Pokemon Discussion Thread - Red & Blue arc

I feel like it might be fair to give average intelligence just because they are incompetent at they job doesn't mean they are stupid in general. They just lack some of the knowledge and experience expected for their job. They are some of the first trainers.

I would also suggest trying to hunt down a list of Pokemon some of the trainers have just so we have some idea what they can do with Pokemon

I've tried various ways before to get them to Average Intelligence, but there are a lot less feats in PLA than you'd think, much less intelligence feats. Professor Laventon is quite honestly the only smart one.

I think they mean the Galaxy Team members, since presumably at least some of them have predetermined teams, & they aren't likely to change mons much, given most in-game NPCs rarely change their teams much other than evolutionary stage & level, much less in PL:A, where the majority are (more so than the present.) amateurs & wary of wild Pokemon.

The list of specific Pokemon a single person has would normally go in a profile for them specifically, like with Roxanne's profile.

No, i don't think its likely (and even if its likely, its not confirmed so its a bare assumption) that the player character 'canonically' used their Space/Time God in a sparring/friendly match just because you have the choice to use the legendary as a player choice.

Ppl taking whole ass separate playthroughs as canon instead of trying stick to the what the storyline is the same as is the weird part. Whats so special about the player character if anyone in Galaxy Team can just 'take on Tier 2 level pokemon'. Why are they the only ones capable of saving everyone?

It's just backwards scaling that holds no ground other than the reliance of game mechanics, in that NPCs you fight have the capability to injure your pokemon. So do random Wild pokemon. We shouldn't be relying on that when we're talking abt separate individual playthroughs, cause then you can get stuff like Kricketot being Tier 2 which is just openly insane.

Yeah, the protag canonically 'fights' the Legendaries (or at least just...throws some calming balms at them) so they're fine to scale. Not every RPG narrative wise is then gonna have anyone that you can openly battle if you choose to, based on a game-levelling system thats never properly canonized as an actual thing, scale to the literal Creator of the Universe or smthn.

If you include Rei and Akira in Galaxy Team then sure, but the page openly does not include them for whatever reason, despite literally being the MVP. Literally, even Volo can scale to Tier 2 sure, but literally any character for having a post-game team that you can choose to fight should not be considered.

Plus its never a point that Rei/Akira had actually, canonically struggled beating any of them while using a legendary either. Like its just very weird scaling to put literally the NPC randoms you can choose to have a battle with scaled to the literal Gods they were worshipping and reliant on YOU to defeat.

I mean the player had to ability to hold their own even without using Pokemon. They also aren't even necessarily the only one qualified just one that was the most qualified. It doesn't even have to be a legendary (although there are like 6 legendary in that game that scale and regigigas who probably should scale as the legendary with probably the most feats featuring them being comparable to the creation trio) even normal Pokemon who helped fight the creation trio on the team.

But this takes place after that, the power of friendship in universe has brought tier 7s to tiers such a jump isn't impossible.

Okay cool, and the player was obv the strongest character in Galaxy Team and the saviour they all relied on. Let alone those boss battles literally just being ways to calm the Pokemon down as opposed to actually 'beating' them for real. We are ALSO not saying that they physically scale to Pokemon, given this is the same game where you can die to Wild Pokemon lmao. Dont even try

They ARE the only one qualified since quite literlaly no one else was able to step up. Arceus quite literally CHOSE them for this whole game. Theres no one else on par. Only character that has proper scaling to the Tier 2 stuff is Volo for using Giratina.

Once again, theres no proof that the player struggled or took any actual 'damage' using their Tier 2 levels of strength (That in context, only comes from the legendaries they caught properly). So Why exactly are we trying to give Team Galaxy this just for being postgame content? (It's not like the game is trying to put them at a level beyond Palkia/Dialga/Other Legendaries just because they're postgame).

You're just making headcanons then? This doesnt even answer the point. Wheres the canon proof that Rei/Akira struggled against ANY of these NPC characters? Let alone that they used Dialga/Palkia for something so casual. Huge overkill thats out of context. Boss battles in this game are literally you throwing balms to calm the Pokemon down, while you battle to stun them for a second or smthn

Feels like people will ONLY accept the Tier 2 because it makes them look stronger. Its so disingenuine

Irida fights Origin form Palkia and she is stated to have held her own. You only unlock access to the path of tenacity against the against the Pearl clan after that and looking at bulbapedia the later battles with galaxy team consist of stronger Pokemon.

Is that enough evidence.

I don't give a **** about my characters' tiers, I've done things I heavily dislike several times for the sake of it being consistent

If only a better character than Irida could've proved this, but that's the issue of interacting with a game like PLA.

There's also literally every time the main trainer fights a legendary pokemon in literally every game, many of these being mandatory fights that can't be avoided and are done with no assistance like Ultra Necrozma, the aforementioned Origins Dialga/Palkia fight, the Volo Giratina fight and more. Back in the day we called it an outlier and ignored it but back in the day were were somewhat stupider than we are now. As Cal said before, it's a JRPG, the protagonist going from random dude off the street to 2-A god slayer is as common in jrpgs as it gets and Pokemon shouldn't be an exception.

The sooner people accept widespread Tier 2 Pokemon, the better; and the sooner we can fulfill our golden dreams for the verse.
 
My personal ideal is to never scale Pokemon cause in reality all pokemon regardless of evo stage vary in power from the lowest tier we have to the highest for normal mons and we just ain't got the balls to scale them that way.
 
Anyways I've gotten around to watch Poketoons and I gotta say it's genuinely peak fiction. I don't understand why the main Pokemon anime can't have that budget.
