Deltarune: Chapter 5 (SPOILER!!) Discussion Thread

I mean the Fun Gang can stil be damaged from Green fire in the Flowery fight and vs Green & Orange fight, while neither Flowery, Orange or Green seems affected by the fire even thought the fire is touching them
I mean, is it even touching them? From our 2D perspective, Flowery could just be moving a bit backward and the sprites would still overlap even if they never actually touch.
Kinda a similar thing happens in the Pink fight where the bomb radius looks like it should hit her, but it doesn't.

Hey y'all I can try myself but, normally when hitting pink in her fight, we do harm her as her head fall off, but what happens if we hit her in phase 3 when the ghost is present? Is she also harmed?

If it's the case, could this grant ralsei's non-physical interaction, alongside Kris and Susie getting another feat for it?

Also puppetscarf and devilsknife are weapons made out of spamton and jevil, could Susie and ralseis feat also grant them that ability as they are being used to harm pink (or for Susie also she interacting with her own rude busters?)

Well, since Flowery's profile was cut in half get it? here is the sandbox for you all to discuss and edit!
So, while I do not have anything to suggest for the profile... after some thought, I feel like Pocket Reality Manipulation is something that all beings inside the Dark World share (most notably Darkners), rather than being exclusive to Flowery.
No Lightners have ever simply walked out mid-battle iirc, and the only ones who have are the opponents who initiated the battle first. This is also supported by Flowery forcing the Knight into an Encounter by interacting with a Floradinn and taunting them to escape, and characters like Aqua are able to cause an Encounter stop if they want.

So, if I'm sure, Pocket Reality Manipulation could be added as an ability for Dark World natives if we want.

As much as the visuals make it seem like they initiated the battle, they actually didn't. Toby originally tried to implement a mechanic where we had to slash the opponent in order to get the first turn, but he ended up scrapping it (but the mechanic is still sitting in the code), which would suggest that we're the ones who normally initiate battles.

I mean, if everyone could freely initiate a battle, then what Flowery says to the Knight would basically become meaningless and carry no weight, which I highly doubt was Toby's intention.

Flowery should have Resistance to Sleep Manipulation and Dream/Nightmare Manipulation, as he is unaffected by Scythemare even when it's amplified by Jevil. The “Z” effect is also notable. Against normal enemies, the “Z” can be cut in half indicating the spell worked, whereas with Flowery (or probably bosses in general), it can't be cut at all and instead simply falls off.

Isn't that because bosses generally can't be tired thus the spell wouldn't work? Even King who canonically states he is growing tired can't be pacified, seems more like game mechanics to me tbh

That's just the animation that happens when you use it against a not Tired enemy, it ain't really something special about Flowery.

They can, but it takes considerably more effort to make them tired, we literally have Jevil as an example of that.
As I said, generally, the pacify mechanic is only used for the Jevil fight and regular enemies/mini-bosses and never in any other major boss in the game, probably because his mercy meter can't be raised similar to how we can't raise Tenna's and have to use different methods than normal.
I probably should have worded my reasoning better mb, I meant the fact you can't pacify King in battle despite him stating he is tired in it, your example actually helps prove my point, the fact he is pacifiable outside of battle despite being just being healed by Ralsei beforehand shows that he can be pacified, but for some reason we can't do it in battle which is a weird descrepancy, my arguement is that this is just because of game mechanics which should apply to every other boss in the game.

Oops. But then, shouldn't they have at least Resistance to it, given that it only works after they've been made tired? That's the reasoning we use for Jevil's resistance, so why wouldn't the same apply to other bosses or enemies that operate under the same condition? Especially since this is Scythemare, not just the normal Pacify, which should be the more potent version (Susie learned Pacify since Chapter 1 iirc).

The reasoning is that those abilities only work if the target is Tired, and since bosses normally can't be put into that state, I don't think we should simply exclude them because of it. If they were in the same situation as Jevil, for example, the interaction would be identical, we'd first have to make them Tired, and only then could we Pacify them.

King didn't say that in the battle, he said it after the battle, once we had already defeated him. So there's really not much basis for claiming we could have Pacified him during the fight, because he never states that he's tired while the battle is actually taking place.

He seemingly starts having some trouble talking (takes longer before starting and finishing his sentences) after he uses his special attack, with him implying he can't keep going on longer which is collaborated with him collapsing, if Jevil and every other enemy can still attack while being TIRED, King being moments away from literally collapsing should count as him being tired canonically, he has unique flavour text for being on low hp just like pretty much every, other, enemies that are tired via low hp.

It isn't him being fully tired. As King himself puts it, he's merely “grown” exhausted. The post-battle dialogue seems to indicate that's the point where he actually becomes fully tired. The reason we can't Pacify him (aside from the obvious scripted game mechanics) is likely the same reason as Jevil. Jevil's flavor text explicitly says he's getting “more tired” each time Hypnosis is used on him before it finally works. In other words, the target has to become fully Tired first, and King simply never reaches that state during the battle.

And like I said, if Jevil's Resistance is based on the fact that he needs to become fully Tired before Pacify can affect him, then why wouldn't the same reasoning apply to the other bosses? There's no inconsistency there. The mechanic itself is the same, the only difference is that we never get the opportunity to push the other bosses into a fully Tired state during battle.

Yeah Jevil should probably just lose the Resistance

But I guess Jevil should probably have Sleep Manipulation and Dream Manipulation as well, scaling from Scythemare. So I guess it isn't a completely sad ending?

good job now Jevil loses exactly 2 more matches than he would without this nerf

All he says is he has grown exhausted from the long battle, which doesn't really disprove my reading of King being tired after using his final attack or on low hp combined with the evidence I used for my claim.

Would Spamton have enchanced Healing via helping Ralsei with revivesong?
I don't think so, because the spell is a team effort (duo angels) to grant that higher healing. If Spamton were effectively replacing both of Ralsei's mini angels, then he could arguably have an Enhanced rating, but he doesn't.

Unlike Jevil, who performs it entirely on his own (Susie's scythe/axe? being replaced by his Devilsknife) every time Susie cast Scythemare while Devilsknife is equipped.

I mean Ig? Feels like kind of a reach when the text outright states Susie is the one casting the spell with no mention of Jevil and the tp cost stays the same, I'd buy more that Jevil helps Susie with the spell similar to Spamton rather than Susie not contributing at all, then again Susie's bet20 act does get buffed if you equip Jevilstail so it's weird.

She casts the spell, but Jevil is the spell, in a sense, he's effectively replacing the original version. Otherwise, there wouldn't be much reason for Spamton to appear in ReviveSong if he weren't contributing to it. The same logic applies to Jevil. The difference is that the actual effect is entirely his doing. Susie may be the one casting the spell, but the scythe, the slash, and the laugh are all Jevil's.

Oh yeah, Resistance to Social Influence should probably be listed under his Breaking the Fourth Wall section, considering that Flowery's whole gimmick is being able to manipulate the game's measurable values. So I guess the slow progress on ACTing at him is intentional on his part.

Also, especially since Seth can literally throw away the Mercy Percentage so that they can't be spared. Flowery should scale to that, given that he's the oldest of the bunch and being a hero figure or whatevs, he most likely understands almost all of the game's mechanics already. That's another NPI feats for the whole flowers gang.
