One Piece Chapter 1028: Brachiosnakeus (Official Release)

Semantics, but yeah "He kept challenging people until he no longer had any worthy foes" in reference to Shanks and the paragraph literally ended with "He's looking forward to the day he meets a sword-master that surpasses his rival Shanks"
Isn't it the other way around and Shanks was the one who challenged Mihawk, who was already basically established as the strongest swordsman?

What in the semantics?
That just reads like a poorly done retcon of Whitebeard's position with respect to Kaido. When we literally have some of the most knowledgeable people in the verse (like Sengoku) call him "the strongest Man in the world" referring to him joining the fight

"Strongest" doesn't necessarily mean AP unless mainly pointed to.

WB was never portrayed to have the highest battle power.

His devil fruit isn't even the strongest.
He has like 15 people around his level.

Nah

No direct reference to Shanks. Do you have any statement that says something like "Mihawk is the greatest swordsman even including someone like Shanks" ?
Wow, even for me that's a bad argument. If he is the strongest swordsman, he is the strongest swordsman, it doesn't have to include someone specific.
Au contrare, if Shanks were to be an expection to that title, then it should be noted somehow.

I agree about that Mihawk is heavily implied to be more powerful than current Shanks.

The only strongest statements I take as AP are

1. CP9 Doriki scaling and Rob Lucci's "strongest member of CP9"
2. Akainu's "Magu2 boasts the highest offensive power of all devil fruits"
3. Oden's "strongest swordsmanship"
4. Denjiro's "greatest swordsmanship among the scabbards"
5. Katakuri's strongest of BM pirates after BM
6. Mihawk's name and actuality

Whitebeard's isn't... strength

Speaking of Denjiro, who do you think that he will end up fighting during the ongoing conflict?

Good question. I haven't really thought of Denjiro that much in the raid.

He might assist Hiyori against Orochi, seeing as he posed as his soldier for 20 years.

But other than that? Everybody's already occupied.

I think you are arbitrarily taking 3 and 6 as factual when they are actually rather vague statements. Why is Sengoku saying "the strongest Man in the world is about to go on a rampage" as Whitebeard rushes the marines any less factual?

Who says it's less factual?

It's not AP.

"Strongest" doesn't need to mean AP.

CP0 makes more sense.
Big Mom is out of reach for an injured Denjiro.
If he has properly recovered, he may be able to help. He managed to match Zoro after all, so I think that he is stronger than Jack and possibly comparable to Queen.

The Ace novel elaborated further on that (thanks to reliable sources aka statements from whitebeard's pirates). As we know, Shanks was never stated to be the strongest swordsman. However, there are good reasons why that is the case, first off, many pirates (including the shishibukai), marine soldiers (even the Admirals), even the whitebeard pirates knew about the several duels between Shanks and Mihawk, so that means there has to be a winner, right? (that's where Shanks got his reputation from), yet people still believe that Mihawk is the world strongest swordsman? If Mihawk were to lose to Shanks wouldn't literally everyone refer to Shanks as the world strongest swordsman instead of mihawk? you see that makes no sense if Shanks were the world strongest swordsman unless you can prove that Shanks is the "strongest swordsman" despite literally everyone from One piece say otherwise, even Hancock and Doffy (who hyped up him btw).

He scales above the other scabbards who fought Jack, so via scaling he's superior to Jack.
Queen is a different debate though.

3 states this
What he himself called the (strongest) sword style was not a boast, it was the only one that deeply wounded Kaido!
6 states this
"He Rules atop the throne of the World's Strongest"
"He was world famous even before the great pirate era"
"Even now he reigns supreme as the world's strongest in name and actuality, an exceptional master swordsman"
"For Years he trained relentlessly for many years challenging more and more powerful foes, until he had no more worthy foes, he then joined the Seven Warlords"
"Although Hawk-Eyes strikes fear into all those who follow the way of the sword, he looks forward to the future, the day when he will meet a swordmaster that surpasses his rival Red-Hair"

Why does "strongest swordsman" refer to AP then?
Because for swordsmanship in One Piece, especially the forms that Mihawk practice (strong and soft blade swordsmanship), the strength of a swordsman is in his AP.

Zoro trains his swordsmanship by lifting weights.
Kaku's swordsmanship revolves in swinging hard enough to make wind blades.
Mihawk's first serious portrayal was an air slash.

Mihawk doesn't have a "swordsman lifestyle" like WB and his pirate life. He goes around and cuts ships.

He's all AP.

Speaking of Katakuri, the fact that he isn't Yonko level while literally every other top Yonko commander is makes me big sad.

Well there are ways to go around it, e.g. not scaling tobi roppo above G3 luffy
Not that part

I mean the amount of people this affects.

This scales to the Tobiroppo regardless cause of Sanji cracking Oven's neck and bruising him with a single kick.

Any Charlotte Sibling scaling is... heavy.

Any AP feats scale to sweet commanders.
Any Dura feats scale to Oven.

Well more grease to your elbow, I will be here when the chaos starts🙃🙃

I foresee horrible kinds of scaling chains like:

Kaido ~ Nekomamushi ~ Perospero < Oven

Hoping this doesn't happen in the future.
I pray not

No scabbards scale to Kaido durability wise. Most of them get one shot and we don't see them use Haki on their bodies most of the time, so scaling any feats they have with Busoshoku to their regular stats is... unwise

Excluding his Zoan form, wasn't Kaido taking the Scabbards out with unnamed attacks? It's been a while, but I recall them getting mostly off screened and Kinemon/Denjiro getting tapped out through unnamed attacks. They shouldn't even scale near Kaido's durability, just have (possibly) 6-B AP via Ryuou, or just flat out durability negation. Which is how they injured him (temporarily) in the first place.

Zoro challenges Mihawk to a swordsman's duel despite the clear AP gap

Mihawk engages purely in terms of skill and proceeds to demonstrate the gaps in his technique
