Overwatch General Discussion Thread

Aight, I'mma try to calc some feats. If anyone has some suggestions, i could take a look

Torbjorn's artillery having power comparable to a volcanic eruption

Illari incinerating half a city and making miniature suns

The GBE of Sigma and Zarya's black holes

Genji deflecting illari's solar rifle

I do wanna raise that Illari's big feat of nuking the city was, presumably, when she was going all out in a controlled (even if it wasn't controlled enough, obviously...) environment. Part of her character is never wanting to cause that much destruction again, so I doubt she's unleashing her full power during other circumstances

Illari nukes a city
Eh I doubt it was a city. The Origin Story shows the explosion taking out the ceremony room and nothing beyond that, and the Overwatch Website says the blast destroyed the entire chamber. We also see that the Inti Warrior's city is alright and well functioning in the short and illustrations. They also describe the destruction caused as just being the building/pyramid being in ruins, and Runasapi (the city itself) is still intact. The feat is probably High 8-C to 8-B tho
also its very much implied the blast that killed the Inti Warriors was caused by the same group that did the explosion on Overwatch HQ, the Conspiracy, and even Illari believes that normally an explosion caused by solar threading wouldnt happen and it was very much planned out to take out the remaining inti warriors but its a bit sus cause she still was the epicenter of the blast

Nice! Would this also include Illari's mini sun creation?
Idk, I can try to calc the sun's creation on a later day but I have my doubts if it scale to her ult or not. Since the explosion that happened in the story is treated as something related to the same explosion that destroyed Overwatch HQ and that the Conspiracy was likely behind that, so this whole thing is a bit shady rn

redid the calculation after receiving feedback from some CGM, went from 8-B to 8-A to 8-C to 8-B
Sent the calc to be evaluated btw
Meh, still a bit feat compared to the rest of the stuff in the verse but not bad

also the fact most characters use weapons like revolvers, rifles, machine guns, rocket launchers, shotguns and they can get tagged would make them somewhere close to FTL to FTL+ would be very weird

Meh, that just means that said weapons scale to FTL speeds. Assuming of course, the FTL feats in question are legit, and there are no scaling issues otherwise

That wouldnt be weird at all, we have tons of verses on this site that are FTL despite using a lot of normal guns, overwatch is no different

Let's see if Illari's Solar Rifle matches the requirements for speed of light:
  • The beam behaves in a reasonably realistic way, such as reflecting off non-magical mirrors or refracting and diffusing through liquids and materials.
  • The beam is stated to move at the speed of light by reliable sources.
  • The beam is stated to be composed/consisting of photons or light itself, again by reliable sources.
  • The beam originates from a real source of light, such as the Sun or the flash of a camera.
    • Note that a beam does not automatically qualify for this requirement just by originating from a technological source.
And now what criterias disqualify it for it being SoL
  • The beam is shown to move at different speeds in the same material.
  • The beam curves through the air or otherwise doesn't travel in straight lines (with the exception of realistic refraction or deflection).
  • The beam primarily deals damage by means other than heating materials that absorb it.
    • A laser may cause explosions, but only if it rapidly vaporizes some matter, meaning that the target needs to be partially destroyed in the process.
  • The beam is tangible and can be interacted with physically by normal humans, as if it was a solid, liquid or gas. It shouldn't disperse when being hit as a substance would, and should not be redirectable without using a mechanism like refraction.
    • While a laser can in theory push things, through radiation pressure or by causing explosions when vaporizing part of an object, those are niche circumstances and generally a laser should not primarily push things away like a physical projectile would.
