About Reversing Causality

So this has always been on my mind, let's a character has a pistol that can reverse causality. In short, effect before cause. So if effect is that the bullets hit the opponent first, does that mean the wielder of the pistol have to pull the trigger afterwards? Another example, what if a character has a spear that could reverse causality. If the effect is that spear hits the opponent, would the wielder still have the spear in his hand? Would he throw it afterwards? It's just a bit confusing since this is one form of causality manipulation that I'm not familiar with.
