Project for updating the Standard Profile Format

I still think we should simply start a project to edit the pages right away, even if it isn't a massive project with tens of teams at once. Otherwise people won't want to update them and this will likely be forgotten.
Hé, true. I can handle as many non-admin-locked pages as my time allows.

I think that we should first focus on getting the Standard Format for Character Profiles page updated.

I do not think that it is remotely realistic to start a project that demands that the participants check through around 18000 character profiles, and I am constantly overexhausted enough as it is from monitoring the edits in this wiki. Suddenly being swarmed with several hundreds more every day would be more than I can manage.

Gradual improvements seems like a much better idea. Our members have already performed this change to quite a lot of powers and abilities sections.

Unfortunately that's unnecessary and would take way too long to implement, even if done gradually over time. Canonical victories can be listed under their Feats though.

And we put losses under weaknesses?

There isn't much point to a revision thread of our wiki standard conventions if nobody is willing to update the associated instruction page...

I'm not a type of person, who can write instructions well. But if nobody is willing to do so, I'll do it as long as somebody will improve my work.

If somebody experienced writes an outline, I can probably help with refining the text flow.

As for the first solution: would it be useful to make something like

[[User:{{USERNAME}}\sandbox|your sandbox]] via templates? It will turn into a link to the observer's sandbox automatically.

@Ogurtsow

Please elaborate/explain further. I am handling lots of tasks, so it is hard to keep track of the specifics for each of them.

@Antvasima

He means that we could put a link in the page so people can be transported to their sandbox to make the draft.

Something among the lines of this template. As you can see, it automatically turns into your username. We can add such a thing to our wiki as well, but first of all we should add a similar template and some short script.

Do you mean that we should place such a link in the "Additional Information" section, and mention that our members can click the link to take their time crafting the contents of profile pages before posting them, in order to not make as many mistakes? If so, I do not see the harm in the suggestion.

It seems that I may have to add an additional information about upper tabbers that differ canonical appearances of a character. I'm not sure how to properly integrate it within the Standard Profile Format.

Since that probably nobody is willing to help out with all this mess, I'll do it after all.

I can't guarantee that I'll do a proper instruction, but I'll try. Can you help me a bit with the upper tabbers that differ canonical appearances of a character?

So far it looks good.

What do you mean by "differ canonical appearances of a character?" Are you talking about the ones that separate each different key in the profile?

For toonforce characters, I feel like we should add their strongest feats and weakest shortcomings, due to the unpredictable nature of the toonforce

@Skalt711

I think that it may be confusing to mention the upper tabbers to beginner editors, especially as they are only used for characters with multiple incarnations.

Understandable. I'm not going to focus on them then.

I like the suggestion about resistances, is it fine to add the "to" at the very beginning of the list inside of the paraphrases? That may look more organic!

What do you mean? Please give an example.

I must point out that we currently use those parenthesis to explain the reasonings behind certain resistances.

Well, we could use either extra parentheses or [ ] inside of the main resistances parenthesis.

Would accompanying instructions with images and possibly animation be fine? Of course the animation will weigh light enough to be slow internet-friendly.

I think that multiple parantheses would work well. In case of [ ] it must be noted about its use as it is used for hypertext as well as the use of <nowiki> </nowiki> tags. That adds the complexity very well, so I think that I'll stick with Ogbunabali's solution. The following variations can go well with this idea:

  • Put resistances at the end of the Powers and Abilities section, separating the main block from resistances by starting a new sentence. The following template is preferred to be used:
    Powers and Abilities: List of abilities. Resistance to: list of resistible powers.
  • Put resistances at the end of the Powers and Abilities section, separating the main block from resistances by starting a new sentence. The following template is preferred to be used:
    • Powers and Abilities: List of abilities. Resistance to: list of resistible powers.
  • Put resistances at the end of the Powers and Abilities section, separating the main block from resistances by starting a new sentence. The following template is preferred to be based on: Powers and Abilities: List of abilities. Resistance to: list of resistible powers.
The progress is almost frozen, busy with school again. But I'll find a way to contribute even within the busy days, don't worry.

Okay. Thank you very much for the help.

@Antvasima Have you found any working variation from what I have suggested?

Well, the first two alternatives seem to look the same, but seem fine.

Sorry, I noticed the difference. The first one seems best, since there is a risk that people will misunderstand and use a * where they shouldn't otherwise.

I'll setup the first one then. I wish I could setup the spaces between paragraphs to be like the second variation ones. I'll notice if I discover them...

While the source code for the second variation utilizes *: for creating an initial gap, this detail can be commented inside the code to ignore the *: if a user decides to copy the template directly from code.

I'll ask Ogurtsow to setup the sandbox-related template he suggested. It will be very important.

Edit: Mistake fixed.
