I don't know what kind of handgun it is, but it's definitely not a modern pistol. The Slowest Bullet clocks in a 1700mph. That is Mach 2.3.

It was TVD. The season where Jermy becomes like a Hunter. It was either the season with Silas or before Silas.

If it's when Jeremy becomes a hunter, possibly even one of "the five", then that was like two whole seasons before Silas showed up. That was when they were messing around with Elena being a vampire, and when the Originals occasionally popped in for an episode or two.
