Handling Continuity Splits

I am interested in reworking the pages for Ao Oni's iterations as they're immensely outdated and do not stand the test of time, but the way the series is handled is messy. Very messy.
It is really hard to decide where to even cut off the games on. We have the original game by noprops, then 3 remakes made by completely different groups with plenty of different visions and additions to these works. We then have one of those groups be responsible for every future game, alongside supervising one of the other groups in their future works. But then those same games aren't even part of the same continuity; obviously, their ideas are shared but the timeline isn't.
It is difficult to come to a conclusion, and the games aren't even the only troublesome part. What would be the best way to handle this situation, in the most organized way possible?
