Energy can't move mantle like that, it doesn't have mass. It has to be the tail.

This argument is pure nonsense when we are currently only calculating Orochi lifting the inner layers, completely ignoring the movement created by the energy sphere later on.
So yeah I agree with the upgrade, Orochi lifted the inner layers independently of the energy sphere.

You will have to prove orochi’s tail was the one distorting the core not the energy been pulled
If that was the case why wasn’t the core distorted when the tail was going down?

Also, as you can see in the following panels, the energy balls isn't pushing anything above it, only the layers it passed through got affected.
Your interpretation would require the energy sphere also pushing the mantle and the earth crust just like the inner layers, which didn't happen.
