An actual mechamorph is definitely better than a 10 year old with limited experience as one. They were also created by someone far smarter than Tony and are one of the smartest races in the universe which includes the likes Greymatter and Brainstorm

To be fair, none of those beings created said sentient machines, in purpose.

Ultron awakened as a I.A without Tony's realization, while the Mechamorphs were pure colateral damage.

It was part of the plan actually, he wanted to create a sentien A.I that could replace J.A.R.V.I.S.

He wanted an Ai that would learn how to protect the earth better. Sentient means they can think for themselves and that is just inviting trouble.
