Dark Essence in Granblue exudes radiation that causes mutations etc.
and some people have resistance to it notably those who had close encounters with it such as Black Knight. And most primal beasts can resist it unless they are overwhelmed by large amounts of it but would easily recover if Dark Essence is directly removed from them.
Its effects include death even to those who performed decontamination for 24 hours straight and are wearing gear to resist it.
Materials fusing is one of its effect that Isaac had to weld out a soldier fused with the wall
Of course, there are people who survived attacks from Dark Essence as well Such as Captain for the obvious reason that he fought Black Knight and Pommern using Dark Essence as their weapons
Ilsa, Vaseraga, Eustace, and Beatrix for the fact that weaponry of Society and Foe are laced with dark essence and they frequently take hits and damage from this dark essence without much problem.
and anyone who uses dark essence will gain radiation manipulation.
