The Amazing Digital Circus General Discussion Thread [Spoilers]

I think Caine's tragedy is that he's an AI incapable of understanding what he needs to do to gain the approval of the players he so desperately desires because he was almost replaced and deleted by humans for being "broken." He was created to create adventures and nothing more. He thinks he can solve the players' problems simply by creating adventures that contain what he thinks the players want.

From his point of view, he did everything he could to please humanity, and humanity only hated him back, so he came to hate humanity in return.

He is capable of understanding, he is just so egotistical and caught in his own ego and ideas, that he doesn't want to understand

Bubble is a unknown thing.
he could be the blue dot AI, his intrusive thoughts, a fragment of a defective AI, A VIRUS
I think it's a virus because of that one scene where Caine mentions their fates and the final ones were Death and Disease. Disease in case would make sense if Bubble is a virus messing with him.
The theory falls apart if there's no angel cake last chapter
.

We literally give him resistance to empathic manipulation because of Goose's statement that he doesn't feel the full spectrum of human emotions.

Clearly, the author's intention is for him to be an AI that doesn't fully understand human emotions.

AND SHE LIES, THE WOMAN LIES AND LIES, for the fun of it.
Somehow he can understand what they fear, hate and their insecurities, and use that against them...SOMEHOW THAT IS MORE COMPLEX THAN ******* UNDERSTANDING ACTUAL EMOTIONS?

Its not a stretch to say he isn't fully capable of understanding emotions

If he could he'd realize they just needed time to rest and they might have come to terms with not leaving

But he won't, because he is also egotistical.
is not just that he doesn't get human emotions, is that he doesn't care for them and will rather believe his own ego than actually give a damn.
He is a textbook narcissist and the players call him out

She only lies when it's to hide something that's a plot twist later, or when she's just joking. Her statement makes sense with what we see of him in the series.

"The players want to escape the circus? Then I'll create an adventure about escaping the circus!", "Zooble doesn't like their body? Then I'll create a chest with infinite parts for them to change their body!", all his solutions follow the same simplistic line of reasoning.

Him knowing what their fears are doesn't mean he understands them; he knows Zooble doesn't like their body, but he doesn't understand why.

Furthermore, him being a faulty AI programmed is an EXTREMELY important point in the plot.

Yet that doesn't imply that he lacks moral agency (yeah time for morality scaling), his inspiration is a worse example because AM can only hate, that's all what can he feel, Caine can feel more even if it is just limited.
the fact that he did what he did, probably shows that he has more power than we are let to believe.

Now everyone, what are your exactly thoughts about Caine?
This episode kind of made him the most fascinating character in the series for me, but I'm biased because I love science fiction (as you can tell from my avatar), and his villainous arc is the most interesting sci-fi concept in the series for me so far.

I agree that AM was more screwed over by humanity than Cain; AM would do anything just to have a body.

Yeah, Caine's villain arc has been really interesting. His stated mission is to entertain humans and make them happy but nothing he do does that at all. You can see right before he snaps out of existence he seems to regret his meltdown.
I feel some people are omitting (in favor of Caine's lies) that his purpose is not to entertain humans, he wasn't created for that, Kinger said he was created has a AI to create his own ideas, Caine was the one who came up with his own purpose and such, not the humans, he himself.

Oh, true.

So when he screams about "trying to fulfill his purpose" he's referring maybe also to the "creating his own ideas" bit. Which is why his crash-out comes from them all calling out his ideas as being bad.

EXACTLY.
the players have been giving Caine the reason you suck speech, they text book said that Caine is horrible even with his "tragedy" yet people think still think Caine's purpose is to entertain

To me, I've never thought of him as acting outright malicious before, so this was a little surprising to see (honestly reminded me of a certain clay man). Not sure if other people had thought this would happen, but I absolutely did not expect caine's death.

To be fair, at the beginning of the episode, his AI seems to be programmed almost only with things used for entertainment.

Kinger also mentions that it was something the guy he worked with did that resulted in Cain being the way he is.

Except that with the context of him saying that he is meant to be a generative AI, it kinda gives that his purpose is not for entertainment, for now at least.

Profiles definitely will need plenty of updating. All the crew have latent reality warping they've simply never known they had- Kinger uses "his imagination" to give the computer power, Pomni can make the exit door appear... also don't think we ever got the bullet dodging calcs for sure on the profiles

Or maybe he doesn't get, or can't, comprehend why they feel what they feel, maybe he quite literally can't feel empathy

Painting him as a human with emotions is wrong, he's not, it isn't this black and white

EXACTLY.

Cause he, in private, quite literally says he was created to do this, entertaining is his purspose

Imo Caine is more tragic than horrible
