I think you are using the idea of concept a little too literal in here. That no platonic concept, that's just concept in the sense of "the idea around which this was made".
Edison can't create new stuff, but he can see how something is made and what it was made of and optimize it to the best possible it could be. It's like a super version of Reinforcement that makes a thing do what it was made to do better (knife cuts better, food is more nutritious or tastes better, construction materials get sturdier) etc.
