Sonic eventually does whatever he has to do to eventually kill Ganondorf in a long adventure where his fatehax prevents him from dying but by the time he does this the BFR timer is up.

Or maybe Sonic being one of the 10 fastest finite speed characters in fiction allows him to get out of the dark world however somebody does that in under a week.
