I think is possibly to the the mongrel dog to catch Woddy and tear him up, due to the open countryside and few places to hide.

Not sure, though I doubt it. I mean he is comparable to characters that survive dog bites.

Debatable. I mean he can harm toys that are able to survive dog bites, long falls, are made of hard plastic, etc. I don't know how that scales to a dog though.
