Gonna say Yujiro:

He's a superior martial artist who knows all kinds of moves for incacitating opponents and can easily overwhelm Shantae up close.

Yes, Shantae has been trained in Martial arts, but she barely uses them and is more reliant on her hair/hair whips making her fighting style up close rather predictable. Plus there's nothing to suggest that her martial arts prowess even compares to the martial arts masters that Yajiro has personally defeated.

Not helping is the Yujiro is much more experienced and way more analytical with his knowledge of the human body/weak spots will most likely allow him to damage Shantae at a quicker rate. Shantae may be a half genie, but there's nothing to suggest that her body's anatomy is different from a human's aside from her use of her hair.

Shantae has her transformations, but Yajiro faces beasts/large animals frequently and can easily beat them down or figure out ways around them and likely thanks to his analytical nature can figure them out easily.

Not helping is Shantae needing to stand and dance to initiate any of her transformations of healing abilities; which briefly leaves her open. Yajiro would no doubt take advantage of that and constantly interupt her dances.

Only reason he'd let her finish her dances is if he figured her other forms could give him a good fight, but that's it.

Be more specific; what magic can she use in an up close fist fight/confrontation?

Her magical items? Because it was stated that Shantae doesn't go in with Equipment in this fight, so things like the fireballs, pike balls, puff clouds, barriers, and other such things are excluded because those are Equipment/items/weapons.

What magic can Shantae use up close? Her hair strikes ARE magic in nature, but their magic is only affective against super natural beings and is responsible for it's striking power. What's to stop Yajiro from taking her hair and ripping it off? Shantae's hair can be cut off by regular scissors, so it's more than likely Yajiro could tea/rip off her ponytail if it became a nuisance.

So aside from hair whips and martial arts; what magical attacks does Shantae have that she can specifically use up close?

Her magical attack "Obliterate" requires her to dance in place first before she can use it. Not only could Yujiro beat up Shantae while she's dancing and interrupt her before she could do it, but there's no evidence that "Obliterate" would one shot/kill Yujiro since in game, it only takes down weaker foes, but ones with higher HP are barely scratched or in the very least lose a lot less health.

Yujiro is FAR more powerful than a generic tinkerbat, so he'd no doubt be able to survive it and keep attacking. Not only that, but "Obliterate" significantly leaves Shantae's magic drained/weakened so she wouldn't be able to heal herself or make use of it again.

Shantae can't authomaticcly refill her "Magic Meter" with out equipment, and it's been stated that she's not going in with Equipment in this fight.

So I'll ask one more time:

What magical abilities can Shantae use in an up close confrontation that DOES NOT come from her magic items? What offensive magic does she have for up close confrontations that are not her hair strikes or her "Obliterate" dance?

Storm Puff Fire Ball, the bubble and all thier upgrades are not items, and her hair is not magic since she can still do it in Pirate's Curse when literally all her magic was taken out of her. They even rely on her magic meter and are bought just like the obliterate spell.


Besides she doesnt need to stay up close.

But she still needs to buy those abilities in order to use them to begin with, other wise she can't use them period. In several games, she has to buy them from the shops or else she can never use them in the games period, and let's not forget that they even started off as items with limited use in the first game before they were changed in later installments.

So far I've seen no evidence that she can use pike balls, fireballs, puff clouds, or barriers with out purchasing them from a store first.

and Shantae's hair strikes DO involve magic; She naturally has light magic due to being a half genie, and her hair strikes are imbedded with light magic which explains why they're handy against those who use dark magic and how they can dispense spritual creatures such as ghosts or the undead.

Yes, she can use her hair strikes with her genie magic drained, but keep in mind that since she's gotten her genie powers back it's safe to say that her genie magic makes her hair strikes magic based as well.

and yes, Shantae DOESN'T have to stay up close, but once Shantae backs away do you really think Yujiro isn't going to close the gap and just keep getting in her face? If she tries to run away or take her distance, he's going to just keep chasing her down or closing the gap since Yujiro himself isn't a distance fighter; not to mention he's experienced with fighting loads of gunmen so he knows that closing the distance to end a fight as quickly as possible is necessary against such opponents.

He can literally just keep rushing her down and wailing on her up close when ever she tries to get away.
 
SO...she BUYS obliterate too. its game mechanicss dude, they are not consumable items or taken from some source, she uses them from her OWN magic.


and who cares about what they were in earlier games, CURRENTLY they are magic abilities that she'd logically be able to use at any time, and cant cause otherwise it would BREAK early game stuff.

Hey OP: Do you consider Fireballs, Pikeballs, Puff Clouds, and Barriers to be equipment, or do you consider them to be magic that Shantae can freely use at any point in time?

Reason I ask is because in the games, Shantae needs to consistantly buy these items from a store before she can even use them and purchase upgrades for them before she can use them to their full power. This is common through out the entire franchise as a whole.

But people seem to be insisting that those magic items are actually abilities Shantae naturally has.

So do the above mentioned items count as equipment, or do you consider them some of her default magic abilities?

Reason I ask is because those would definately affect the results/verdict.

its literally game mechanics, otherwise you' break the games way too quickly if you had them right from the start, for god sakes she has a complete invinicbility spell Of course its gonna be available right from the start. and how ELSE in her games would you get them? its not an rpg she doesnt learn them, so the nly thing in game is to make them have to be bought to keep dificulty from being utterly brokwn the moment t the game begins.
 
and NO SHantae's hair strikes are explictly NOT magic as in Pirate's Curse she can still do it an its even explained in game by the characters why she can still do it despite losing all her magic at the end of Risky's Revenge.

Yes, her hair strikes don't require genie magic to be performed, but her strikes can still be infused with light magic from her genie powers to make them effective on certain enemi types.

With out her genie magic she can still do her hair strikes, but while she's not seperated from her genie half then her hair strikes contain light magic.

It's like being able to punch, but also having the option to charge that punch with magic or an element such as fire to make it useful against a certain enemy. Even with out magic or an element, you can still punch enemies and deal damage. The magic/elemental power is just a bonus that adds a little more to it.

If you insist that magic items don't count as equipment and are naturally being used, fine.

In that case, I'll re-evaluate my verdict on this decision since you're the one calling the shots on the condition of this fight.

Since Shantae is allowed to go in with those items, then she stands a MUCH better advantage:

Fire gives her range and can help her keep Yujiro away

Pike Balls and their upgraded counter parts "Schimitars" would also help keep Yajiro away and deal damage if he gets too close

Pikeballs and their updates forms can give Shantae more range and allow her to set up traps or just attack Yujiro from a distance

And while barriers are only good for projectiles and not close range enemies/attacks, invincible would be powerful enough to protect Shantae from Yajiro being able to damage her while she's performing dances, thus she can do them uninterrupted.

Yujiro meanwhile still excels in close range combat as well as intelligence/strategy, so it's very possible that he can figure out ways to counter Shantae's abilities. In close quarters, he no doubt is able to over whelm her and she'd need to play keep away in order to take him on.

At the same time, Shantae's arsenal of magic and abilities are very diverse, enough so that she's less predictable. Not to mention Yujiro has such a big ego and is so curious about what his opponents can do he might allow Shantae to use some of her abilities so he can either experience them or try to figure them out/counter them.

In this scenario, I say Shantae wins if she's able to use/conserve her magic wisely and keep her distance long enough while also wearing down Yujiro fast enough so he doesn't figure out everything she can do and figure out ways to counter it.
 
I dont even see thm as items, it was just the game's way of barring you from the best magic shit striaght from the get go.

Yujiro isn't completely powerless from range. You guys must remember that this dude has copied Xiao Lee, which basically allows him to become immune to damage that would otherwise affect him. Hell, Kaku, who's around the same tier as the average high-tier in Baki normally (Which is waaaaay lower than Yujiro's power), can practically ignore Yujiro's full-powered moves using Xiao Lee. Using that, he can surely tank most of the things Shantae throws at her.

To bypass any resistance-increasing abilities, Xiao Lee also does the trick. It can also allow the user to hurt people they'd be otherwise unable to. Base!Kaku wasn't doing anything to Yujiro with normal strikes. Once he started to use Xiao Lee, he managed to actually hurt him. Not only that, but through Benda or pressure points Yujiro should be able to cause severe internal damage or agonizing pain. Without knowledge about each other, I highly doubt Shantae would be backtracking continuously while bombarding Yujiro.
