DOOM Discussion Thread

Holy fk, you will NEVER expect what happens

Update: I finished the game, it was amazing and it's definetly my favorite out of the 3.
Don't get the people that are crying about the music just because it's not Mick Gordon, music was amazing fit perfectly with the scenery and medieval vibes.

There's some extra codex and lore, but not a crazy amount they're definetly holding a lot of stuff back for a potential sequel to DOOM Eternal, and most likely a DLC.

I've listened to the soundtrack and it's pretty good. I personally believe it's underwhelming due to the fact you have to focus more during gameplay with the dark ages.

It does look really good, can’t wait to check it out

Any wild statements

This is an absurdly good statement if taken literally

Also worth noting it and the Chainshot imply Slayer can withstand more mind and madness hax passively which is neat
I mean, don't see why the codex shouldn't be taken literal
Just states that it has infinite density, hence infinite weight and yeah, madness / mind hax resistance

Infinite LS is good, and even if the current Low 2-C durability feat is being contested by some, this would be High 3-A minimum. And it would also be an upgrade for Titans I'm sure; which I kinda felt they should have gotten some upgrades ever since Crucible and older Doomguy keys were upgraded.

I’m sorry, what’s the Low 2-C feat?
"Corruption" is kind of vague; it's mainly a range/hax feat rather than AP. Otherwise, it would be 1-C.
yeah I think this is just hax and range

I’m sorry, what’s the Low 2-C feat?
The scene that says "Category 4 Dimensional Event." But there are some knit picks about the "4" is referring to the Category rather than the number of dimensions due to "Being no "-" between the 4 and the word "Dimensional." Likewise, there is no "," or ":" after 4 either separating it from "Dimensional event." But actually, I noticed one thing that is a more valid critique. In the game's story, it is more of a teleportation sequence rather than some big, omnidirectional explosion. So it actually is a genuinely bad interpretation to get Low 2-C durability yeah. But High 3-A via Dreadmace should be good.

So why it Low 2-C then?
It power scales from Dark Ages era Doomslayer and also should be same tier as the Titans. And DOOM 2016 era Slayer should upscale due to Samur stating it does not have the strength to kill the Slayer. But High 3-A scaling is better looking above.

It was actually a huge explosion, that was so potent that it basically created an interdimensional portal / crack so it doesn't necessarily debunk it, it basically just was potent enough to warp reality and create a dimensional portal

But yeah, the dreadmace is a good way to just upgrade the slayer, and the slayer becomes even more powerful and rage amped.
Ahzrak was basically stronger than the slayer and just straight out overpowered him, until he enraged him and then got manhandled it's cool to see his actual rage amp in play though

Kinda funny we had a whole discussion about whether or not you could even scale Pre-Eternal Doomguy for even 3-A, let alone Low 2-C Universal at all... and then a week later Dark Ages just casually drops "oh and this random blunt object he carries around has like infinite mass" and we're back in business

“But the steam count though”
it's funny that i see people mentioned "it's not units sold"
which is literally not relevant lol.

whether all of them are from game pass or not, is still profitable these guys don't realize that Bethesda, which includes ID software are all owned by Xbox
I estimate, they've made around 60 ish million, in 5 days of the release

Yeah Game Pass’s entire existence is based on getting big games to pop up subscriptions which is the real moneymaker for Microsoft. Doom having such a big impact on Game Pass in such a short time (with additional sales on PS5) is exactly what they wanted anyway.

Like if MS was actually worried about it cannibalizing sales they wouldn’t have put on Game Pass to begin with.

I personally blame the RTX requirements blocking a chunk of the PC playerbase from getting it.
I missed the days where PC games actually come in CDs/Disks. I understand all digital is next gen, but technology on that level is just not entirely reliable yet. Plus, there are some benefits to physical copies such as data transfer, saving internal memory space, and functionality. This is a common issue with a lot of recent games is Steam always wanting to force crash the game to install updates. Ports of retro games don't really have issues like that, but it's pretty much every open world game in existence that especially has those issues.

Before TDA came out I actually had an idea for a Lovecraftian Doom game that goes deep into Lovecraftian Horror, far deeper than Quake. Seems TDA did it somewhat but I actually envisioned a new spin on Argent Metal more based on Zeuhl Music like Shub Niggurath

Basically a use of reed organs, cellos (Think Apocalyptica), french horns with the signature distorted sine functions Mick Gordon uses, and instead of samples of sounds like chainsaws and lawnmowers like Mick Uses it would use sound samples from things like the sounds of planets

Or stuff like The Bloop

I really liked this idea, IDK, wished some game actually tried it.

I would say that the modern equivalent would be selling games on a USB drive that it can run off of separate from your actual hard drive. Considering that larger AAA can go upwards of 100GB+, this could justify the price increase to the average consumer. Granted, it can vary depending on the price and performance for the USB.

At the moment, I try to keep most of my non-new release game purchases to GOG. That way I can hold onto the install files and make my own physical install media without DRM.

Dope, Hugo replied to my question in his livestream, there will be more Cosmic / Void lore in the future

And Hugo also confirmed that the Doomslayer gets rage amped, the slayer icon basically represents his rage and the time in DOOM the dark ages, when the cutscene happens with the slayer icon it represents that power awakening

It's also shown when he went from not even scratching Ahzrak, to stomping him from the Serrat rage amp

Watch him go full TAG 2 with the DLC and casually drop Lovecraftian 1-A scaling on our asses or give Doomguy onscreen Universal feats to really mess people up.

Nice. Let us know the timestamps of the good stuff when the full vod drops.

Also don’t forget that Ahzrak also got a power up after using Thira as a power source.

If it didn’t feel incredibly obnoxious and power scale brainrotted, I kinda wish I could ask him to clarify what Hell means being “beyond the boundary of dimension” in a literal sense. Like if it actually means being beyond spatial dimensions or whatever.

He’d probably be utterly confused and id end up like those GoW guys on Twitter who annoyed one of the art directors.

I always considered asking things like "hey wouldn't it be cool if you went crazy on the lovecraftian beyond all dimensions noneuclidean themes, works well with Doom"
