Monster Hunter General Discussion Thread.

I mean ignoring the fact that it's Omega, and thus, the second of the two dimension hopping mfs introduced in 5, they kinda did?
Quoting the devs

So yeah, it's the same body, different AI, which has some amount of ***** stuff regarding that different AI bit, seeing as how part of how Omega itself got so strong was due to the information and stuff it had collected and adapted to, which would still have some amount of scaling to FFs high end, and it can't actually be a generic omega body (we know how they look, Omega looks different).
So uh, yeah
This is a massive outlier anyhow, but still
Or the Wilds Hunter is just built different. I mean they do have Crossover powers already through Akuma.

How the **** has this not been calculated yet? He absolutely yeeted that *****. Easily one of the best LS feats in the verse that isn't reliant purely on moving their own weight like the other Kaiju sized monsters do.

Do the Great Jagras/Jaggi tier monsters really have no good feats to their name? There's no way their Building level ratings are legit.

Maybe this will give us a more definitive placement on the scaling chain for Gogmazios as well since his power level was kind of up in the air back in 4U. He was clearly stronger than your average Elder Dragon considering he doesn't get one-shot like that special Kushala Daora did by the Dragon Energy Cannon but he didn't have any statements putting him on like Dalamadur tier or anything.

You say this like we've fought anything definitively above High 8-C yet

What are y’all’s thoughts on weapon/armor/item descriptions being used for scaling?
Use with extreme scepticism. A lot of these item descriptions are made to go over the folklore of the monster in question (the link DMUA sent is a great example of this actually). It should only really ever be used when there is something the monster actually does that resembles this.

Ok fair enough, so would you say the description of the dire miralis stuff would be more legit based on how it’s treated in the series or nah?

In these cases, most likely hyperbole. The first one is 100% folklore as it mentions how it as conflicting purposes. The second one could be justified by Dire's own ecology and how it boils the sea around it to be uninhabitable for other species but still not a "It shall blow up the planet on a whim" type of thing. Last one is 100% hyperbole, putting any thought into it whatsoever has the cracks show.

I was more asking as to how the story treats its power in relation to these statements like is dire something the whole world needs to worry about or?

My insanity has finally ended, I found when BannedLagiacrus posted the story for Bloodbath Diablos

I can't check it out now since I've spent years without a twitter account and Xcancel doesn't support the feature this uses, so I'll be incredibly sad if it turns out to not actually be present anymore, but there

I don't think its there anymore since I actually have Twitter still and nothing really loaded for me.

Did the Gogmazios hunt, initially didn’t like it (all that info just overwhelmed me) but overall think it’s a good fight in later hunts

Gog’s placement wise, it’s overall treated as completely above regular Elder Dragons, one Hunter mentioning its a “whole another story” compared to all the Elder Dragons another hunter had slain plenty of, and it’s treated as a way greater threat than Zho Shia given we can slay that on their own but Gog needed seven other highly capable Hunters, including the previously mentioned hunter and another that implied to have faced a Gog in the past, and even then their victory is attributed to that highly powerful ancient weapon used against it.

Fabius even states normally they would need Dragonaters or a Demolisher just for a chance to repel it.

Gog has always been built different, even back in 4U.

It's he have like statement about being in same caliber as shah dalamadur?

The Tempered Black Diablos statement has been brought up before but I remember that being from the very same guidebook that states Blue scoutflies appear in the presence of elder level monsters... Despite Deviljho having green and even in Iceborne well after it, Rajang and Savage Deviljho having green scoutflies

Relatedly we do now know for a fact that Wyveria had Elder-level Firepower in the form of the Elderbreaker and thus Zoh Shia should be High 6-C, so there is at least more solid grounds for it

Same guidebook also states BD in general scares off Deviljho with her power and ferocity, would we take that statement as for the Tempered individuals given it weird to put her at Elder Dragon level when its specified that it’s the more powerful individuals that possess physical prowess on the same level as an Elder Dragon?

I think the guidebook just kinda makes contradictory statements about power levels, given Black Diablos and regular Diablos Turf wars can go either way but a Deviljho vs Diablos goes like this

Honestly I think Tempered Monsters are closer to Deviants in power than Elder Dragons and I say that because Wilds gives us a bit of reference as to how big the gap is now. Lala Barina is a low tier monster below even regular Doshagumas but in a canon cutscene introducing Tempered Monsters, a Tempered Lala Barina was going band for band with a Guardian Fulgur Anjanath, an Apex tier Monster.
