1. How are SMT and Persona related in-universe? I understand that Persona used to be a spin-off of SMT, but didn’t the in-universe relation basically go away once it was hard-rebooted after P2EP? I mean, I haven’t had any references between the two franchises since the reboot, and Personae/Persona-users seem to work drastically differently between pre and post reboot.

2. How exactly are Demons and Shadows comparable? Demons don’t seem to be tied to humanity’s collective unconscious like Shadows are.

Sorry for being out of touch and thanks in advance for any help provided.

Characters from Shin Megami Tensei make appearances in Persona. The most notable of which being the protagonist of SMT if..., Tamaki Uchida. There's a whole section of the cosmology blog dedicated to detailing the links between Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, which can be found here.

There was no "hard reboot" after Eternal Punishment, despite the series being passed to a different creative team and director. The cast of both Persona 1 and 2 are referenced in Persona 3's "Who's Who" show, and the Kirijo Group is later revealed to be a direct offshoot of the Nanjo Group.

Most of the evidence lies in this CRT and the cosmology blog Spaceman linked earlier.
