Converting Explanation Blogs to Official Pages

As many of you are aware, some verses have explanation pages in the form of user blogs. This is good because we can have explanations for certain concepts, power-scaling, and cosmologies without clogging up character or verse pages. The only issue here is that no one except administrators (and bureaucrats with administrative privelages) can edit the blogs of other users. This creates a gatekeeping effect that's infamous on our site.

Hence, I propose we convert/transfer explanations blogs to explanation pages. Of course Tier 1 related pages and those related to verses prone to vanadalism would still be locked as their profiles are. In general, this allows other people to edit/add to these explanation pages, which is what being a wikia is all about. I mean I love Executor0's Digimon blogs too but some (not all) of them would serve better as fullblown pages.

This however would require some of these blogs' to be rewritten, specifically those using first person language as to not violate the NPOV principle all articles should follow. Other than that the actual information would remain in tact.

We already are making explanation pages after all. Take all the Super Saiyan pages, the Devil Fruits page I made, and Digimon Physiology.

Blogs can still be created as rough drafts, and similar to how calculations are reviewed for their validity (and blogs too are already being reviewed) these blogs can be additionally reviewed for official page conversion.

That's my thoughts but what do you all think?

It seems like a tough order, and we'll likely need some standards for what becomes a page and what's a blog.

What do you propose in regards to determining what becomes a page?

I think that this seems like a good idea, but it would incorporate quite a lot of work, and administrators and content moderators who are willing to help out.

Yes. That and they'll also be included in that verse's category.

Before this turn staff only, I agree with the OP. Should we create a standard format for this blogs or not?

A standard format wouldn't be necessary considering there's no standard format for our usual explanation pages like Multiverse or the like. So long as they're written well and are easy-to-understand that's all that should matter.

Is the source code for blogs not only accessible for administrators and maybe content moderators?

Well, we could set up a few editing rules which nobody would read :-( that consider the explanation pages.

You can access the source code via adding ?action=raw to the URL.

@Skalt711

That might be a good idea.

Edit: Thank you for the information.

Stuff about a franchise's history, interviews, or trivial information like that would remain a blog. As should calculations.

Cosmology, scaling-chains, and specific verse mechanics would become pages.

@Sera

Alright, I think that's suitable and I agree with the change.

Not sure about this. I'm not realky a fan of the idea that an exceptional verse needs to have its own page to explaination page for powerscaling, cosmology and stuff, where it could simply be fine as a blog. I could go into more detail about this, but right now I'm busy.

As for "verse-Exclusive Powers and Abilities", I'm more ok with those as most of those are just a combination of abilities that depend on a single verse-exclusive factor/reason/explaination that can be summed up into an actual, detailed page without the need of linking all of those abilities every single time in every profile. The obnly page of such type I disagree being a thing is the Super Sayian one, mainly becaue it's one of the most self-explanatory and straight foorward power-ups in all of fiction.

@DMB 1

The reason why they aren't fine as blogs is because outside of administrators (and content mods?), no one can edit the blogs of others. This is important because people leave all the time. What happens when someone leaves the wiki and their blog becomes inaccessible, thus can't be edited?

It has nothing to do with a verse being "special". Also, don't underestimate how complex a verse can be once you've researched it. Persona for example has an entire metaphysical aspect to it everyone ignores when debating its powers and characters.

The Super Saiyan pages are fine because we can explain them through our own lense rather than using another wiki (i.e. the Dragon Ball wiki), especially when our purpose is indexing characters, powers, and abilities from a vs debating standpoint.

If the cosmology, verse-specific terminology, mechanics and anything else is very simple, it can stay on the verse page itself. Otherwise it should take a separate page, something of a "Verse name"/Cosmology form (like RWBY/Terminology. Exceptions would be, of course, the abilities, which will take the normal "Ability name" form).

If its for verse explanation pages which cover a wide variety of the verse (like the masadaverse or elder scrolls ones) and it is accepted and up to date, then I agree with it being a page.

And how about pages which have long lists of feats for a verse?

Feats should be listed in the character profiles, no need to list them all in a one page

Blogs explaining the cosmology, scaling and verse mechanics are often created by knowledgeable members and are checked before they are approved. As such they are fact-based and for the shows that are already completed they don't need any editing done.

Only the blogs that are created for currently airing verses for which information keeps changing, need to be edited from time to time and very rarely these blogs are approved to be linked to the pages for that reason. Such blogs can always be re-created when everything is set in stone.

I don't see any major advantage of this.

Hmm, I don't know about feat lists. Those probably would remain blogs. Same with general respect threads.

This seems like a good idea; though, I do recall Matt mentioning his Saint Seiya explanation blog he prefers to have as a blog. Think it has something to do with it not quite being well structured enough for a page, but that could be fixed if needed. And other examples include Cal's Kirby blog; which is heavily outdated.

I do support the idea, but some of the blogs might need more polishing before they can be transferred.

Matt's Hypermyth blog isn't an explanation blog per se. It's similar to Ex's Digimon History blog. They should remain blogs. Outdated blogs should be generally ignored unless updated.

Not exactly sure of the point of letting random user edit these pages. Not only are a bunch of them going to be locked, but these pages are really just for show and aren't really what we use to determine the main pages' content. There is a reason why most of them are oudated by now.

^ If users are allowed to edit them, then there is less of a chance of them becoming outdated.

I don't think that letting people edit them would change much in their outdatedness, given that they'd still need persmission and shit to edit them, considering how big these pages would be.

They won't also be big tho. Our Undertale blog for instance isn't exactly the peak of complexity and size

How about making them subpages, which wouldn't show up on the search bar but could be linked as pages to the verses?

Like Elder Scrolls/Cosmology for example.

We could even have a topbar like we do with alternative versions of characters to make navigation more convenient.

They'd automatically have links back to the main pages they're a part of on the top of the page.

Adtionally we'd avoid clogging up our searchbar with explaination pages.

I agree that having them as subpages would make the most sense.

The link is broken Dargoo. But yeah, clogging up the search bar is also a problem.

It's more just a reference for naming the pages; we obviously haven't started making them as subpages.
