DOOM Discussion Thread

If it didn’t feel incredibly obnoxious and power scale brainrotted, I kinda wish I could ask him to clarify what Hell means being “beyond the boundary of dimension” in a literal sense. Like if it actually means being beyond spatial dimensions or whatever.

He’d probably be utterly confused and id end up like those GoW guys on Twitter who annoyed one of the art directors.
I mean, i don't think it's impossible Hugo tends to answer lore questions a lot

And now would be the perfect time for lore questions like that, since they will be streaming quite a bit

Do you guys think the dark ages difficulty is above Eternal?

Played thru Eternal+DLC on Nightmare twice pretty normally but had to settle for Hurt me Plenty in the dark ages because ultra violence kept killing me so much 😭

I actually here most people call it the easiest of the reboot trilogy; still pretty damn tough on hardest difficulty, but the shield is quite helpful in many areas.

It's not even close, the dark ages is way harder lol.
I've been trying to play through it on max sliders as well and ultra nightmare

I think if people should ask Hugo Martin anything, it's if the infinite density flail is legit. Personally if I were to ask I'd frame the question in a way so that it's already accepted the flail is infinitely dense, like "How does Doomslayer carry the mace around with its infinite density and how does the mace not create a singularity and destroy everything?"

Because it's a game lmao, the statement comes directly from the codex we have no reason to believe that it's false.
The slayer can cause a multiverse to implode in the lore, and gets stuck on wooden planks in the game.

Would be a waste of a question

im glad, thought I was tweaking

I'd have to disagree, DOOM2016 is the easiest of the bunch and it does not require much skill usage, just efficient ammo management and distance from the demons will let one glide through majority of the game

new gameplay mechanics are fun as hell to mess around with, especially with the shield and melee

I'm glad ID doesn't shy away from trying new things

Boggles my mind how many people call the game bad just because it's not a DOOM Eternal copy paste, due to it not being "as fast" or it being "too easy"
I know for a fact that these guys have not tried out the sliders, because 150% game speed is WAY faster than even DOOM Eternal.
And the max sliders blow anything out of the water in DOOM Eternal in terms of difficulty.

I mean, even the base game speed is fast paced

My doubts of it not being as fast l died off the moment I saw this clip lol

I ignore what most people (esp Twt) say about DOOM as usually they're just attention seeking, they did the same for DOOM Eternal in trying to push the narrative that it's far worse than 2016

Quite literally, the last thing anyone with common sense wants is for DOOM to end up like CoD. Copy/Paste and rerelease the same game that plays like shovelware every year + overpriced DLC skins, maps, and guns that are collectively 20x more expensive than the launch price of the game. Being different is a good thing.

DOOM was suffering this in the 90s. Final Doom was basically just more Doom II levels. Thankfully we got Doom 64 to shake things up a bit (But it was restricted due to hardware).

Agreed. I enjoyed Doom Eternal and haven’t yet to beat 2016 (If I stop procrastinating, I should eventually beat Doom 2016).

Now trying different styles and execution of those different styles is a different story as execution need to been done well

I missed the days where PC games actually come in CDs/Disks. I understand all digital is next gen, but technology on that level is just not entirely reliable yet. Plus, there are some benefits to physical copies such as data transfer, saving internal memory space, and functionality. This is a common issue with a lot of recent games is Steam always wanting to force crash the game to install updates. Ports of retro games don't really have issues like that, but it's pretty much every open world game in existence that especially has those issues.
For Consoles gaming as well, going purely digital has its pros and cons. There is also the recent announcement of price hikes in gaming I am a bit concerned about as $70 and $80 is still steep imo.

Also not exactly cheap as well.

I don't have a laptop or PC setup to play Doom Dark Ages anyways, but it's further annoying because I'm fairly loyalist to AMD stuff over Nvidia/Intel and apparently TDA doesn't run well with a Radeon due to the raytracing

Uh, i have a full AMD build, my fps is perfectly fine

With regard to the reduction of overall Glory Kills, I feel that it could have been done better to keep both sides of the spectrum satisfied.

Do all demons need to be glory killable? No, but we want to keep the same level of Aura Farming and Adrenalin Rush as the new games. We want to feel the up-close and personal power fantasy of ripping demons to bits.

Considering what the Devs have said about DTDA, they were emulating the combat of the original games, where majority of the adrenaline rush came from strafing many attacks and mowing down demons with little interruption in between.

Glory Kills in 2016 and Eternal were suggested to have interrupted combat more than they should. This can be apparent when done on more than half the enemies in an encounter room. I recall my playthroughs when I kept GK-ing everything to top up my health mid-combat. I suppose I would have preferred something snappy when killing fodder or low-tier demons for resources, which they have now in DTDA.

However, I think they over-corrected in this regard, leaving only a few glory kills for jump attacks. My compromise suggestion would be to reserve glory kills only for the max threat level demons of a particular level. For example, in the first level, the only Glory Kills would be for the Pink Riders. Level 2 would have the Pink Riders and Mancubus. In later levels, the glory kills would be reserved for Super Heavy demons like the Cyber Demon and Chaos Knight.

In any case, I hope the Developers consider all the user feedback when creating new patches, DLCs, and the next game.

The minimum requirements suggest AMD RX 6600 or better.

I prefer the older Call of Duty works like OG Modern Warfare 2 over the new ones.

However, now I think about it, I only really played OG Modern Warfare 2 since that game was good at the time.

Also speaking of which, how you feel about the Classic Doom games?

Haven’t played any of them including Doom 3 and 64.

I've always hated CoD, but I agree it tends to get worse every year.

As for Classic Doom games, they were definitely revolutionary for the time, and have aged quite well. I'd say DOOM 1 and 2 are still great classics; DOOM 64 is still pretty good. Ultimate DOOM is more so a mod for DOOM II, and a crazy hard endurance run but cool. DOOM 3 is the black sheep I'd say, but it was okay.

Hmmm, that is a fair opinion there.

I have heard Doom 3 wasn’t exactly that well received back then due to its more horror focused elements when their predecessors was more fast paced action (from what I remember watching some videos regarding classic doom games and all)

I will give CoD credit… the Zombies mode is not only fun, but extremely well designed and actually requires a bit skill and exploration to fully take advantage of it. Especially Black Ops 3

That and its lore may actually be just as ridiculous as Dooms, if not more. Characters are great as well.

Friends, this is a friendly reminder that we don't allow leading questions of this nature from members of our forum.
Asking them would be considered a rule violation and the resulting statements would not be allowed as evidence.

I honestly wouldn’t even submit it as evidence or use it as some smoking gun proof for Outerversal I’m just curious if “beyond the boundaries of dimension” actually means spatial dimension or if it’s just a generic wording to mean “big boy place”

Probably doesn’t even know what the **** I’m talking about and be like “yeah sure pal” which I obviously can’t submit as proof lol.

Powers and Abilities Addition CRT Draft
  • DOOM: The Dark Ages Key
    • Weapon Mastery (Proficient with a Shield, Flail, and Mace)
    • Martial Arts (Proficient in unarmed combat. Should be capable of performing the same Combo Punches, Palm Strikes, and Stomp Finishers done via a neural link in Atlans.)
    • Attack Reflection via Parry
    • Shockwave Generation via stomps and Ground Fissure Rune
    • Capable of enhancing the power of his weapons
    • Resistance to Paralysis Inducement (Resisted and broke out of Maykr restraints)
    • Paralysis Inducement via Shield Saw
    • Enhanced Mind and Madness Manipulation Resistance (Resistant to Chaos Realm objects which "presence distorts the mind" and "insidious whispers, which gnaw at the edges of the wielder’s sanity")
    • Transmutation?, Lightning/Electricity Manipulation, and Paralysis Inducement via Heaven Splitter Rune (Transform energy projectiles into a bolt of energy that calls down lightning on impact, stunning nearby targets)
    • Weapon Creation? and Homing Attack via Holy Swarm Rune (Unleashes a swarm of ethereal daggers that spread out and seek targets)
    • Weapon Enhancement (Can empower his weapons, even when piloting Atlans or his Dragon)
    • Immortality Type 4 or 5: Stated by Ahzrak that death wasn't permanent for the Slayer. "Too Angry to Die," the Slayer self-resurrected his rotting body to break out of Hell.
      • 4: Immortality via reincarnation or resurrection: Characters that are immortal because, whenever they die, they will simply reincarnate within another body or resurrect themselves at a later point in time.
    • Immortality Type 7 while in Zombie State
    • Rage Power (Confirmed by Hugo, the madder he gets, the stronger he gets, allowing him to defeat Transformed Ahzrak.)
  • DOOM (2016) Key
What else should be listed on the proposal?

So does reflecting the Stone imps charge attack and turning it into three separate projectiles not count as some form Transmutation?
