Chainsaw Man discussion thread

So wow, Fumiko just ran away like a little bitch and had the nerve to diss pets as "not family". Was rather unsure about her at first, but I hope she gets some sort of karma before she even gets a shot at redeeming herself in the eyes of the fandom, if that's even possible at this point (which it likely isn't). But here we see Nayuta actually acting like a good sister and really showing her stuff again. I also enjoy seeing how this chapter cements Denji's positive influence on her. Because she was raised in such a loving environment, she doesn't have the same lack of empathy and malicious impulses that other devils, including Makima, would have, and she'd much rather just be a kid having fun. Really gotta give props to Denji there. But I'm worried about what'll happen to her. Hope somebody swoops in to bail her out, maybe Asa, but who knows.

She was placed as a body gaurd for Denji and Nayuta, ditched her duty for some out of control humans instead of actually escorting Nayuta to safety

Now nobody can save nayuta and she's going to get lit up by barem

And fumiko has no redemption arc she's just cooked
 
I remember a post that pointed all parallels between Fumiko and Barem as people from 2 organizations that were trying to manipulate Denji and rob him of his freedom.
Denji is trapped between Public security's apathy and Chainsaw Church's obsession with him.

Another chapter of Runsawman I see. Disappointing to see that scene with Denji go nowhere and Nayuta doing nothing once again. I really believe Fujimoto needs to go back on the rails of normal storytelling for a bit instead of trying to subvert expectations anyway he can because that seems to be the only thing he's been doing recently. Not that it doesn't have its cool moments such as Quanxi killing the hybrids or Denji becoming Chainsawman again; It just doesn't stay on one specific story beat long enough to make anything impactful. It's like I'm being jerked around in five different directions at once and am expected to care about each view all at the same time as well as follow what the hell is even going on. It does feel like where finally getting somewhere though which is good to see, It's just I wish Fuji would get there faster instead of gingerly walking through all these subplots that go nowhere beforehand.

Fumiko is just straight-up an antagonistic force at this point. Real ones knew this from the start of course.

Nayuta's decision to save Denji continues on from last chapter, we learn that she can only control 3 people at once. Seems that most of the power held by Makima came from "fear of Makima" instead of "fear of Conquest".

After Nayuta gets Denji away, she cuts loose and makes her 2 minions kill some of the humans– internal dialogue telling us that Nayuta feels no rush from battle unlike Denji, and that video games are more fun than murder.

This shows us two things; first, Denji's nurturing of Nayuta has overcame her nature as a Devil, as while she feels no regret from killing humans, it doesn't excite her either. We also know that humanoid Devils tend to be less prone to violence, but still will kill people for looking at them the wrong way.

Second, it reinforces that the rush Denji gets from fighting & killing isn't from hurting others, but himself. The very first thing we learn about Denji's Chainsaw Devil form is that his own chainsaws cut him up too. Chainsaw Man for Denji is an escape from his pain through becoming a different person and self-harming.

We then get Barem snitching on Nayuta. Interestingly he hasn't healed himself, seemingly to gain false sympathy. We end the chapter with Barem pointing a gun at Nayuta with a 14 day break 'till next time.

I doubt that Barem will successfully shoot Nayuta, Fujimoto's style has never been "cliffhanger a possible death and then kill them at the start of next chapter". If Nayuta was gonna die at Barem's hands, it'd be within the last few pages of this chapter, and/or in front of Denji. Besides, Nayuta is a Devil lol she can walk off a GSW.

Looking to see what the common take with this is:

Does anyone here believe Angel's "Usage: 1000 Years" has an identifiable ability attached to it, or do you believe all that can be gathered about it is that it has high AP?

If the former, please tell me which ability you believe it is. I've seen abilities suggested for it range from Regen & Immortality Negation, all the way to Spatial Manipulation.

Honestly I do believe it has something to do with hax but anything I speculate would likely be headcannon, other than that it's best to say it's an AP attack (unless someone explains it later on in the manga I wouldn't know what to think of it)
 
I for some reason always assumed that it was an extention of his age stealing ablity. So when it says 1000 years it means that the attack landing will steal 1000 years from the lifetime of the target

"Usage: X Years" refers to how many years of lifespan was used to create the weapon. Eg. Usage: 5 Years was created by using 5 years of stored lifespan, it doesn't steal 5 years from the target.

None of Angel's weapons are suggested to steal lifespan afaik, especially Aki's Katana which is only stated to possess NPI.

The idea that it drains the entire lifespan at once is just speculative headcanon.

Aki's Katana also is not Usage: 5 Years, as it has never displayed the ability to kill instantly. Ghost, Reze, etc. have been cut and received wounds without dying.
 
Quick question, wouldn't Santa's cursed nails be High 8-C? Regarding the fact that weapons from the curse devil tend to be able to harm beings such as Katana Man

I would find it odd for one weapon to weaker than the other when they have the same purpose

No, Aki's original sword was a large nail granted to him by the Curse Devil. After the shooting lead by Sawatari, Aki decides to no longer use the Curse Devil and is thus provided with a new sword– the katana created by Angel.

It looks good, I suggest replacing the supersonic+ calc with the subsonic+ feat to save the confusion later on

As once the speed downgrade thread is done it will likely be removed

You could also high-ball and say he would be Large Building level+ as the wiki says kishibe was implied by yoshida to be a first rate hunter

Not really, Kishibe says Yoshida is better than him and Yoshida says that even the best hunters can't beat old age.

Kishibe: If you're third-rate, that makes me fourth-rate.

Yoshida: Even a first-rate Hunter can't beat aging.
