Superman (2025) Movie Spoiler Discussion Thread

Man of Steel fan here, I'm not going to say the movie is perfect but what it does goes is stellar to me. Cavill was awesome as Superman, the music is fantastic, the cast is amazing, Zod is incredible both in motives, design and personality (Shannon is just ridiculously good), the imagery and visuals are great, the CGI are spectacular and above everything else, the fighting scenes are just absurd. As in, absurdly good. They're some of the best fighting scenes in anything to me. To this day this movie is one of the only ones where I have the raw feeling and scale of absolute, catastrophic destruction two superpowered beings fighting each other would cause. The only other movie I can think of that, no matter the flaws in story or anything, manages to recapture this sense of apocalyptic destruction is Transformers Dark Side of the Moon with the battle of Chicago. You can TASTE the end of the world and the raw destruction and power in a way no other movie has accomplished for me. It's an orgy of pure devastation no movie, not even the likes of Infinity War or Endgame, has managed to replicate for now. Even the lower scale scenes like against Faora are just incredible and deliver power like nowhere else. It doesn't magically erase its problems (the pacing, the brief parts of humor that really don't work, the characterization for some characters and the drowning kids) but still.

And I'll admit, while he definitely isn't perfect, I've grown to hold a degree of contempt the Snyder hate since I feel it just became gratuitous and hate for the sake of hate to the point of inventing stuff (like how he's supposedly a neo nazi) and it goes way too far sometimes (like that tiny incident where Snyder haters MOCKED THE FACT HIS DAUGHTER KILLED HERSELF BY SAYING IT'S ALL HIS FAULT and she DESERVED IT because she was his daughter and even made MEMES from it and send them to him. I don't care what you think of Snyder and I don't care how bad his movies are, if you do that, you're just a massive piece of shit who deserves to be punched). Again, I have my own problems with Snyder and I mercilessly pick apart what I think is bad in his movies (like basically everything in Rebel Moon) and his cultists are definitely shitty people (not fans, cultists and they definitely fit the definition to me) but his haters are no better. At all.
the Snyder hate has definitely gotten out of control at times and I agree that anyone claiming things about his character or making fun of his daughter's death is stupid and evil.

but going back to Man of Steel, I agree about Shannon's Zod and the music and I do like Jor-El as well but I think Cavill's Clark had the personality of cardboard and the action wasn't my thing

I’ll have a bit more free time in the coming weeks, so I’m planning on going back through the show and getting the profiles done soon.
Nice, yeah after I finish superman stuffs I can help but tbh all the relevant creature commandos calcs are done anyways I believe so we should be able to just fly through making profiles

Just want to clarify that hasn’t broken even yet. Advertisement and the money the theaters get for showing the movie means it has to make nearly three times its budget to actually just start to profit (and with how much Superman is playing at theaters likely even more here). I hope it succeeds but it isn’t yet.

Like this movie is the definition of mixed for me, but a cheerful world for the new DCU is infinitely better than dower Superman. What a waste of Henry

I'm we're still in the first week not even a full 5 days so like 🤷‍♂️

If it keeps up at the same pace by the end of next week it should be fine, it only needs like 600~800 to be profiting which if the numbers are indication to go should be progressing a rate as good if not better than The Batman 2022.

Like I don't expect any movie to break even in less than a week lol

The internet are my comment. Pretty much fingers crossed, thunderbolts showed movies can lose steam fast

One is the Thunderbolts the other is Superman, one did not have nearly as hig as a marketing push or spotlight🤷‍♂️ so like honestly we're chilling ***** gonna break 300m by the end of tomorrow and keep going especially considering people are going back for rewatches on this

To clarify I don’t even like thunderbolts, just meant it is an example of how a big movie can hit its listed budget instantly then promptly die. Captain America brave new world did that too. I believe Superman will make its budget, but it being out globally for a week and only making 270 million surprised me greatly

It hasn't been out for a week...it hasn't even been out a full 5 days..

It was out in Mexico last Wednesday. That’s how my Mexican friend saw it.
They had tickets to an early screening then, the films release date is July 11th which was friday

That might as well mean the movie was out because those early screenings were everywhere for everyday. Like my friend missed Wednesday for the movie and still watched it Thursday. Meaning they were playing it across the country for multiple days. Though I don’t mean to be a downer. Circling back to the main point I just wanted to clarify with that original tweet it’s not a victory yet, not even close.

For the action aside from the destruction being amazing, the main reason why I love it so much is because it really makes the general atmosphere of the scene palatable, like I can really feel it like I was almost there. That's something that really speaks to me when a movie or a show manages to make a scene where I can really feel the atmosphere it wants to convey with every fiber of my body and brain (yeah, going to be dramatic over there).

To give other examples, the Pirates of the Carribean movies do that really well to, including On Stranger Tides and Dead Men Tell No Tales so I just can't hate them even when I know they're not good but At World's End in particular manages to bring that feeling. There's this one scene notably in the first half of the movie when you have a ship slowly travelling between giant iceberg with a dramatic but quite soundtrack. It's one of my favorite scenes in all movies because it's extremely simple but you can just feel the isolation, the mysteries, the uncertainity and some quite form of determination for the men sailing there. Everytime I watch this scene, beyond seeing the characters and the plot, I feel like I'm in the middle of nowhere traveling to somewhere unknown. Later in the movie, there's a small bit of that same ship travelling at night on a sea so black it reflects the stars in the night sky, giving off the impression it is sailing the sky itself and it's the same thing.

Similary, of the three Dark Knight movies, my favorite is The Dark Knight Rises because of its atmosphere of sheer desperation, the constant feeling that Gotham is slowly giving up even if it maintains appearences, the eerie idea of quite, unspoken acceptance of failing.

Bottom line, beyond the spectacular destruction, Man of Steel makes me feel its devastation, the danger, the raw power of its combattants and I love it.

I mean sure ig

Also higher than what was thought apparently, thursday and friday will definitely get it past 350m probably at 400m at this rate

#Supershit's knock-off cousin couldn't do a thing to Sexy Lexy
in-superman-2025-lex-luthor-has-a-bunch-of-monkeys-posting-v0-2isef1vh7ocf1.jpeg

I think our current scaling chain would be something like this
3-As: Luthor with technology (recreated the Big Bang)
Whatever tier Metamorpho's creation is: Metamorpho (created a miniature sun)
8-Bs: Ultraman>Superman (Got knocked around the globe)>~Kaiju's Durability/Krypto
8-Cs: Amped Metallo (Threw a metal sphere)>Justice Gang>Kaiju Fire Breath (This large)>Kaiju A.P (Via size)
Lex would have L2-C Environmental Destruction, there’s dialogue in the movie that says that the fabric of space was weakening and allowing the pocket dimension to leak through IIRC.

Thats more of an overtime thing

It doesn’t matter, weakening the fabric of space-time such that different universes would come together is L2-C at minimum, even if it would take time (see Buuhan for an example).

I also think the statement of replicating the Big Bang is just talking about simulating the initial conditions of the early universe through particle collision. Still, creating a black hole from that much energy wouldn’t be something to scoff at.

had to drop fusion since that wouldn't work apparently so Metamorpho can really only scale to the radiated energy of the star after its creation which only equals out to 9-A amounts of energy since he does actively sustain the star until he has Superman somewhat restored, I attempted several avenues but this is all that was accepted after consulting several staff so rip there

8-B+ seems to be where we cap so no real other avenues for now which sure that's fine

Well, at least 9-A for Metamorpho's sun is consistent with him being able to smash a tank (and that still seems to put him above almost everyone in the Creature Commandos series).

I guess there's still the matter of where the Mr. Terrific (physically)/Raptors/Superman (kryptonite weakened) scaling chain would be tiered at.

Do we really need a Lex page? Why not make one for Luthorcorp instead? We don't have evidence Lex replicated the big bang all by himself

So, I have an important question... The Superman is "Strongest of all Metahumans" statements, it's only for those who are known in that or have appeared within that 300 year span? It wouldn't apply to any "New" Metahuman post this movies Timeline or anyone who existed before but never revealed themselves until post this movies timeline?

Example: (1) Wonder Woman, if she hasn't revealed herself in that 300 timespan where Metahumans are known to exist until after the Movies timeline, Superman wouldn't "Automatically" scale over her. (2) Any new Metahuman created or developed powers after this movies timeline, wouldn't "automatically" have Clark scale over them.

Think it just depends on the context like if a new goon is introduced who directly interacts with Superman and just dogwalks him then like sure ofc but for like most 90% of goons they'll probably just downscale Superman or at most I could see eventually a statement of someone rivaling Superman but that would still scale to him then, besides im sure this question would pop up if anything like that were to happen if someone showed up with big feats or notable status anyways.

Really just a case by case basis because well inevitably see what the character is about and kinda where their scaling lies in whatever projects they are introduced in. We can likely exclude beings not on earth though unless we have further context for them

No, of course, it's just, given the Nature of these movies, say we get a movie that takes place post Superman Events and a new metahuman showcases better feats but Supes isn't in the movie. We aren't going to try and retroactively scale Supes from them sans context, just bc of the statement, no?

Do you mean the events of the movie as a whole? Because outside of that WoG also says Superman is the most powerful being on the planet so like I said unless there's specifc circumstances or scaling that would lead to some other situation then it would normally fall under him scaling

Yes, post the events of the movie.

That's what I mean, so if WoG states that, then even someone like WW would then fall under that. But post the events of Superman, in a new movie or show later on, if a Brand New Metahuman or entity is showcased that didn't exist before (Example, let's say hypothetically, Nathaniel Adam doesn't become "Captain Atom" until after the events of Superman. Doesn't get those powers, etc.) but showcases some level of feat that is better than what Supes showed being able to do (Yet) or has a calc superior to what Supes scales to, then would those statements retroactively attempt to scale him over them? Or would they fall out of the purview of those statements being 1, they never existed within that 300 year time, and appear well after the WoG Statement.

Hopefully that makes sense.
