The Boys discussion thread

Why would he have significant training? Admitting his unusual enlistment makes it likely he skipped the normal process and was thrown on the field pumped with V, he doesn't need conventional skills as an invulnerable superhuman.
Because he demonstrated skill with a gun and even at knife throwing? And because he trained with the military BEFORE Vought chose him? Because we see that Soldier Boy often trained in hand-to-hand combat in the first flashback of Black Noir? Not to mention the rumors that Soldier Boy killed JFK.

Everything indicates that Soldier Boy possesses Weapon Mastery and Martial Arts skills; you're just engaging in mental gymnastics to try and prove otherwise.

Godolkin combat training is expressly a new course introduced by Vikor, even there it's shown most supes rely on projectile abilities or other non-physical means of attack, so pummeling them is not a skill feat.
Huh? I'm talking about season 1 of Gen V with the Golden Boy vs Incredible Steve fight in the gym. Godolkin University has been training their hero since 1965, so H2H combat and physical training in general has always been part of their studies.

Maeve has no other powers besides her enhanced physical abilities, so she could only use her melee combat powers to fight the other Supes.

She still trains in hand-to-hand combat, as seen in season 1, and between seasons 3 and 4, she trained intensively for four months, so her skills were far from rusty against Homelander in season 3.

who had Starlight + Female on the ropes until she showed up, so hard that Stormfront had to flee.
Stormfront got wrecked because she couldn't use her lightning, which was her main advantage against Starlight and Kimiko. Maeve is stronger than Starlight, Kimiko, and probably Stormfront, yes, but that doesn't change the fact that the AP gap isn't significant as already explained.

Notwithstanding that her stopping a bus with one arm early in her career was considered a legendary showing.
Only by Starlight who had been a Maeve fangirl since she was a child, and it's a LS feat not AP, and Maeve broke her arm doing it.

Again, even as the strongest of the Supes, apart from Homelander, she can still train in H2H against regular men and weaker Supes by holding back her strength, what's so difficult to understand?

Yet plenty of unskilled actors convincingly play people good at fighting
Because professionals trained them some time before filming?

curious, almost like Homelander was not designed as such a combatant.
So, all the characters in the Game of Thrones show weren't "designed" to be good fighters then? This proves that argument is ridiculous.

You have reached a level of such seething to cry bias at anyone who disagrees with your echo chamber, even someone who made 1/4th of the verse's pages, just hold the L.
I've disagreed with quite a few people here often, and I've never brought this up until now, because it's incredibly obvious that you have a bias against Homelander and The Boys every time you write a comment. Anyone can see that by reading all your past comments in the discussion thread and the CRTs

just hold the L.
Imagine saying that when you're using the "how good the actors' fight choreography is" argument, and when you're desperately trying to prove that all the characters who downscale to Homelander are unskilled or even by saying that all those who downscale to Homelander are actually "so much weaker" (so, saying nonsense about the lore and powerscaling).

Homelander's win lose ratio is horrible

thw characters he loses to feels like a blunt rotation lol

Not only is he always out against people thag brutally outskill him and outhaxxing lol, but also he is practically THE ONLY THE BOYS CHARACTER USED
Seriously can't remember the last time I saw a TB matchup that wasn't Homelander

A good chuck of this guy's content is literally just that (stat trinity stomp too) lol!

He even uses our scaling and calcs for many of the HL stomp MUs, HL very rarely gets a W on his channel but it's pretty obvious that's the intention.

Problem is that he’s the embodiment of big fish in a small pond. He rarely has had to go against anyone near his level of power. Most characters within the High End Tier 8 to low end Tier 7 range (which is where I see Homelander being) have a lot of experience against people on their level.

Also this isn’t just a skill issue either we’ve seen him lazily default to heat vision for most fights. So it’s not like he’s had a chance to maximize many of his powers at all.

At least his heat vision ignores durability via heat damage

That’s kinda fair. I would argue it’s the only one of his powers he’s skilled with, considering how he can use it low enough to warm up milk or injure but not kill Stormfront. The other issue is that he’s e unstable and easily frustrated. Against someone who he could beat with heat vision but he’s weaker than, he’d probably flee or it’d make his attacks sloppier.

Fluttershy vs Homelander was funny because his win con was, hit her with Heat Vision as she's dodging, trying to reason with Homelander before Homelander being Homelander makes her crash out and one shot him with that rage Amp and give him the same treatment Mark gave angstrom

So, kinda late to the party lol, but I saw this thread about downgrading the MCu speeds because of the way the visuals depicted speeds, and that got me thinking: wouldn't this also apply to something like The Boys?
Like, here you can see MM and Starlight interacting at normal speed while SB and HL duke it out, which wouldn't sound like Hypersonic+. Same happens in the final fight of S3 with Butcher v SB - with again MM and Starlight moving normally - and Maeve and HL fighting in the background. Also, SB gets blitzed by HL's flight speed. And Noir and sort of keep up with HL.

I had thought about that, but I think we should wait until after season 5.

Damn Dalesean nuked MCU's speed scaling. Can't wait to make the boys Verse a Videl victim.

Is Homelander's HV confirmed to be able to move at ls?
No because we can see it has Kinetic force behind it so it can't be light. It's clearly a energy beam.

And I would call this a massive outlier for A Train. Because if A Train was consistently that fast, then he would have left Homelander in dust in 0.1 seconds.

I never thought it was ls just wanted to see if people thought it was. Anyway the whole kinetic force thing is kinda weird because i've been in debates such as with dceu superman where they just pointed at radiation pressure and called it a day.

I mean it very clearly is an outlier. A train broke his record and was only able to reach mach 1 in s1. Even after getting his new heart there is no way he suddenly gets millions of times faster. Also whilst Homelander is literally chasing him, a normal woman can have a conversation for multiple seconds before they reach her, does not seem like mftl A train to me lol. Same thing happened in S1 as well with Starlights energy beam and I don't think that was ls. Also in the same slowmo scene we can see the us flag moving in the back ground and I really doubt that flag reaches any percentage of ls.

Just wanted to confirm if there are any statements that put Homelander's hv at ls and preemptively counter them.

Fair enough. Also people please use spoiler tags when talking about this last season 🙏
Is Homelander's HV confirmed to be able to move at ls?
No confirmation so far, but also, I haven been checking some scenes where people seem to react to heat vision, and it looks like all the time it's aim dodging by predicting the HV.

Season 5 came out and A train literally out runs his HV. Spoilers ahead so be aware. This is not aim dodge.

I don’t think A-Train is MFTL+ especially since we don’t have solid evidence his heat vision is meant to be light speed. However, it’s clear A-Train is faster now.

He statued Homelander and had the beams moving in slow motion. Also, he ran faster than his flight speed to. Saw the episode, and he was only caught because he swerved to avoid colliding with an innocent person. We know Homelander could break the sound barrier as a kid.

The feat is very much a outlier. The entire scene right after this one completely contradicts A Train being that fast. Heat vison isn't light speed anyway, it's energy.

But more importantly A Train goes from being able to statue Homelander, to only be able to barely make distance, which makes 0 sense. Also it the virus can't kill Soldier Boy, and by extension most likely Homelander too. And Noir seems to be upto something. We might get that fight after all.

Yh I was responding if Homelander's HV was hypothetically ls.

The virus cannot in ep 2 he wakes back up after exposure. We also see SB later on in teh trailer so he cannot die now. And lets be honest it would be anti climatic for Homelander to a virus.

I also agree on the outlier thing.

Homelander is literally chasing him, a normal woman can have a conversation for multiple seconds before they reach her

Which part specifically are you referring to as a contradiction?

Either way, I don’t think using his previous speed limitations as argument makes sense when he’s clearly improved significantly. He’d be Hypersonic+ from this, which is still many times over than the speed that required compound V injections too.

I meant if it is revealed that hv is in fact ls do to a statement somewhere.

Not arguing against it necessarily, but I'm pretty sure that if this became a standard 99% of verses currently on the wiki would be downgraded. Consistency of speed and its implications in fiction are generally treated as an afterthought.

The MCU wasn’t downgraded solely for this reason. Among the reasons for the downgrade were the fact that all high-end feats were not to scale with combat speed, the depiction of characters moving at subsonic speeds during combat, the constant use of weapons and sound-based weapons against them and the threat they posed, the fact that every supersonic movement had a different visual effect, and the fact that subsonic speeds were more consistent for the characters.

This is why when it comes to live action speed the dceu is so easy to scale. Everyone is at minimum a bullet timer and snyder tries to show that they have pretty impressive superspeed.

The interaction between MM and Starlight isn’t an anti-feat for them. And Soldier Boy was able to hold homelander’s arm when Homelander flew toward him, so it wasn’t a fully-blitz. And anyway, that doesn’t matter because Homelander’s speed rating comes not from his flight speed but from saving Butcher from a bomb—and that’s a reaction and combat speed feat, not a flight speed feat.

The reason Black Noir was able to keep up with Homelander was that Homelander was unskilled and Black Noir had superior skills.
Apart from that, Homelander was moving faster than Black Noir.

I am gonna cover everything in spoiler just in case.

First A Train. The contradiction is A Train being able to move so fast that Homelander is statued. But then Homelander is able to fly after him. These two things can't coexist. Either A train is so fast that Homelander get's left behind in a millisecond or A Train can't statue him. Making this plot induced stupidity.

Next is Soldier boy vs Homelander. And this isn't even a debate. Not only do we see MM clearly being able to follow their movements but just in today's episode we can see that Soldier boy's speed is only Athletic human level. He is evaded by three normal humans.

TBF A train was hit in the shoulder by Homelander's HV which could have made him go slower. but then again in the same scene the American flag is moving and normal humans can somehow process A train running for his life but a muzzle flash is frozen. I would be hesitant to call this an outlier tho since he did this before with Starlight. Also where did A train get tagged by athletic humans cuz i think that would be an outlier.
