Avatar speeds downgrade

Why Outlier?

Many series jump from Supersonic, Hypersonic to MHS and beyond.

If it's going to be considered an Outlier, it's time to review hundreds of wiki profiles, it's silly to think that for an MHS feat to be valid it first have to go through Supersonic> Supersonic+ > Hyper+ > High Hyper > High Hyper+ > MHS.

Toph and other characters never displayed Massively Hypersonic speed, i also disagree because it was not stated that the dodged lightning is Massively Hypersonic and the revision of hundreds of profiles is a silly thing.

Whether the lightning is real or not, I do not know.

But I think it's very wrong to not validate a MHS feat just because the series didn't have something of this scale before.

The series is MHS from the moment the feat happened and it scalates to anyone who can receive the powerscaling.

2 orders of magnitude should make everyone skeptical. Also it's a matter of how the fictional world is presented. While in several anime there is the concept of blitzing, superfast movement etc, Avater characters were never presented to have extraordinary speed so such a jump does seem like an outlier.

How was this outlier accepted? Most avatar characters including the main ones get tagged by peak humans regularly. Even hypersonic is too much imo

I know this wasn't your intention, but how that came out sounded like in order to have good "combat speed," you have to be an anime

@Real Cal I was making an example to show that how they are portrayed withing the story affects the idea of something being an outlier.

Well, I suppose that you make a good point about that it may be outlier-ish.

Btw: LordAizenSama, you seem to be fairly active again. Do you want your admin position reinstated?

No thank you, I have some time off but I'll be busy again soon

animes, comics, etc characters are not some card games or anything.they can dodge ligthning at some point, but be hit by ~100 times slower attack. thats especially in the avatarverse, where characters are mostly athlethic humans or slightly superhumans physically, with bending abilities.

but a few characters have redirected lightning. for for those some characters in the speed section should be noted as (ranges from superhuman up to hypersonic or mhs) for example. humans are no numbers on the table. if a person dodged lightning at some point, it doesnt mean he will dodge it every time, or that he will never be tagged with a slower attack. especially when avatar characters have been tagged with throwing weapons, or bending attacks.

what puts a nail in the coffin is Toph, her reactions are capped at transonic speed, unless she is in the area made fully out of metal (which is a very unlikely situation. and yet toph jobbed korra who supposedly should've been mhs. if she was anywhere near mhs, then that would never ever ever would have happened.

Why are Toph's reactions capped at Transonic?

Vibrations travel much faster on solids and fiction doesn't care about the maximum speed information can travel, look how many people have reacted to light before it reached them.

Agree with Gwyn. Context and setting is important. Doesn't most of the cast treat relatively slow weapons like bows and arrows as dangerous?
They also get consistently challenged by regular benders who're peak-superhuman at best, and those benders only lose because of lower AP and range.

it doesnt need to be lightning,

it only needs to be electricity, and as i posted in another thread: electricity (depending on the medium in which it travels) can also be incredibly fast,

here is a page from wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drift_velocity where it is said that accoridng to Fermi flow velocity the speed of electricity is at 1570 km/s (~mach 5233),

and ATLA chars repeatedly reacted to electric strikes, so they are at MHS+ reaction speed...

@GreatestSin: Except that

They also get consistently challenged by regular benders who're peak-superhuman at best, and those benders only lose because of lower AP and range.

Also, we don't even know if the lightning in the Avatar verse has real lightning speed, thus assuming that said lightning is moving at the speed of real lightning/drift velocity is ********.

In short, MHS Avatarverse is likely an outlier considering that Korra barely reacted to a Supersonic+ attack (aka explosion), as well other characters considering bows and arrows dangerous within the series

I agree with KKapoios/LordAizen. Their speed should be downgraded.

the explanaton that iroh gave was quite similar (albeit in fantasy terms and a lot more unrefined) to how we explain electricity appearing in out world...

it happened several times throughout the series so i dont think it can simply be ignored,

"n short, MHS Avatarverse is likely an outlier considering that Korra barely reacted to a Supersonic+ attack (aka explosion), as well other characters considering bows and arrows dangerous within the series"

but neither of this two things can be absorbed.

they need to move their body away from this attacks, the MHS+ speedis solely for their reaction and nothing more...

I recall the series hyping up these guys quite a bit, so archers are defiantly a thing.
but they are not famed for their speed, here a part of the page you linked to: "The Yuyan Archers were used for very stealthy missions where precision and accuracy were vital for success, and they were one of the Fire Nation's secret weapons"

they are feared for being expert assasins, not because of the speed of their arrows...

One thing I will say is that the argument for setting and stuff is stupid. Sorry for the bluntness, but that argument is my triggering pet peeve since I've gotten into versus debating. Because, as I said above, it implies that the only verses that are allowed to be fast are animes, because they show "combat speed" all the time with tropes like speed lines and flash stepping, and anything from the west only shows "travel speed." And we can't say we didn't do that with comics, because until recently, we did.

I only said and i admit that you should not consider that, the thing is like Lina said, that Korra and other characters barely reacted to a Supersonic+ attacks, that instant was an outlier and they should be downgraded.

Sorry i confused with the Massively Hypersonic speed, also i do not think that Korra can dodge the Spirit Energy Cannon from the Colossus in base.

I do not think so. It also depends on how fast the Spirit Energy Cannon's blast was.

Would calculating it give us any notable speed feats?

Howard is correct. We go by the feats of the supposedly "human" characters in the verse, not by their real-world counterparts.

@Lennystewart & Stewrt Using two accounts at the same time is technically frowned upon...

Here is what I'm thinking right now, if archers are commonly displayed to pose a threat to the characters; their arrows commonly meet the mark we should find superior feats in such excess they will render these displays/showings as anomalous. Think of it like arrows harming Guts, but due to dozens of feats of being battered by forces far beyond the power of a power an arrow those showings are anomalous.

We should do the same here, so if someone can compile a respect thread with any feat at all surpassing the speed it would take to intercept arrows compared to moments where characters are struck by arrows. We will reach some sort of conclusion regarding this problem.

I would also appreciate help in this regard.

the archers are seen as dangerous because they are expert assasins, not because they can shoot incredible fast arrows (and the MHS only works for the reaction speed anyway so big movements like completly dodging several arrows or a AoE attack is seen as dangerous), the link for the wikipage(it also has the references): http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Yuyan_Archers
