Dragon Ball Super Discussion Thread 100

It actually depends on the media, since in some cases she gets called Bulma Briefs, in one of the english dubs Trunks got called Trunks Briefs and I think in GT he also got called Mr.Briefs.

Just so everyone knows, no true dragon ball fan knew Krillin didn’t have a nose. Nobody. Not until that article was released.

He's called Mr. Brief because that's his name. Dubs aren't canon, so those are irrelevant. Only actual media that calls her Bulma Briefs is Dragonball Evolution, which is a huge no.

If Bulma’s surname was Briefs, then her name would be Briefs Bulma to follow Japanese naming conventions.

That's incorrect. Bulma's name is written in kana, so it would be Bulma Brief if that were her surname, since the "surname first" rule only applies to names written in kanji, like Goku.

I do not have proof, however I heard about it from a friend so I went with it, although I could be heavily incorrect and none of them get called that.

Anyhow, I do find it interesting that the Son family keeps their surname, something Videl noted to Gohan was odd, which makes me question why no one else has surnames. Like, going by this, it looks it was something done in the past that was dropped for some reason, so I'm intrigued on what lead to such development in their society.

Could be something that was done in a particular area and they stopped it after being in contact with the rest of the world for a while. Or it kinda faded away after Piccolo almost destoyed humanity the first time.

Or it's just something they only do in certain part of the world and it's just rare for someone to have a last name in most place of the world.

It's not like every civilisation IRL used family names either.

In case y'all are interested, this is a sketch of an unused version of Janemba who's been possessed by Baby and brainwashed by Towa and Babidi drawn by Toyotaro

Yeah.
Also I'm gonna assume that this week is gonna be when we start getting raw scans of DBS Chapter 67 so what do y'all think is going to happen at the end of this arc?

End of Z won't be happening until like, the end of Super, and we have like two more years left before reaching that, so I doubt that's coming any time soon.

Why is it that most of the time, it's the non canon parts of DB that have better feats then the canon parts?
usually non-canon stuff is other timelines, meaning the characters can have different strengths (broly from older movies was stated to be a threat to the entire northern quadrant, and then stated to be a threat to the universe in LSSJ I think)

I think is because being non-canon means the writters can go balls in the walls and make a massive threat wihout conflicting with the plot since, well who cares if 7/10 of all galaxies got destroyed if this is an alternate timeline?

Also they don't need to follow the feats timeline in dbz, which they are aware of, so they don't think "this villain came before cell, who's max power was going to destroy the solar system, maybe i should make him nuke a star instead"

Look at the old broly movie, he nuked a galaxy overtime, but he was weaker than cell who was going to destroy just the solar system, he even states it in the anime, why did they make a weaker villain a billion times more impressive? Because they don't need to care about "power progress" that much since this won't be inside the main timeline.

Speed feats have less of a excuse since idk if they care about the levels instead of the scaling and they are just "he went from X to Y" and then the fans find the timeframe.

Look at the goku afterlife feat, they litwrally just made goku go kick some bad guys ass and just because he didn't take a million years, he ended up gaining one of the best speed feats in the franchise.

The janemba stuff was done via magic so i think they cared even less since they didn't treat it as sheer power, then they made goku shake everything lmao, although MAYBE they intention weren't for the whole universe to be shaken, somehow.

The games are even worse because they can create their own timelines and do whatever, even introducing new concepts just to make them even stronger, like heroes/senoverse throwing a big ass multiverse there

Speaking of the movies one of the main writers of the Dragon Ball movies, Takao Koyama, stated in a few interviews that no one in the anime is stronger then Z Broly and that he is the most powerful villain in the movies aside from Beerus.
What do you all think of this? I personally think that when you compare who Broly fought in comparison to proceeding villains he'd be weaker then Janemba and Hirudegarn
