Special thanks to James for giving me tips on how to make this thread.

Conditions:
  • Light and L have a year of preparation and prior knowledge on Slenderman. Except on Kate of course
  • The duo start in Tokyo, but will go over to North America to investigate Kate's disappearance.
  • Light and L are 9-C even with guns
  • Slenderman has no prior knowledge on where the duo starts, but has prior knowledge on the guns
  • Slenderman is also controlling Kate and Charlie for this match
  • Slenderman starts in north America
  • Speed is equal
  • As this is also an investigation match, the smart duo's wincon is to kill Slenderman or solve what happened to Kate.
Death Note:

Slendy boi with his "friends" lollll: 1 (me, )

Does slenderman have a Canon name tho?

Slender man is more of a given name by fans. It would be like Light using an alias to kill Saul Goodman
Thought that prior knowledge would let him know his real name. He can still get shinigami eyes, travel to the US, meet Slendy, and learn his true name with it.

Ok, one hurdle down, there's two other ones to consider if the death note would work on Slender dude. And I have the scans for my points if you want them.

1: Slender man is far above the max age requirement of 124 years to be killed by the death note. That's assuming he's human.

2: The death note only works on humans. And we don't know if he's human since he's a supernatural dude.

there's also the fact that Light wouldn't like to get the eyes and if he did, he'd need a VERY plausible reason of why they simply got there and f*ing Slenderman died very similarly to victims of the death note and Light would get himself in a very complicated position... and even being dumb as he is, he'd predict this and wouldn't follow this course of action

Thanks for the tip!

I'm glad to help. 👍
Light and L have a year of preparation and prior knowledge on Slenderman. Except on Kate of course
Does that preparation include being able to plan with a team of people they have worked with before, or would any other character being involved be considered as too much external influence?

I'll post the scan while we're at it:

If team Death Note can utilize more characters than Light and L without being disqualified, then Light could send Misa with the Shinigami Eyes. However, that comes with its own problems. A Shinigami Eyes user must look at the face of someone in order to see their name, and it's Slenderman's whole shtick that you can't look at his face. Footage of Slenderman gets glitched as well, so taking a picture or video of his face isn't reliable. On top of that, Light still wants to act in front of L and avoid being exposed as Kira despite them being on the same team in this scenario, so he wouldn't be able to freely send Misa on a mission that would likely get her killed.

This is an investigation match. So SBA may not apply to the duo. Not sure for slender man

Bump.

So there's two major things going here, the duo's superior intelligence, and slenderman's superior hax. It's more if the duo could outsmart slender dude before their brains get turned into mush by slender man's mind (and likely madness) hax.

Am I correct?

That seems right to me. I don't know what method team Death Note would use though. Does Slenderman always stay in his forest? If so, it would be pretty difficult to investigate him without being in danger.

Death note would play a game of chess and start the lead at Kate's house and potentially the homestead Charlie used to go to as usual with their chess antics. If not, the lead would start at similar cases of disappearances linked to slendy if Kate's home is a dead end.

Slender boi's MO is pretty much psychological warfare on his victims until he can turn them into proxies, with leaving little to no clue of his existence. While urban areas aren't his forte per se in his canon here, it would still be in character to try to mentally torment team death note when possible (even without the forest).

Since I'm unfamiliar with the story about Slenderman and the disappearance of Kate, and since it's easy to accidentally apply headcanon capability extents to characters like Light and L, I'm disinclined to vote anything but the match being inconclusive for now. It's worth mentioning that Light and L have dealt with predicting not just unknown supernatural forces, but the motivations behind those. This match-up is fitting for them. I'm thinking how the win condition to "solve what happened to Kate" would be child's play compared to "kill Slenderman," but I can't think of an exact way they could do it, mostly because I don't know the evidence they'd be dealing with for myself.

When do you expect Slenderman to become aware of team Death Note's existence when they travel to North America? If I had to take a guess, it would be upon them investigating a relevant home, assuming Slenderman is still observing the homes of the people he has haunted. Am I right?

If you want a nutshell version of Slendy the Arrival's story, Slendy pretty much outsmarts and kills Lauren through Kate and Charlie. It's heavily implied Slenderman proxified Kate into becoming the Chaser. In terms of where they'd find evidence, they would find it the same way Lauren did through Kate's maddened writings through Kate's home, Oakside park if I remember the title of the park well, and her writings up until Lauren goes to the transmission tower. If they wanted more info on Slendy, they could follow the lead to the homestead Charlie went to.

Correct, as soon as Slenderman knows a person is aware of his existence, he'll take interest in maddening them.

Alright, thanks, this is good information. Also, the original post states that Slenderman starts in North America, but where exactly? Regardless, I've thought of a course of action team Death Note would probably take to make the scenario advance to both sides of the competition involving themselves in North America.

Presuming this match allows L's access to international police forces, L would much rather send willing investigators to all relevant places so they can bring back evidence. With Light and L having prior knowledge of Slenderman, Light would probably disagree with this, because he's pretending to be his good self who wouldn't sacrifice someone else for his own benefit. L's point of view has to do with protecting himself so he can continue being the best detective in the future, which so happens to benefit more people in the long-run. Light would understand that making the team risk losing his brilliant skills would be irresponsible, so he would probably comply with L's idea, secretly having thought the same thing in the first place. The two would be able to watch the investigators through a camera on them or something like that.

It's true that Light and L are both willing to take bold action if they see a good opportunity. However, they don't rush into an unknown problem without any idea of what they're dealing with. Even with the stunt L performed during his introduction to Light, when L didn't know Kira was Light and Light was tricked into killing Lind L. Taylor to reveal his general location, it was on the basis of plenty of data L had about the Kira killings. L had developed a profile of Kira in order to narrow down who it was and to try understanding his personality, for example, much like L himself, Kira is childish and hates to lose, so confronting Kira's idea of himself that he's righteous would be a good plan to provoke him. L realized some of the rules Kira had to abide by due to the nature of the killings, for example, basically all of the kills had to do with someone's name and face being displayed on TV, meaning there was a low probability L would just die from challenging Light when L's true face and name wasn't revealed. In the battle scenario against Slenderman, with a year of preparation and prior knowledge of Slenderman, they would know better than to physically reveal themselves in locations they would mark as danger zones that Slenderman might be spying on.

Where do we go from here?

There's a reddit thread awhile ago that suggests Slender the Arrival takes place somewhere in Canada, but I don't have the game, so I decided to vaguely put the setting of the game in an unknown forest for the match.

Ok. The investigators are going to be the ones showing Slender sickness through Slender boi's hax, and unless if they're a superior physical gigachad like mark Hoffman, the investigators may get one-shotted by his proxies or turn into one of them. But there may be clues given to the duo.

I should note that some of the interpretations of 8 pages slendy could be interpretive head canon. It's not entirely confirmed in the game canon if knowing Slenderman is a "disease" but even if that's head canon, Slenderman will start to stalk team death note once he spots them in the middle of tormenting investigators.

I just meant to ask if Slenderman will be in his forest, nearby a house, or something like that.

This course of events would reveal Slenderman's location. If the investigators who were too close to Slenderman don't return to Light and L, the duo would be inclined to believe something bad happened. If the investigators return as Slenderman's proxies, assuming they turned creepy -looking like the other ones, that would confirm something bad happened. I believe L would be able to defeat proxies with Light's help, since L is willing to use a gun to defend himself and L is a far more capable combatant than he appears to be in terms of strength and combat skill.

In the case team Death Note retrieved enough evidence to "solve what happened to Kate" before the investigators were defeated, the match technically ends here. It's not like they were ever going to arrest Slenderman or something like that, as it's impossible with his superpowers. However, if there is still not enough evidence for team Death Note to achieve this win condition, they might try sending an ambush. Can Slenderman survive explosives? 😅

I imagined the scenario without Light and L being physically present watching the investigators from a distance. They would know that'd be a recipe for disaster when they know about Slenderman already. Do you mean Slenderman can spot them through the cameras the investigators would have to capture footage for them?

The investigators would need to risk getting close to slender man or even collecting some of his 8 pages to get evidence, he could lure them into a location where he could proxify/kill them more easily with little trace like he does with CR and Lauren. How intelligent are the investigators? Slenderman has only technically constantly outsmarted regular people for at least centuries.

Slender dude hasn't shown to spot people from cameras, but he may know he is being watched since he grasps the basic concept of it. He could always scare the victims into giving him information.

I imagined the investigators as being nonspecific, realistic detectives hired or volunteering for this case, informed by Light and L that participating involves potential risk of being murdered. L could probably enlist anyone who is willing to work on this case, considering how the International Criminal Police Organization wanted L's help to solve the Kira killings.

So these investigators are going to be either highly capable unlike most, volunteering at the risk of them "disappearing", going insane or both of the first 2 outcomes. At that point, slender man is going to realize he needs to up his game for the highly capable ones.

It is been awhile since I watched the anime, so what is the most capable people L has recruited to help him that would be the most capable of being in this Slender dude case?

He had recruited the police forces in Japan, FBI agents, a successful con artist who remained undetected by anyone else and a thief who has enough espionage skill to have remained undetected by anyone else.

Slenderman regularly outsmarts normal people through very complex ways, though anyone with enough time and effort could outsmart a regular person. Yet, we have FBI agents trained in government stuff, a con artist, and thief that has a way to slip out of the view of regular people.

Slenderman is going to realize very quickly his prey here is more capable compared to other prey. The forest also makes it far easier to hide evidence, unlike urban areas. Since his goal is to frequently proxify/kill his prey with little trace, he would adapt accordingly to his psych warfare. Due to the variety of hax besides his mind and madness hax, and his proxies, he'll use the said abilities to keep up with L's recruitments. (like, what's an FBI agent or stealth master going to do if Slendy for example, uses his illusion/sleep hax on them, and then he has an opportunity to proxify them)?

At this point, it's whether Slenderman could continue to keep up with the routine investigations and kill/proxify them before it's too late. I do recall slender boi communicating with his prey (as seen with Kate and even Charlie if you reverse some of the sounds he makes in-game for the boy), so it would be in-character for him to be suspicious of the sudden constant supply of highly-capable prey and to try and interrogate at least some of them.

This scenario seems close. Do you think a vote for the match being inconclusive is still fair? I can imagine either of them winning at this point, without a factor making it obvious that one side would win.

lt depends on the minor details though. L and Light would only have short head start before slender man adapts his tactics. And most of the clues take place near his forest. The investigators should be forest orientated.

The investigation will only go so deep before slenderman makes a plan to meet the people that keep sending him "Tigers" per se, so what will both sides do once slendetman adapts to his prey?

Light and L are the type to adapt to an opponent as well, trying to think steps ahead, but this kind of situation leads to the scenario having the potential to branch out into a lot of different courses of events. I'd rather not try to imagine all that. If the result of the match depends on minor details at this point, I feel that goes to show how close it is.

There needs to be sufficient debate prior to an incon verdict, so I'll press further until stuff becomes too complex for me to predict.

This will become an intellectual match eventually. Since team Death Note has the edge in intelligence and exp in supernatural stuff, I'll give it to them for now until there are even better counters.

You'll "give it to them" as in voting for them to win? I suppose that's fine. However, do keep in mind that L had to directly confront Light, which is something he normally doesn't do, as well as had to have more help than he wanted. Technically, Light could've used his Death Note in a way that would've allowed him to be untraceable, but Light wanted to seek L and kill him, rather than taking the optimal course of action. Slenderman doesn't have such a motivation, so solving his case might be more difficult than the Kira case.

I'm merely comparing feats to determine how an intellectual battle would go. The fact that L and Light are close in intellect and each are smarter would mean that they would have a plan in-case slenderman decides to take interest in them. Look at Light's master plan against killing L. If predicting what they would do at this point means going into intelligence, like Death Note should win 6/10 times.

That makes sense. Yeah, Light did succeed with some unexpected predictions.

So, now do we just wait and see what other people have to comment about our assessments?

We could challenge further ourselves or wait if we want to. It's just that there wildcard and minor factors we may not predict like each opponent's plan precisely, the use of Slenderman's powers for himself, etc.

You vote for death note?

Alright. I'd prefer waiting, since I think we thought of the scenario well enough. I still think the two sides would be roughly evenly matched in this scenario, but if I have to choose one, I'm choosing team Death Note based on our discussion.
