I don't think the save spot or fast travel are game mechanique, but they are a technique that switch position with one of his strands of hair willingly or when he die.

We even see him turning into a strand of hair after dying while the strand of hair in the little shrine turning into him.

But he was doing before getting the clone technique so

Previous destined one: might be in a  relationship with 4th sister.
