Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Discussion

these aint real black holes
I mean they are called black holes, when
Painter Renoir
uses them, they show blackhole effects of pulling in all matter before they are parried or dodged. And just because it is made from Chroma doesn’t make it any less real, especially since the
Canvas is an entirely separate universe with its own laws of physics.

Black holes do not do or look like what they do in the game. + Physically destroying one is considered an anti-feat unless your evidence is way too explicit

I have just completed Expedition 33!

I bought the game on Friday just so y'all know how locked in I was. 💀

Absolutely peak. Deserved every award.

The ending decision is so foul. Both choices had so much weight behind them that I had no idea which the choose. Both of them also make you hate yourself afterwards 😭 literally can't win

I love how this develops from a pretty straightforward dark fantasy into one of the most complex narratives I've ever seen (definitely in the realm of gaming).

10/10. Possibly the best thing I've experienced in the entire year. Including all books, games, anime, etc.

So glad I went into this game literally knowing nothing. Having not seen even a single cutscene or even the gameplay nor watching the game awards lol.

I only actually played the game cause I bought it as a gift for my friend cause he heard he wanted it

I downloaded it just to see how it would run on my computer but I ended up getting hooked so fast that I played the entire thing 😭

Yeah bro if I tried to do that on my computer I'd recreate and surpass the bombings of WWII

Dang :/

I have a pretty mid build

4060 ti 16gb and i7 13th gen

Game ran very good. High graphics, 1440p, consistently 80-100fps

I have a Dell LMAO

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6300U CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.50 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.89 GB usable)
Storage 238 GB SSD TOSHIBA THNSNK256GVN8 M.2 2280 256GB
Graphics Card Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 (128 MB)

I was Unsure if I was gonna like the turned based stuff but it was pretty good.

The best game I played this year is still Witcher 3 by a huge margin, I would even say it's the best game I have ever played (Yes I know I am 10 years late) followed by Kingdom 1 and 2 (I played them both almost Back to back) and third place is Clair Obscur.

I am still salty about KCD losing RPG award to Clair Obscur. That one KCD should have won.

I wouldn't call that mid. 4060ti alone is the price of my entire pc.

Damn. That's brutal buddy.

Unfortunate. PC prices are only going to get worse in the future.

Nvidia is cutting GPU production. Ram prices are absurd and ungodly. AI probably going to cause even more price inflation.

DEbating whether or not I should just upgrade my GPU right now to avoid a future spike.

I want to upgrade too but with the money I had I decided to upgrade my CPU first.

Poor thing was running on a Ryzen 3 3220G, finally got a Ryzen 7 5800XT.

With Nvidia going towards AI, I think AMD may be the only feasible option for cards.

Definitely some form of EE since they are being erased "gommage" in french literally means to erase or scrub so yeah they are being erased from the canvas
And in the Renoir fight when he erases People iirc it says « Sciel a été gommée de l’existence »

Which means erased from existence

The characters get ridiculously powerful.

Gonna spoil my rambling just in case ig.

I am even thinking that the real world Dessendre family is 1-A. Obvious R>F gap. Uncertain if anything else scales though. The worlds are just... canvases, made from ink and imagination in the real world. So via Reality Equalization they would be 1-A relative to Verso's canvas.

Game characters can maybe range up to 4-A/Low 2-C via starry sky or the canvas being a universe? donno. I believe it is said that Maelle has the power to reshape the entire world. Should also be comparable to her parents in that regard, though they are greatly weakened. MGQ mentioned that they'd also have 5-B scaling through osquio. (I can not verify since I am not high enough level yet to face Verso's Draft lol)

Btw the Gommage/Unpainting could potentially be some kind of concept erasure as it involves getting rid of someone's "essence." Which Verso seems to infer is something more intrinsic than verisimilitude, which is the "truth of who they are." Not sure if there are any other specifics involving it though.

Everyone pretty much has resurrection, immortality, regeneration, etc with pictos/luminas as well. Dessendres probably have 1-A immortality? As they can just come back into the canvases at will from the real world. Seen with Aline in the final battle. Verso even says that Maelle "Could always come back," if Verso's canvas isn't to be destroyed, of course.

The canvas should be universal since it's suppose to be a mirror of the real world since it's painted to be a reflection of it and is called a universe multiple times and obviously goes beyond the scope of a simple planet

IIRC, exiting the painting realm and confronting the painter is kind of an anti-feat against 1-A scaling. But creating/destroying them with ease should be Low 2-C minimum

Hm? I do not think they ever actually exited the canvas ? If you are referring to Verso confronting (real) Verso in the ending.

The real world Desseandre family are just normal humans. Verso died to a fire and Alicia can't do anything about her injuries. It's like the Matrix.

The hax though especially for Painters go crazy.

This doesn't matter as through Reality Equalization their world is still more real than the canvas worlds. them taking damage by a fire in that layer of reality thus isn't relevant to what tier they are. Also, they clearly aren't normal humans if they can create entire universes and enter them with their painting abilities lol.

Well I would consider it more akin to be a really immersive video game.

Also the Painting is a mental space. It's not like Narnia where they are physically entering the dimension. No physical mass enters the canvas and more importantly no mass can get out of the canvas. Because it doesn't have any.

It's basically coding done by Chroma. A Matrix.

Precisely why they are 1-A. A really immersive video game is still fiction relative to reality. There's not any real anti-feats I can think of for it either. The worlds are just ink and imagination compared to their layer of existence.

I recently was gifted E33, and I have been really enjoying the game. I'm very closed to 100% in terms of getting all of the achievements, which has been fun. I understand why the game was so hyped and received so many rewards after its launch, it is a fantastic game, across all metrics.

It would be nice to see the verse indexed eventually. I'll help with discussions and, if I have the time, creating profiles as well.

I been playing Escape from Ever After; probably the best Paper Mario inspired RPG to date. But given the story and lore details; it does have a lot in common with CO:E33 in terms of how the cosmology works and what not. Though instead of paintings it's all about storybooks being universes. Which is among the reasons I brought it up; but it's also consistent with the trend of Indie developed games seem to keep getting better as AAA gaming seems to be getting worse.

I picked up the few remaining achievements I needed to complete the game. All I have left are the Super Bosses, which I will deal with later. I plan on saving those when I have time with a friend of mine, so he can watch me suffer as I slam my head against those fights over and over again.

In Act 3 Renoir summons the Axons to help in his fight, and during this the Paintress arrives and starts attacking them, in which they survive a few attacks. Would we consider the Axons that Renoir summons to be stronger than the ones from Act 2 or would we consider them to be at the same power and they scale to the paintress from the start?.

Would the Gommage also be Transmutation due to you turning into petals when you homage? And is it layered, (along with the painted Dessandre Family having layered resistances to it)? For example expedition 60 were apparently able to just brute force through the barrier that protects the monolith, and then of course were gommaged when the time counted down.
Also doesn't Simon straight up remove your party from the canvas, only for them to come back in the defeat cutscene, or would we consider it different due to it being able to remove Verso, who cant standardly be gommaged?

I think that's just an aesthetic flair to it rather than transmutation. Layered EE is probably pretty solid from what I remember. Especially when people who are suppose to be immortal cant be gommaged in the room with real Verso's soul manifestation but can still be gommaged by painter powers and simons ability

Them being removed from the canvas isn't canon but Simon having that ability to erase them is canon if that makes sense

Yeah, it would. It is through her Paintress powers, which allows her to manipulate the reality and fundamental composition of the Canvas--that would be classified as Reality Warping.

I see, she really did not use it effectively, huh. Opening up reality to throw 6 projectiles at my enemy.
I do wonder if Esquie is stronger than the paintress from that though, at least physically. He was tanking those hits with literally no damage.

It is what it is. As for Esquie, I don't recall where his exact place in the scaling is. I know he is one of the strongest characters in the series, I do remember that being stated. But I don't remember anything else. It might be the case he is stronger than the Paintress, I wouldn't be surprised.

Vibe wise he probably scales to Osquio his evil cousin which is up there in endgame tbh.
