Alright yall so this thread will list the top 20 worst places to call home
Basicly:
No actual literal hells

No places that does "oh entering here will make you a target of 10298381929288 people" or "entering here will instantly give you stds or some shit"

It can be because people in that place are dickheads to each other

It can be because of the economy

It can be because of fights

Literally anything but passive shit

Alright go

Floor of Death - Tower of God:
originally was a normal floor with civilization, then got turned into praying grounds for cultists then a genocide/mass destruction that eliminated every mountain and island happened and an Australia-sized creature collapsed dead onto the floor, covering the cities in blood and stuff. Anyone who tried leave got hunted down and those who needed to survive there (as they lost their immortality) for the most part put their souls in a rather not secure place where they would remain forever until a dude stole them for 5 minutes. A bunch of petty political fights happened, a coup d'etat happened and a spoiled child-like dude started ruling while hoping to leave the place whilst also causing tyranical mishaps.

Cons of living there:
-outside the cities you'd be hunted by immortal giant bugs and drowned in seas of blood
-you'd get tracked by patrol in giant bugs
-to go to the rather tame north city you need to give up your soul forever, leave, or get impaled by a 20km bamboo spear or two... or a dozen.
-you could be led by a guy named Hell Joe who erradicates mountain ranges every fight he has
-you live in a giant corpse
Pros:
-rent might be free

Name-hunt-station - Tower of God:
A station that was led by 10 bosses with a lass named Kaiser who is hard af to find and to beat. Same goes for the bosses.
In short you can lose your name there and if someone has your name you are law maniped into slavery and the other person can use your name however you want. Unless you become one of the bosses you can only live in shoddy apartment buildings where a person could still kill you. Your only hope is escaping or hunting for names every few months or years when the Hell train passes and potentially leaves passengers.
Oh also you can be sold there if you're captured.

Necromounda (40K).

A shit hole of a place where crime rates would make the worst city on earth looks like heaven in comparasion. Gang violance is common, there is an over population of over 100 billion so food shortage, famine is common. You lietrally eat the corspes of others and recycled shit

So looking at some of the responses, I'm assuming we're doing fictional places. I already have one:

Name: Porkbelly

Verse: Johnny Test

Porkbelly is arguably the most dangerous place in that verse because of the main cast is always ******* something up, which ends in the city getting destroyed, or the Earth getting sucked into a ******* Black Hole of all things.

The Test family legit causes more destruction than most natural disasters combined. It's a confirmed thing in the show. The only time the city is safe is when there's no experimenting going on between the family that could lead to a catastrophe.

Can't believe the thread maker can't follow their own rules
Can't believe you've yet to mention France.

Anyways, I might as well be the first one to nominate Warhammer 40k. Literally any location in the verse is a hellhole or has the potential to become one.
i am in fact not the first one setsuna beat me

I'll do one that exists IRL:

Location: Detroit

Detroit has been stated many times by people to be arguably the most dangerous city to live in terms of violent crimes.

Here's a list of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Detroit:
  • Belmont
  • Brush Park
  • Greensbriar
  • weatherby
  • Fishkorn
  • CarbonWorks
  • Petosky-Otsego
  • VanSteuban
  • Warrendale
  • Franklin park
  • Barton McFarland
  • Fitzgerald
  • Riverdale
  • The Eye
  • East English Village

Welp for that matter

The Tower - Tower of God

While the rich and grand live their life greatly, most people have to fight for it.

Let's see
-there are three layers
*one is the outer layer and has simple people with at best decent powers. The place is accessible to anyone who is a ranker and thus High 6-B-6-A people could come in and do whatever, like that one guy who caused a war and split a country, killing billions just for food and fun.
*inner part is where people get summoned so they can climb the tower so they can reach the top and get their wish. Problem is there are guaranteed deaths and if you're weak you are totally dead. Sometimes you get even worse fates like they one time there was a 200 people free for all at the tutorial level and everyone died but 3 fellers.
All tests require combat and you may die there. People are often bothered by loan sharks and mafias as you need money to progress, eat and live. Some people see so many die that they quit climbing out of depression around floor 20 out of 135.
You can't have kids here.
*You can't have kids here either. It's kinda like the part that isn't the outer layer but is the chill area but even then kids get killed for being born there without permission though most often they get taken by The Workshop which is a weapon making company. They murder hundreds just to complete a single new weapon.
*Tower has tons of bad people. From basic criminals and traitorous people to a cult of the king who is a tyrant and a baby killer as well as a simp. There is also a rebellious group that wants the king dead called FUG and these guys are also like a religion and a giant terrorist org at the same time. They house many criminals who don't mind sacrificing countless people for the "greater good".
*Rights are non existent for some. There are places where dog people are bred and held captive and such. They are made to fight there.
*Slavery is pretty common.
*Everyone is very stabby
*The 10 great families and King Zahard for the most part are absoltist. They don't mind murdering thousands, they easily condone slavery, nobody can not abide by their rules for the most part. Zahard's orders are taken by most as gospel. There's a princess system which makes girls compete for Zahard's marriage and they can never win cause they need to collect these swords but using two or more summons a ghost which makes people go crazy and in the end the princess usually dies. The whole system is made as a conflict stimulator of sorts.
*place is filled by crazy sea monsters and general monsters
*You could have just been chilling with your fellow Zahard cultists when a red guy would show up and commit mass genocide. You could also be just chilling with fellow god tiers when suddenly a wacky dude comes in and massacres everyone in the castle cause lol why not. You could also just be chilling and fighting off some dudes when suddenly a fish god shows up and sends you to the distortion world or sth idk

I aint even finna bother tier listing them ***** im too lazy so.. ima finna list tomarrow

Any depiction of Post-Apocalyptic Tokyo in a Megami Tensei game. While the specific state of affairs varies from game-to-game, it is consistently portrayed as being a lawless wasteland with little semblance of infrastructure or civilization. Any pockets of humanity are, more often than not, extremist factions who, at best, wouldn't care about your existence. You would also have no way of defending yourself without a COMP/Demon Summoning Program, since the city would be overrun with incorporeal and invisible demons - even the weakest of which being capable of slaughtering armored soldiers with ease.

tl;dr - The average post-apocalyptic urban wasteland, but with some of the most haxxed fodder-level enemies on the wiki.

I'm 99% sure nothing tops the cakes with Warhammer, WoD, or Berserk world as the worst place to live in

WoD is not that bad. The consensus helps to protect humanity from the supernatural. Its mostly normal. It's just some places are affected more by the supernatural.

Most cultivation novels.
It's the law of the jungle. You're far more likely to find someone to take advantage of you, kill you, cook you, absorb you, etc than someone with a good enough heart to help you. Not to mention morality is lip service.

Your only salvation is cultivating but cultivating goes against the world. So in addition to protecting yourself from other people, you also have to survive against the universe trying to kill you.

Lastly, cultivation requires talent and luck. You also need knowledge or else one wrong circulation of energy and you might suffer cultivation deviation and die. Not to mention, you need to constantly be in control of your mind, or else you'll give birth to mental demons that feed on and continue to grow stronger from whatever negative thought created them until they eventually consume you.

I think that should be an okay summary, excluding specific challenges, resources, demons, corruption, oaths, special property realms, items, etc.

The world of Kumo Desu Ga. Seems not so bad at a first glance, but it's literally designed by an evil god to be in a state of constant war and death. It's made so that as a human you just continue to fight until you die, just to be reincarnated into that world again to continue fighting and dying. All of that repeats until your soul gets destroyed from the strain.
To that comes that the laws of nature were altered so that recorded information degrades faster to hinder humanity's scientific progress. That along with the law transformed human society from one on the current level of modernity back into a medieval one.
To that comes the existence of many monsters that humanity can do basically nothing against, as they could singlehandedly wipe out nearly all human armies. In fact, the oceans are infested with water dragons making sea travel basically impossible for humans.

D.Gray-Man's earth. Imagine trying to console someone for a death in their family only for them to become a monster and eat you. Not a fun experience.

SCP: Like imagine living everyday knowing some random ass 2-A or 1-A SCP can end your existance
Scribblenauts: You are at mercy of a kid that is being controlled by pyschopaths

For real life I would say Konya because...its konya!

I'll throw in Aionios from Xenoblade Chronicles 3:

The entire world is a constant warzone thanks to Z and Moebius orchestrating everything to keep the pointless war going forever. No matter how much fighting happens they will always be brought back to a stalemate.
No actual towns or cities for the most part. Just mobile military bases called colonies that constantly fight.
Your life is a maximum of 10 years (starting at 10 years old and ending at 20) and its spent training, fighting, or other things to help the war.
When you die you are recreated at 10 years old without your previous memories and start all over again in an endless loop unless you make it all ten years (which very few do).
Families or romance as a concept don't even exist.
The only exception to this is The City which has people with normal life spans, families, and an actual society, but it's also under threat by Moebius and many of them are captured or killed.
And with a bunch more awful things to deal with.

dmc : in the timelines were mundus won against sparda/dante because it is a 100 percent death with the only beings capable of fighting him dead your more likely to die by killing yourself in fear of fodder demons presence or your blood being used to empower mundus as seen with the void mundus timeline
