So, Big Dog has some pretty nutty upscaling. For reference - The 2.0 ton feat was survived by most mutants with Rhino Skin, who have 12 HP. Crystal, the (second) most durable of the cast, has 14 HP. Big Dog has... 304 HP.

Video game stats are too much of game mechanics to use as a multiplier, but the conclusion is, "that's a lot of upscaling". In addition, it's very possible for Big Dog to tank a plethora of his own attacks, and a Nuke Launcher is survivable for him, though it damages him very heavily (which is a bit above 9 tons).

Point being, his durability is going to be quite high here, but not unmanageable.

In addition - Big Dog is a lot stronger in his second key compared to the first. His first key is a really, really easy boss fight - the second has his projectiles move faster, he shoots twice as many, his missiles home in, and his missiles shoot more danmaku (shots of 3).
