Can someone explain how The Almighty is a passive ability?

That's not how passives work, though. "This character starts with this move" is what ability a character will use first in a fight. Maybe you just worded it in a weird way?

Probably the wording, its not like he starts with it as the first move. that key is his original power reobtained he gains extra pupils and the battle would start with it active.

The activation of Almighty is not passive but the abilities of it, once activated, are.

In his base form, Yhwach still has to activate almighty but in latter forms like mimihagi absorbed and soul king absorbed, he has it active from the get-go.

Almighty's precog is something that comes naturally with the activation of the Almighty and the moment his pupils split apart, he sees all future like grains of sand flowing in front of him.

Since the hax of almighty (power null, info analysis, future rewrite etc.) rely on the precog for it to function, they might as well be passive as well since all of them rely on Yhwach's sight to function which is passive the instant he has the Almighty activated.

fyi yomi is talking about his first key where he can force activate it i'm pretty sure.

I'm refering to his second key onwards, once he obtains his full power back he doesn't need to activate or deactivate it anymore the only instances its off is the day/night swap cycle and choosing to do so against ichigo, even in his flashbacks almighty is always active.

Would gerard's ability also need activation? We never got confirmation you needed to activate it and when he dies the ability is on after his resurrection.

I dont really know. I chalk it up as something that can force activate when he dies or he used it before he dies.

Gerard's "The Miracle" is implied that it has to be activated for the effects to proc as stated/implied by Askin. (Tho this is only a issue in his Base Key, everything after that is passive)
