hole in reality in the background.

In mystic Square, the name of said stage where stars and stuffs happens is named Border Space, and the place is refered as Magical Space. Not much but still something.

And frankly, considering they pretty much moves around, stops and even go to the other side of the galaxy (through teleporting probably) all during the trip, I don't see it being just going through a portal (they did go through one, but it was before the stage they are in)

Seems good to me. Although, tbh I think the border space things is more of a concern to Shinki's power than the characters' speed but whatev'. Also, I don't think I can edit Reimu's page to add it, so I would be adding Shinki and Marisa.
