Because you're looking at this from the POV of a power scaler. The author clearly portrays Kurama as a much bigger power up as compared to SM. To the point that after losing Kurama, everyone has lost hope in Naruto even with SM. Remember, we don't write the stories, we make sense of it. Just because SM is considered a multiplier as opposed to SPSM KCM, and we consider Naruto's depowered base to be equal to his previous base, doesn't mean we can use that math without the support of the author.
