In the latest chapter we see Kawaki being beaten by Code who has a small Planet level AP but doesn't immediately kill Kawaki who has a Durability Town Level.
Honestly this look stupid, regardless of the context he held back or not anyway. Attacking someone far below his level should kill him instantly.
we have to change the AP to unknown for now.

If he held back then he does not get downgraded. In this chapter he says someone wants to meet you and he is not on his vengeance list.
 
He was obviously holding back. He said he was going to kill everyone but Kawaki, because Ada/Eida wanted him alive.
He was obviously off guard when Boruto kicked him, because he
a) Didn't even know Boruto was there
b) Was half way into the ground
c) Focused on Kawaki

According to your logic, if Goku shoots a Kamehameha at Krillin despite the HUGE AP advantage, no matter how much Goku holds back he should kill Krillin, but that's not how it works.

That is not how this works. If character A has 1000x greater ap then character B but character B hurts A because he caught him off guard. Character A would not get downgraded or Character B would not get upgraded

It's a combination of both. You don't need equivalent AP to the someone's Durability to knock them away.

You just need to have sufficient Lifting Strength with your Striking Strength to knock someone away or down. (Kids knocking down parents when they catch them by surprise, wrestlers dropkicking bigger wrestlers when unaware)

Especially when that someone was unaware and wasn't bracing their body for a strike.

That is because saitama whole purpose is to be a god tier who is above everyone else to the point where to them he is unbeatable.

And that is 1 example.

You have goku and sorbet
Madara getting stabbed by black zetsu
Boruto rasengan and momoshiki
Luffy and apoo

Being off guard does not result in downgrades or upgrades

Kids knocking down parents by shocking? It's bad comparisons, wrestler like WWE its nothing just like a sircus to me.

It shows you don't need to have relative AP to their Durability just to knock them down or away just necessary Lifting Strength to your Striking Strength something you seem to ignore.
 
Kawaki won't and doesn't want to kill Kawaki, therefore he was certainly not going all out, it's not that hard to comprehend.
