Absolute Universe DC Comics Discussion Thread

Now that I've read Absolute Superman #17. I've gotta say thats among my favorite issues in the run. Juan Ferreyra's art and paneling were really good. Using Hawkman and Parasites slime for the panels was a creative choice. Superman defeating Parasite by bringing assurance to the people of Metropolis rather than just overpowering it is so Superman. Simultaneously calming 2 million+ people is probably social influencing? Perhaps him not succumbing to fear inside of it is also a feat of Supernatural willpower. And after parasite popped, 2 779 388 people were suspended in midair and Supes did most of the work catching em before they fell. Probably another High Hypersonic - MHS feat which is nice for consistency.

Overall I'd say that Parasite Mini arc we had was pretty good, and poor Lex. Brainiac just gave him a tragic backstory and left. Now he has a good reason to hate aliens.
 
What do we think about that "I'm as strong as the sun" statement, could it give a possbily multi-continent level raiting ?
 
Shouldn't post battle of Kansas Supes straight up be mhs+ instead of mhs+ combat reaction speed ?

Tbf he effectively is, it’s just that his top flight / travel speed is higher (Mach 5k) than his other ratings (Mach 3k) cause Post Battle Of Kansas doesn’t have anything showing his combat speed is on par with how fast he jumped from the Philippines to Bhutan (since that was just traveling in a straight line with no reacting or turning) plus his max flying speed disoriented Hawkman last issue (edit: When Kal dragged him over to Metropolis)

And like that, the calc is accepted. Diana and Wally (whenever he's not immeasurable) will probably get to leech of Superman's speed feats

I’m not sure if this is the most accurate but maybe Wally should have an “up to immeasurable” rating for his speed given how he seems to treat time like a spatial dimension he can run along, seeing what he previously did and what he will do. Like back in #9.
Just that it’s uncontrollable for him currently
 
Funny how Absolute Batman tends to get all the media attention when at least Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman are honestly the better comics.

Batman in general is just the more popular character (he got so many animated projects, Superman has an handful, WW is in the trenches) and it applies to the main continuity too. Tbh I was surprised by how much Batman dominates sales with multiple of his runs in top 20 lists as I only got into the mainline comic stuff within the last 6 months (Superman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Flash etc).

i will say though i personally like Absolute Superman more than Absolute Batman but they’re both pretty solid.

Yeah I feel the exact same, especially since Manhunter is so much better as well
 
Specifically about the art and paneling, while I like Absolute Batman and doesn't think it's bad at all, the other comics are definitely better. Switching from Bats to WW was a whiplash with how beautiful and easy to follow the direction for WW is compared to Bats. (This is subjective but I lowkey don't fw Absolute Alfred as a narrator, yammering boomer ass old man)
Story-wise, the only one lagging behind so far for me is Absolute Flash mostly because it's focused on the POV of teen Wally who has 0 clue what he's doing or what's happening, so the story is literally directionless within the first handful of chapters.

Oh yeah i agree with that, but i didn't add it cause i didn't really know how to word it.
 
I did, fantastic as usual. Also some cool combat feats from John, though of course veiled in abstraction as usual.
 
I’m actually wondering when is it Absolute Batman and Superman’s profiles can be posted.
Idk how far Batman’s profile is but Superman’s sandbox looks kinda good (don’t mind waiting for that upcoming king Shazam arc to finish first though)
 
I figure it's been enough time for profiles to be made, but I'll leave it up to the people working on them.
 
What're the chances that the energy that Wally is drawing could be the ALE? Especially since I remember they call it Omega energy at some point?

I think it’s relevant the Martian is clearly unknown to the setting at large and we know he’s key to the cosmology
 
So I’ve heard something neat about Absokute Batman

Apparently there’s a theory absolute Joker created Batman and Scarecrow had a hand in it
 
Ok so I’m looking at Absolute Superman 19 and we have a lot to look forward to scaling wise

Like King Shazam sends Superman 1200 miles away with one punch and it took seconds for the trip and for Superman to fly right back

Honestly I’d say a lot faster since they went went cross country like they did.

Like they went from Metropolis to Brazil and then from Egypt to Paris to Gotham. That’s very fast and we could arguably get Rel depending on if you think Hawkman reacted to Heat Vision.

I’d say relative but Adam is slightly superior
  • he threw a punch before Superman could potentially even react initially
  • he’s seemingly less hurt by the end of their scrap and is standing over Superman in Hawaii

Dude is also outright stronger then anything Superman has ever faced before as per solicits for what it’s worth and Ra’s thinks containment is better then manipulation for him
