I got bored and made a calculator

I am not the right person to ask regarding calculations and related matters. For what it's worth, however, I'm quite happy to see such a tool being developed, and I hope along with the rest of the staff that this can streamline the process of calculations in the future. As long as the Calc Group doesn't have any issue with the variables included in the calculator, and there are no other types of bugs to report, I'd be happy seeing this implemented on the wiki in some official fashion.

I think it'll be great to use. One consideration I have for the future is that I don't want people to use it as an excuse to avoid showing their work. Like "Here's the values we start with, I used the calculator and got this result for it."

Users making calculation blogs still need to show the steps they followed through for the ease of people evaluating and anyone else checking out the calc down the road.
Yes. Strongly agreed. People will still need to show their process within their calculation blogs.
As I said prior to the thread being made: this looks like a fantastic addition. Agree with others that work still needs to be shown (perhaps this is obvious) but it is my hope that this smooths over a lot of wrinkles.

@Antvasima @AKM sama

Pinging you two to say that I feel that, if accepted, this should be given a highlight thread, and featured prominently somehow. Calculations can be made a lot simpler for a lot of users thanks to this.
Yes. This seems like a great addition, and we would need to add it to our wiki navigation toolbar and link to it in appropriate calculation instruction pages. However, I would prefer if @DontTalkDT , @Executor_N0 , and @Ultima_Reality take a look at if it functions properly first.

Thanks a massive lot to M3X for this initiative to help our community. How stable is the host for this? Will the calculator last for many years or is there a risk that it is suddenly shut down or hacked at some point? 🙏

The app is hosted on Vercel, which is a widely used and stable hosting platform for web applications (used by many production projects, including large ones). For a hobby project like this, it’s expected to remain online indefinitely as long as it stays within the free plan limits. There’s no expiration just for being hosted “too long”.

That said, no online service can be guaranteed to last forever. Any platform could theoretically change policies, have outages, or shut down services in the distant future. However, the risk of the app being suddenly taken down is low, and the code can always be redeployed elsewhere if needed.

In terms of security, the app doesn’t handle sensitive user data, and Vercel provides HTTPS and standard infrastructure security by default, which significantly reduces risk.

Though some tweaking as well as plenty more niche methods such as rotational KE and units such as Ronnatons and Quettatons would be helpful yes.
As far as this goes M3X is working on some QoL features and updating it with more stuff so we will be able to expect that stuff as well

Okay. That is good then. Thanks a lot again for your help.

Would you be interested in regaining your old staff position? 🙏❤️

I developed a web app that helps people calculate feats and quickly pixel-scale scans.

https://vs-calc.vercel.app/

The web app has a number of features and modules for nearly every type of calculation we do. It also follows our standard formulas. I’m looking for people to use it and provide feedback, such as bug testing and accuracy checks.

I got permission to post a staff thread from both @Dalesean027 and @KingTempest and they also suggested that I try to see if we can get an “official approval” to add it to pages and similar resources.
THIS IS REVOLUTIONARY!

Would that have been even better, or is your current project sufficiently good for your purposes? 🙏
Both work wonders, there’s plenty of hosting services like Vercel, Railway is just another one, so is Render. The only drawback is having the “vercel.app” in the URL, but the only way to change it is buying a domain name.

Okay. No problem then. 🙏

Looks like good work, smells like good work, tastes like good work, It is good work.

Good job, M3X! I inspected the site and it looks great for the most part. Actually insane, even, considering you did this alone.

Nullflowerblush asked to be allowed to post here that:

"The energy converter does not accept scientific notation form."

Is this still a problem? 🙏

Second question is thus this. Is there an easy way to add/replace/remove calc methods and values in the case of things getting outdated?

@Antvasima Should we close this thread now? We've got unanimous support from staff and calc group members, and I wanted to create an official thread for questions, suggestions and bug report.
Well, we still need to add links and explanations to this new resource to appropriate wiki pages, and help with that would be very appreciated. 🙏

I think it should be added to the Calculations page with the following:

Official Calculation Tool Guideline

To make calculations easier while maintaining accuracy, an official tool developed specifically for the VS Battles Wiki is available for use. This tool follows the same calculation standards adopted by the wiki and is intended to promote consistency, reliability, and transparency in calculations. It is primarily designed for standard, formula-based calculations commonly used across the wiki.

When using the tool, users are expected to clearly present the full calculation process. This can be done in one of the following ways:
  • Using the print function to copy and paste the calculation steps into a calculation blog or relevant page;
  • Providing a screenshot of the results generated by the tool;
  • Manually writing out each step of the calculation in full.
The accuracy of any calculation remains the responsibility of the user, including the correctness of inputs, assumptions, and source material. All values, units, and assumptions used in the tool should be clearly presented and verifiable.

Manual calculations that follow the wiki’s established standards are equally valid and acceptable. The use of the tool does not replace proper reasoning, sourcing, or adherence to existing calculation guidelines.

As formulas, standards, or methodologies may be updated over time, users are encouraged to verify results against the most recent wiki guidelines. Users are also encouraged to report bugs, inconsistencies, or accuracy concerns to support ongoing improvements to the tool.
