I've come to realize that the show has several issues: subpar animation, unfocused plot, Steven is a terrible character, redemption of literal space nazis, etc. The list could go on and on.

I wouldn't call him awful per say. He's incredibly inconsistent though.
Despite me ******** on the show a lot, I still think SU is an alright show, it just failed to execute on many great ideas, especially with Future.
This was genuinely one of the best SU videos I've seen that summed up most of my opinions almost perfectly.

XY's animation was great.
SM was a different change in the artstyle, but I didn't mind it.
I've been planning to make a tier list based on cartoon reboots, but I don't think it would get much traction.

That scene where they lost all of their budget and had to find ways to get their animation back is still by far one of the most creative scenes I've seen in a cartoon.
