An Important Notice Regarding Imgur

I dislike being the bearer of bad news, but Imgur's new terms of service dropped:

While the implications of this for internet preservation as a whole are disastrous as is, it is important to remember that many scans used here - both on wiki profiles, and on this forum - are direct Imgur links. As most users do not have an Imgur account, and as many of these scans have been circulating for months or years, it is reasonable to assume that many of them will be deleted starting May 15th. I would like this thread to focus on the discussion of a possible alternative, as well as a place to identify important threads and profiles that use Imgur links. Also, please do not discuss the NSFW ban, as while it's still important in and of itself, it isn't relevant to this wiki and I know people here will absolutely not behave if given the opportunity to talk about ****.

Apologies for making an unapproved announcement post, I just believe this issue is important enough to be brought up as it affects the vast majority of both the wiki and the forum.

Thankfully, I save all my Imgur Albums and set them as private so mainly people I share the URL with will see it and no one would randomly find it via browsing.

Are you sure on this? Because based on what Fujiwara's showing, it just seems to be all old, unused images, which are quite a lot as far as the wiki goes

I just wanna be sure because this could very much be a cause for concern

If I uploaded images of pages from a book that isn't inappropriate to Imgur, without having an account there, and only people with the link to them are expected to be able to see the images, does that mean they won't be deleted?

I have no clue where you're getting the idea that they're only removing explicit content. It quite clearly says that old content not tied to a user account will be deleted, as well as explicit material. I also do not see the quote regarding it only affecting public images; Only a quote saying that public images will be subject to human moderation instead of automated deletion (which only extends to the ****, anyways).

People can upload images to Imgur without having an account in the first place. It seems that this feature is going to be hindered now. It's unfortunate.

That's great man. I'm glad you're one of very few people to actually have an Imgur account here, but the rest of us are gonna have to replace literally hundreds of links in less than a month before everything gets nuked. Literally one page alone has 111 Imgur links. This is excluding many other large pages which don't use images from Imgur accounts, so if you want to replace every individual scan on every single Shonen and Marvel/DC page, be my guest.

Oh, this is also overlooking how closed threads can't be edited, so any previous threads that used Imgur links? Those can't be replaced. They're just dead forever. Even if we all collectively got Imgur accounts, that wouldn't retroactively make those images work again.

God I cant even pretend to be patient here. You're all ******* idiots. Hundreds of profiles are going to be rendered non-functional in less than a month and nobody seems to give a shit.

I hope seeing every major profile suddenly be filled with dead links is enough to make you clowns realize that this is an actual issue.

It should be notified, so users who know to have uploaded without an account to make one and possible re-upload their scans. I will try to look through my scans or simple await till it they die to see which ones are as I have the scans saved anyway.

But going on the large, this is annoying as if you want to know which scans aren't linked to an account then you'll have to go through all of them and verify. Sincerely, I will only do it for my profiles and some that I like.

I think this is a problem for sure, i mean the solution seems easy but the problem is even finding them, i doubt you go around trying all links in the pages everyday, until someone reports or does anything about it there will be hundreds of profiles with broken links. Not a problem to me i have an account, but it will be even harder considering some profiles dont even have references.

In my opinion, the best solution to address this problem would be to create a brief note and publicly announce it, so that people can be informed and take necessary actions to safeguard their future profiles.

As for the older profiles with no supporters or references, their images can still be saved on an Imgur account if any content moderators wish to do so.

However, it may only be possible to save a limited number of them, and unfortunately, for the older profiles that are no longer relevant or valued by anyone, there may not be much that can be done to help them (Except re-creating the profile).

Peoples still using discord linked image to this day, and we all know that discord image can die easily, many profiles still used youtube video for scan and linked to youtube, which have high chance to be taken down or die. Hell even Imgur could die in the near future for all we know. So sure this is an issue, but there is nothing we can do about, it is verse's supporters responsibility to take care of their profiles

Fandom might be a landmine for copyrighted material and often times for multiple scan albums it might not really be the best procedure. That's where Imgur has us beat.

Wel i can make an entire album worth of scan, and the ability to write under the image is kinda neat when you want to write translation or contexts under scans, so it is a convenient platform

Yeah this blows, I've used quite a lot of scans up putting them on Imgur first and didn't use an account. I'll try and sort out profiles I've made or worked on by reuploading a bunch of shit (Comic profiles top priority since they have the most) but wow trying to do that in under a month is gonna suck.

This is where Imgur has us beat by a ******* landslide, not to mention the abysmal size limit of Fandom for photos, videos and GIFs. Hell, we can't even upload small video clips here for feats from video games, TV Shows, movies and whatnot.
