Heaven's Dogma (RP Thread)

"Ahem.", Taiga announced his presence while standing by the entrance of the storage room.

"You're done doing business yet? The others are looking for us."
Nimah casually ran her fingers along the grimy mix of currency she had collected from her client — a hodgepodge collection of rough pieces of gold and antique coins — feeling their contours and mulling over whether or not they were counterfeit. They seemed genuine enough; he probably drudged it from the acid sea before she came or perhaps had it on his person before being swallowed. Regardless, it was more than enough to get herself a proper meal. She had almost ignored the man in her contemplation, glancing up and flashing him a dull smile.

"There ain't'a reason for me to be on call, lest we leavin'." She said plainly. "Somethin' happen?"

"Of course. Anything is possible, but the odds of success depend on who we're dealing with today.", he said while quickly putting all of his stuff back in his suitcase and taking out a... normal looking wooden cane.

"Let's go now. We're gathering everyone as you suggested.", the man said as he stood up from the floor.
"R-right...!" Aurum said, a small smile on her face as she took one last look of the area around her, a bit of sadness in her eyes knowing the bloodshed there would be here soon

"I don't know. Big bro just said that we should watch our backs and come back to him ASAP. I haven't seen or heard anything out of place yet, but it's better to be safe than sorry.", he answered.

The merchant's stratum of the floating city was a place that inherently had a feeling of... grossness. It was a place where scoundrels and swindlers went to peddle products made from basically anything the crazed masses would buy, either from misplaced beliefs or inane paranoia. As such, it wasn't strange for one to constantly feel sullied, or tainted in a way, as if they had been dipped into the very bowels of humanity.

But for some reason, that feeling disappeared. In fact, everything felt... oddly tranquil. It was as if they weren't living in their situation, as if the world was normal... for just a moment.

Then suddenly, a man fell onto Nimah. It wasnt as if he dropped from the sky, nor was it hostile—he was a passerby, perhaps a person Nimah had interacted with in her short time interacting with the people of the merchant's stratum, coughing violently. She just happened to be the first thing he saw that he could lean on, unable to get out any words, only able to hawk up thick chunks of blood onto her.

Unceremoniously, Nimah raised a scrawny arm and pushed. Hard. Allowing the man to fall onto the ground below. She brushed away the blood that had stained her shirt — the lingering smear joining a collection of grease and dirt already adorning her clothing.

"Ugh. Guess I'as finished 'round 'ere anyway. Lead'ta way, baldy." Nimah murmured. Her eyes lingered on the bloody man for a moment, raising an eyebrow.

The man groaned, but not in a way one could consider normal. It was more like a... growl, or a bestial exhale, or perhaps a mix of mortal and demonic sounds that created an unpleasant, grating ring. The passerby groaned in his shabby clothes, his face hidden, yet something seemed to be dripping from his mouth that no longer resembled blood.

Taiga's eyes widened in shock not only due to the man's condition but also because he recognized him.

"S-Steve?!? What the hell?!?", he reached out a hand to him but before he could get hold of him...

"What are you saying? We can't just leave him here!", the tiger said as he crouched down next to the man.

"Steve? Can you talk? What happened?", he urgently asked.

Taiga recoiled. He didn't know what it was but that liquid coming out of his lips looked and smelled like bad news.

"Everyone! Stay away! Keep your distance!", he shouted.

"Steve?" Nimah said dryly. Idly, she glanced around before leaning back against the storage building, gloved hands returning to her jingling pocket. "Saw 'em walkin' bout the marketplace earlier - fit as a fiddle too. Ya think it's poison?"

"Further than that-- this one is affecting his soul. And before you ask... no, I can't cure this." Arkhan's voice sounded, a little distant, but that was because she was pretty high up, looking down at the scene.

"Soldier, tell Watcher it's an emergency, and he should find the girl and keep her safe. If he's already with her-- good. I'd rather keep the ticket to food and water alive and well. As for you Nimah, I want you to scan our perimeter, if things look dicey, group up with a Dogma user combat-capable or Watcher immediately, no used getting yourself killed for a cause you barely believe in." Arkhan gave smooth orders before she floated down, two Tomb Guard materializing at her flank, a self-defense measure...

"How did I not see this coming? Of course some kind of accursed plague would spawn the instant I find an area I may be able to settle down for a bit, tetanus-infested or not!" Arkhan cursed in her own head

"Smells like it. Doesn't seem like it came from a Daemon though, not any we have encountered at least. He must have been exposed to it earlier today.", Taiga muttered while checking the man's pulse.

"Don't think I have to tell him. He's watching right now.", Taiga replied while making a few hand signs to the eyes on his bag just in case. The Witness saw and understood the message.

"Alright. Something bad is happening and someone might die. Just another day. Come, we need to regroup immediately.", he calmly said as he took Aurum's hand.
Akarui somehow was.... there too. (Idk, I haven't posted in a while)
"Oh, hey. Here to pick us up?"
(She should be with Taiga and Nimah right now but you can decide. She could have heard what Arkhan said and tracked down where Aurum was like really quickly)

"Sure, whatever. Lemme know if Steve has anythin' good on 'em when he crokes." Nimah drawled. She turned around, giving the group a lazy wave before jumping onto a nearby wall, latching onto its side. With all the ease of an insect, she scampered up the surface, pulling herself onto the roof before jumping to another structure nearby, her eyes scanning the horizon.

Steve continued to grumble and gargle, the blood dripping from his body starting to turn into some... putrid black liquid. His groans turned into growls... then back into groans... then into... laughs. His bones audibly creaked and cracked as he slowly rose from the ground, limply swaying as if he didn't have control of his own body.

"Uuuurrrrgghhaaaahahhaaaaa... aaa... fuuuu... hnnn... haaaa..." He cracked his neck, as if uncomfortable, before speaking once again, his words coming out disconnected and broken, as if he was figuring out how to use his own tongue.

"Woooo... yikes. Sorry about that people, just trying to... get used to... this..."

"Truly, living inside of a Daemon has unforseen consequences..." Arkhan muttered out loud to herself while she carefully moved about, getting to a decent point to watch while her skeletons watched everything she wasn't that was in sight

"You're getting pretty close to 'Steve', don't know if that's advised, even for a dogma user."
"Alright. Something bad is happening and someone might die. Just another day. Come, we need to regroup immediately.", he calmly said as he took Aurum's hand.
"Alright..." Aurum said, a little disheartened, letting herself be moved around and whatnot, since this was standard procedure it didn't completely freak her out, but it still did stress her beyond what was normal.

"Get used to what? Steve? You okay bud?", Taiga asked while pretending like everything was perfectly normal to avoid provoking him.

"Eh, don't worry. I'm tough. Besides, someone has gotta find out what's going on with him.", he responded.

"Just gimme a sec... gotta... urgh..."

Steve grumbled and groaned for a few more long, painful seconds... And then, his head snapped back. It sounded like his neck had been broken in half, and in another agonizingly lengthy instant of time, he pulled his head back into position. He sighed in relief, as if some weight had been lifted off of him, his face still obscured.

"There we go. That's much better. This body is... defective, but it will do fine."

"Okay okay. So you're not Steve. Not anymore... Then who or what are you?", the tiger asked as he slowly got up from the ground and backed away from the body.

"Ah. Right. Steeeeve. That was this guy's name." Said Not Steve, shuffling in the dirty rags the body was wearing, before avoiding the question... or maybe "he" just didn't quite register it. "Honestly, for beings so small, you'd expect humans to wear things that were more... I dunno, comfortable? You've so little surface area, you know."

"Give us a reason to not kill you. Make it a good one..." Arkhan said, shifting back with a Tomb Guard getting in front of her to deal with any surprise attacks

"Kill? Kill who? Me? That'd be funny if you did." Said Not Steve, before pulling down the hood of dirty fabric and gory black fluids covering his face. That was... evidently not how he looked. At least, it couldn't have been how he normally looked. He looked too put-together—his skin, almost glowing with life and white lik snow. His hair blue like the sky they had forgotten, or had never even seen. His right eye was completely pitch black, various black growths extending from it, like varicose veins.

"Wouldn't really do much, cuz if you did, I'd just, you know, find a new body, then you'd kill that one, I'd find a new body, rinse and repeat, until everyone here is dead but you and your friends. So, either we can do that, ooooorrrrrr I explain what's about to happen."

"D-do you think it's an utburd...? Or maybe Draugen?" Of course Aurum would think it's a ghost from her homeland...

"Then speak. Tell us everything."

"I was planning to! Don't worry. Hmmm... it seems like some of your friends aren't here, though. No matter! I'll just... ahem..."

Not Steve coughed a little bit, before speaking. His voice was loud, booming, so utterly all-encompassing so as to encompass the entire Daemon's stomach lining.

"Being blunt, I am the... as you humans call me, 'Daemon Centipede' in which you have chosen to take refuge."

"I have taken the body of a human resident of this place by manually inserting my biomass into your food supply, knowing your annoying skills you humans call Dogma would warn you of any direct attacks on my part as a... Daemon attack."

"In case you didn't understand, or simply didn't know, I will explain: I am not a mindless beast. I am very aware. I am very conscious, and very much have thoughts and feelings of my own! Crazy, right? But you know what's crazier? The fact that the things I swallowed are like... alive! So crazy, right? You weren't supposed to be alive, but you are, nailing things into my stomach, harvesting resources from me... so crazy!"

Not Steve coughed again.

"Sorry about that folks. Anyways, it took a few centuries for me to gain intelligent thought. A few centuries of you guys in my body, walking around, falling into my acid, giving me your biomass and junk. But enough of that! Here's the thing... You're not supposed to be here. Not alive, at least. That's unnatural. Isn't it? It is, trust me."

"So, in the next... 24 or so human hours, I will be taking actions to eliminate you. That's all!"

Not Steve coughed again. His voice returned to normal.

"There we go! That explain everything concisely? I'm still getting down the 'EXPLANATION' part of your human speech."

"D-do you think it's an utburd...? Or maybe Draugen?" Of course Aurum would think it's a ghost from her homeland...
"What are those?", Taiga asked upon seeing Aurum arrive to the scene.

"Nordic mythological creatures. Whatever it is, Eye doubt it has any good intentions.", the Witness whispered.

"Eye assume you're not going to let us leave even though we're barely worth any nutrients? Why waste so much energy just to kill some harmless parasites?", the masked man questioned.

"Okay, that was fun and all, but oh my Machine." Said Not Steve, before starting to laugh. He laughed and laughed and laughed, before sighing and wiping his normal eye.

"Can't believe you actually fell for that. A Daemon Centipede gaining sentience and giving you an ultimatum? That would be... pffft, yikes, that was funny. Aahhhh... I'm so awesome."

"Wouldn't be the craziest thing we have seen. Sentient Daemons do exist after all.", Taiga sighed.

"So, are you gonna tell us the truth now or do we have to make you?", the Watcher asked. An eye appeared on one of his hands, reading the creature's thoughts to make sure it wasn't going to lie again.

"Yes, yes, yes. Of course. F*cking with you people is just too good." Not Steve chuckled one more time, before doing a courteous bow.

"I am a Dogma User who calls himself Ensepheros. You may refer to me as... doesn't matter, actually! Don't actually call me that, but, you know what I mean." He said, "As you can see, my Dogma allows me to take over people's bodies when certain conditions are fulfilled. Among... other things."

"To be fair, I've seen much weirder across the centuries, so it wouldn't surprise me that a Daemon Centipede could actually gain sentience... considering I've seen sentient Daemons before."

Aurum just stared with those golden eyes, having shifted slightly behind the Witness for safety

"We didn't ask for your life story, 'that', What is your purpose for this? I don't treat those who affect the soul kindly, so you're already on the wrong foot..."

"Don't really care what you asked for, whoever you are. Really, the only reason I'm here is because I happened to bump into you while trying to gain control of this body..." That murmured, "As for why I'm here? Well, you'll figure it out probably soon. Probably whenever a few people reach their devices and make a response to my words. Trust me, when I get those beautiful black words on the screen, blessing my eyes... havoc will ensue."

"This place will be sinking then, oh, whatever will we do." Arkhan rolled her eyes, barely even annoyed, mostly just disappointed as Aurum was barely visible by this point behind Witness' outfit

"What do you mean?", the tiger looked at him in confusion. Meanwhile, the Witness just chuckled.

"Oh, but what if those people are too busy with their lives to participate in this conversation or pay you any attention? What are you gonna do about that?", he asked knowingly.

"Then, I suppose we'll just be suspended here in perpetual experience, never truly moving forward or backwards, waiting for the God's beyond our comprehension that give us the right to exist to allow us to move onward!"

"So can we leave 'ere then? Whatever this...Steve fella's got plannin' ain't got anythin' ta'do with us." Nimah said idly. She perched on one of the nearby rooftops, taking a break from scanning the surrounding area to glance down at the group.

"It's unfair how someone with that kind of mindset has managed to survive for so long.", he shook his head. "Well, you wanna tell us how you got here and why you're snatching bodies?"

This of course made the girl who's name was literally Gold Silver squeak in surprise
