I wouldn't call it a "translation mistake", because this would imply that the translator somehow heard the word for decades by mistake. It's more likely it was just a decision made by the English scriptwriters, so something made-up in localization, which isn't really a translation problem IMO.

Quite curious because we actually have the discussion around that scene from the leaked Sonic Forces script, and while there were comments from the Japanese staff about it, it was actually about Infinite's personality and although it would be fine for the English version, it wouldn't really fit for the Japanese one, although later it would be agreed that it was fine.

So whatever happened in that scene, it seems that the "decades" thing wasn't a problem and they were quite fine with the English version.

Remember, CLASSIC Sonic was officially stated to be 16 at one point. Then some crazy backtracking happened and modern Sonic was stated to be 15

Just take 15 or 16 and add the amount of time based on the annual Riders events, his birthday in Generations, and the time-jump in Forces. With leeway, consider the IDW comics taking place over quite a period, and then the gap between that and Frontiers

I've been wanting to compile some post going over Sonic's own age, at some point. But, it's honestly difficult tracking down every solid usage of hackneyed terminology. "Time" is such a common term group, so it'd be easy for me to overlook obvious evidence.

Btw, what would even be the theme for a "Year of Metal Sonic"? "Unquestionable Servitude"? I would prefer a Year of Agent Stone tbh

“Identity,” or “Rebellion,” if Metal becomes his own man. I also think “Evolution” would be a good word theme. Considering Shadow was “Fearless,” you could have Metal be “Emptiness.”
