What's the current situation of MTL right now? There are a lot of verses (like thousands of Xianxia verses) that lacks both an official and unofficial translation but have some decent MTL that's readable, I've read the rules and it says this:

the analysis of re-translations performed by members of the VSBW may be used as a means of evaluation. However, it should be noted that these translations may not necessarily be considered superior to official translations and should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Machine translation is not an acceptable alternative, as it is prone to errors and mistranslation, and would have to be re-evaluated by members of VSBW anyway, rendering it redundant.

However, is this rule saying that MTL just isn't allowed as an alternative option or it's a prohibition against MTL as a whole?

Pretty sure MTL is not allowed in general, if even fan translation is being threatened here. Which sucks considering how many xianxias are just MTL but eh.

Bassicly, machine translation, which has been improved by a person, and helps correct and improve it.

If you mean an example, "Slime Reader" volumes 16 to 20 are edited mtl.

What do you mean by "new rule"? Pretty sure mtl has been disallowed for years now.

it wasn't officially banned until some months ago tho, and i still don't understand how this new rule works, since it only mentions that MTL isn't allowed as an alternative to official translations

From my understanding is that mtl, can be used for series that are not fully translated, let's say a series have 17 volumes translated, and the last 3 only have mtl.
If you want to add additional information with something from later volumes, it was fine to use mtl for that.

What is not allowed it to use mtl as an alternative source of translation to replace otl, or use verses without an official translation(That only have mtl or a large majority of it is).
