Assuming Ancalagon`s surface area is the same as Thangordrim`s, his surface area would be 160,183,216^2 feet. We will assume that he has 3 ft. scales made of bone. We are assuming he has a temperature of 1100┬║F or 593.333333┬║C. For the temperature, we will take 480x the temperature of the core(15000000┬║C) of the sun for this reason: The sun was made of a single flower from 1 of the trees of Valinor. They were described as like unto beach trees, which have approximately 1440 flowers. There are three silmarils which contain the light of the 2 trees. 1440/3=480. Plugging that into the formula Heat Conduction Q/sec= Thermal conductivity[k]*Area[A]*(7200000000-593.333333)/Thickness gets us 529,969,73.53053551 Watts. That + the radiation at the center of the sun (calculated on a page, linked in the durability page, about something similar. The only difference being the surface area and 480x boost) we get 616,567,982,995,997,3 Watts. Multiply this by 24 hours (at which point his power was finally overcome) and we get 255,703,071,714,788,474,513,038 Joules or Multi-Continent durability.

The Silmaril aren't as hot as the Sun. They are just as shiny and beautiful.

Ancalagon isn't as big as Thangorodrim, he just destroyed the three mountains above it by falling on them.

To be fair, they did burned Morgoth and Carcharot when they touched them. But that could easily be due to their evil nature, given that I don't recall them burning Beren's hands

You are correct. The silmarils are not as hot as the sun, only as powerful. They use that power when they find evil creatures.
Ancalgon most be at least comparable to Thangorodrim if he, a creature of flesh and blood, is heavy enough to break them.
So, overall, do you agree?

The Silmarils are now accepted as 4-C IIRC, so I don't know if the calc is necessary anymore

The silmarils are likely more powerful than the sun and ancalagon battled with earendil for a whole day. This means ancalagon was surviving at least star level attacks from earendil for a while. I think ancalagon durability should be star level.

Well he wasn't getting hit by the silmaril, only in its presence. Though they are superior to the sun, 4800 times to be exact as the average beach tree has 4320 flowers and is about 90 ft. tall. The two trees should be at least as tall as redwoods, which are as high as 300 ft. 300/90=3.333333... Which means they are 3.33333 times bigger than an average beach trees. 4320*3.33333...=14400. 14400/3=4800. Taking that into account the more accurate result is 7671092151443654235391140 joules.

you have forgoten something.

the trees has been stated to be so big that the frikking VALAR can sit under them, as if they were humans under a normal trees.

they could have sit on their branchs and under their shadows.

considering the falae, in their usual form, are colosal buuilding size+ beings, the trees should be MASSIVE, most likely on the level of a mountian in term of size.

also, if 1 silmaril contain 1/3 of the power of the TWO trees, and it's say ancalagon was blusted by the silmaril for all day and night (24 hours), if we would say he got attack in a manner of ray of light, because the silmaril most likely not going to just shoot on him actual shots, but if we would say it was more like a ray of light, and let's say every second shoot at him the full extent of it's power, it would be a galaxy+ level of durability.
