Devil May Cry Discussion Thread

Giving them their heads when the entire point of their design is their heads are in their swords is still a stupid decision. If you’re not going to adapt the most basic part of their designs then use some other demons.
Eh, that is barely a big deal, once again, they probably did it to give them more expressions, its like, an inoffensive change '-'

Implying they weren’t already expressive enough from how they were in the games. They’re literally the devil arms in DMC 3 with the most personality and character.

Can't have a lot of facial expressions without having heads '-'. I also personally prefer Beowulf and Nevan, possibly because of the fight themselves as you kinda that just skip the cutscenes after having played for a long while '-'

You literally do not need facial expressions to convey character or personality. Agni and Rudra in the games are prime examples of that when their heads literally had static motion and yet their brief talk with Dante is one of the more entertaining talks he has in the game. Hell even in Star Wars C-3PO and R2-D2 don’t have facial expressions at all and people still enjoy their characters.

Not saying you need, just a guess as to why the peeps making the show decided to give them heads, as, once again, it would be cheaper if they didn't had them

It does make me wonder how much of the budget was spent on the animation compared to getting the licensed songs for the series.
Yeah, it feels like something a lot of series do. Rolling grew on me, Last Resort fitted the highway scene, but that's about it imo, and even then, using original music from/inspired by the games would've been better. (Not sure if I should count Afterlife here considering it was made for the series, it's also a banger)

At the very least the VA doesn't use expensive actors like Invincible but its like what other people said, the budget likely wouldn't have gone to the animation

We can all agree at least that Afterlife is Peak right?

Oh yeah, you guys got a really good opening.

The Netflixvania one is so bad and boring that it doesn't even show up anymore.
Opening is Rolling by Limp biskit, After life is a song that was made for the series that tunned in on episode 6 and briefly on episode 7... It is unfortunate neither of the Castlevania series have a good opening, they are barely there

Honestly it isn't peak.

I would say it is in the top 10, way below things like Fire Inside and Devils Never Cry. Lower if we include OSTs that lack vocals.
What would be your top 10?

I think mine would look like this:

1. Devil Trigger
2. Fire Inside
3. Devils Never Cry (HM/HR arrange if it is official, if isn't, still 3rd place)
4. Suffer (Cerberus and not Beowulf)
5. After Life
6. Bury the Light
7. Science Will Never Die
8. Roar, Roar, Roar!!
9. Legacy
10. Resolve

Not counting Silver Bullet as it is just a remix of Devil Trigger

Foolish to not put The Storm Himself in No. 1.
Bury the Light feels way too long tbh, not that I think any part of the song is bad, I just think it goes on for too long, has too many buildups, ironically I really can't see it being shortened as well '-'

Surprised Vergil Battle 2 wasn’t in Tony’s non-vocal list. Also, the DMC pachinko vocal tracks are massively underrated. Devil Moon, Dream Out Loud, Bringing You Back, Devil Bringer, etc.

I'm serious, most of the songs in 4 are just gibberish and hard to understand lyrics that never make much sense

Speak yo shit indeed my brother

Don't be so extreme. DMC4 is mid, gameplay is pretty good and some would say it's the best thanks to the mechanics.

The DMC 4 story, gameplay are better than DMC2 while DMC2 has better ost, designs.
Where would you rank Reboot Devil May cry (2013) OST/musics?

Reboot Dante gameplay wise feels like a nice middle ground of not being too difficult like 4/5 Dante, but not as braindead as Vergil, while having enough variety in the various weapons that it makes you feel you are performing really cool combo to almost the same degree as 4/5 Dante

I never had any fun with the reboot, it was just a brainless "I gotta clear this or my resume will look bad" gameplay. Colors, lines, dialogue, and pretty meh to bad gameplay just took any interest I had and I just 100% it to say I was able to do it.

bad gameplay
Bad gameplay? I don't think you should say this when the fundamentals of the game is similar to previous DMC games if not the same. The only mockery I have for the combat is the color coded enemies which the Definitive Edition fixed. I wish it was ported to PC, but oh well mods can suffice ig.

The colors of the game does look bad at times, the primary example of this is Mission 13, good lord the disco light colors were ass, but the setting of Limbo allows for quite the dynamic stage design and the colors can really pop off imo.

The ideas are the same but the combos aren't satisfying to pull off since it's very easy, aereal combos are one button away and the need to specifically deal with enemies using certain weapons made it boring. I had so many instances of fighting the color coded enemies and my attacks would just bounce and let me open because the other color comes while I'm doing a combo.

The definitive edition doesn't really do much, the only thing it did was take the bounce out but enemies take much less damage if you don't use the right color weapon and from what I remember they couldn't be staggered either.
