Rules: No episodes after 2002. Power means nothing here. Quality (animation, plot, etc), popularity, and that jazz all matter. If I'm missing any for each side, inform me, but it can't be from any later than 1999 (it can't have debuted later than that). Dub and/or sub is important, along with theme songs. Purely subjective. This is in total, not on average. The big purpose isn't to win over the other, but to make me and others wanna go watch/rewatch the shows listed. No movies, as Miyazaki and Disney automatically stomp all. Jk, but seriously, movies make it too hard. OVAs and TV specials count as movies.

Might not count as retro but I love the old Johnny Bravo cartoons.

Going, to be honest, I watched literally none of those shows besides Pokémon...

@Beyond21. Not at all. You said you are still in HS, right? You not knowing these isn't surprising. Heck, I had to look up a few. Another reason I made this: so people can become interested in the shows from the precious century.

Look at me talking like I wasn't born in 1999 ovo

@Saik. Do you...want to possibly? If so, keep on following the thread.

was born in 2000 so yeah. and lmao you were born in 1999? i always thought that you were like a 30 year old man.

how are you a second year college student if you were born in 1999? wouldnt that make you a freshman? since you graduated this year right?

I'd have to say Yu Yu Hakusho; it is my all time favorite Anime as well as my favorite non video-game originated verse. Just everything about it is phenominal: Story, Animation, Action, Music, Morals, Mythology, and most importantly, Characters.

TBH, I'm not entirely sure what I want. Originally, it was just decide which side is better with the listed shoes, but now I'm not sure. Elimination sounds good, but I wanna hype up as many shows as possible first.

Awww Invader Zim is not on here :c
That's an instant wi

It's after the cutoff of the turn of the century. Though I do love that show.

Well i may as well hit the latter two, my favorite here is probably Berserk? But since my mother was (is) an otaku that happened to watch a lot of anime i ended up watching stuff like Slayers, Dragon Ball, etc at a young age and Pokemon and Digimon for obvious reasons. So for nolstalgia, probably Pokemon by far, Slayers after that. Also transformers I guess.

Tfw I remember that I thought of doing this after watching a few Daft Punk music videos...

damn, i wish i was old enough to watch those cartoons as a kid, because from what i've heard, they're a hell of a lot better than the cartoons of the 21st century that i grew up with.

I don't think its just nostalgia to say that a lot of cartoons from this time were a lot better than what we had in the terrible 2009 era of Cartoon Network and Nickelodean. Like Johnny Test..... Jesus Chirst, how did that show last so long? It was just CN's cash cow.

There have been a few good cartoons here and there, but to be honest, most of them are still just mindless drivel.

Only recent cartoons CN had that were actually good imo was Gravity Falls and Adventure Time.

Gravity Falls was on Disney Channel, but yeah, I wished I had joined that hype train even though it took like 4 years. Lol. Good thing there's a graphic novel coming!

In the past i focused on these five good series with powerful feats, which one day i will bring here like Shinzo, which are: Care Bears, Yin Yang Yo, Monster Rancher, Duel Masters and Nadia [The best part about these series are the main villains].

I salute you.

This might be just me, but I feel like Classic/Retro Anime is way better than modern anime.

Not quite as much for Cartoons, but it at times still applies at timesas I dislike "lolhumor" (looking at you, Teen Titans Go!)

I miss when anime had official translations for the OPs and EDs (like YYH, OP, and classic DB) instead of using the originals (not that they're bad or anything). Gave it a different sense of feel.

I don't know about you guys, but I watched a loooooot of Scooby Doo growing up. I think we had VHS tapes of the Globe Trotters and Addams Family crossover episodes because I watched those a lot. I also watched Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island and Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase a lot too. I think both movies hold up quite well, but you gotta accept that Cyber Chase has Scooby Doo brand stupidity and lighthearted humor to enjoy it. A lot of people can't (Caddicarus did a great review on it) and that's fine. It's kind of funny how the movie was animated by an anime studio though, it's not to noticable but some shots are straight out of a 90s anime, I love it.

Personally, I watched the 2002 He-Man growing up, I didn't even know it was based off an older cartoon until later in life. That cartoon made He-Man quite the badass, which made it hard for me to understand why people said He-Man was such a lame superhero.

The first Justice League cartoon was fantastic. It skirted the lines of what was and wasn't okay for kids a lot. I mean, there's an episode about the nature of God and what it means to seek his power. Pretty heavy stuff, man. JLU was also amazing, but I remember less of it. The new cartoon, Justice League Action, is really good too, but so far hasn't hit the heights of the DCAU.

Now that I think about it, I watched a lot of Hanna-Barbera shows growing up. Flintstones, Scooby Doo, Jetsons, Thundarr, Super Friends.

Anime was...I watched Saint Seiya, Digimon, DBZ and a little bit of Sailor Moon (Sailor Jupiter best girl) and Pokemon.

Edit: Side note, I find it odd that Cal is younger then me. I always assumed him to be quite older.

@Ever

I always wanted to see that one. Instead we had Scooby-Doo! and the Monster of Mexico which even has a 7 year old I knew was utter trash.

^ Almost the exact same thing happened to me as a kid, only with my sisters instead of cousins. I watched a little bit of the movie with them and got so scared, lol.
