Regen literally doesn't matter here. Ki blasts have been shown on many occasions to atomize, which mid-high doesn't protect you from. Intangibility I'd argue doesn't work either since Goku blocked Hit's attacks with Ki blasts, and a suppressed Jiren from many episodes blocked Hit's intangible attacks with his bare hands. Even if Vegeta can bypass regen, there's Destiny Bond. And it's pretty in character for the entire evolution line to do that. Just look at Black Fog, it blew itself up rather than be captured.
