FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Discussion Thread

USA needs better coordination, and their defense is lacking. The Dutch are breezing through them.

I’m not even American, I don’t particularly like their team and I prefer calling it football over soccer (contrary to the majority of my country) but my God do I pray on the Dutch’s downfall
Isn't soccer pretty big in the USA? (Ofc it's nowhere near as massive as American football, baseball or basketball) but I always thought it had decently strong following there.

Kinda a shame really, it was fun to hear that Canada, USA and Mexico all qualified for the WC but now North America has zero reps already. South America will likely always carry the new world in futbol.

Yeah this was a great year for CONCACAF in qualifiers with Costa Rica, USA, Canada, and Mexico all looking strong and making it, but they had pretty much the exact same performance they’ve always had in the actual tournament, 3 Group Stage exits and a RO16 top finish is really, really bad. Especially in a year where underdog continents like Asia and Africa are thriving

I think it's bigger than baseball but behind American Football and Basketball.

In terms of popularity (In my personal experience), it would be

1: Basketball
2: American Football (But has the most dedicated fanbase)
3: Soccer
4: Baseball

The gap between "Soccer" and American Football is huge though.

Oh also idk if you guys know this already but Japan’s controversial goal vs Spain stayed in by 1.88mm, or 0.817391304% of the ball

I mean isn't traditional for there to be at least one controversial and/or hype goal in WC?

Argentina and England fans still debate about the "hand of god" lol!
Rooting for all Asian/African teams tbh
Honestly same, the monopoly South America and (western) Europe have over the WC needs to break soon.
