The effect was happening and Strange was slowing it down by slowing down the spells completion. It's why when he changed the spells wording for the last time it fixed the problem.

Cause was rewritten reversing the effect and thus completes the spell with the new one succeeding.

He didn't reverse the effects though. He changed how it would resolve, not nullify the spell and make a new one.

It's magic Manipulation. Though the spell itself would be extra stuff, it's not stuff Strange could do outside of the spell.

Resistance to Time Stop for Thanos (wields the Time Stone, which should allow him to reverse, loop, stop time moreover Doctor Strange was unaffected by the Time Stop for wielding it as well as his what if counterpart which he should scale to at some extent)
